I was in the 3rd grade('74) when I first heard this song. Needless to say, it changed my life and I never looked back. I'll been listening to heavy metal the rest of my days! It's true that todays bands cannot compare with this stuff!!!!!!
Love the new wave of British heavy metal. People had so much more skill then than they do now. now theres all this crap where people do nothing but scream random crap into a microphone, and get famous for it. People like Gillan had awesome heavy metal voices, and didnt bother screaming, because they didnt need it. and the instrumental players are so much better, because they can do more than play fast.
There might be. I just haven't found any I like yet. Possibly because the only friends I have that listen to modern metal listen to bands I hate. (Slipknot comes to mind.)
Plus, my whole outlook on music changes so much over time, I'm amazed at the stuff I say 8 months ago. Like calling Deep purple a heavy metal band. They were a huge influence to heavy metal, and had many aspects of heavy metal, but they weren't a metal band.
@videogamer1805 You might not see it on MTV, but a lot of new bands are making melodic metal with proper vocals that isn't all about anger and shouting a lot. DP and Led Zep, Rainbow, Black Sabbath and such weren't as much Metal since it wasn't invented yet. It's sort of...pre-metal ;).
@videogamer1805 NWOBHM was the metal movement of the early 80's - with Iron maiden and the likes.
Deep Purple was the Old Wave - The Really Old Wave. And they were hardly Metal. More like Hard Baroque Blues-Rock with very skilled instrumentalists. Proto-Metal if you like.
@CentraCross Type it out, your the only one that knows what the hell NWOBHM is supposed to mean. Hard baroque? why is it metal heads feel the need to seperate bands they like or do not by making sub genre that involve 4 names?
@bobfrapples37 Their music is essentialy a form of very technical and heavy blues-rock with classical influences. It was pioneering for Trad Metal and could possibly be considered such, but It's debatable.
@bobfrapples37 Yeah, that's why Google has 2.7 million hits on it. And it's "you're" and "separate". And you want the plural of "subgenre", which usually isn't two words.
@danmickla So, that one forum user online can't spell 'environment' correctly, and it bugs you. Then that lady on your game server regularly confuses the word "their" with "they're", and that bugs you, too. Should you take it upon yourself to gently correct them? Well, actually, the answer is no. For the most part, it is bad form to correct people's spelling in online forums and chats. Part of Internet Etiquette, or 'Netiquette', is to generally ignore people's spelling and typos.
@danmickla "CentraCross 3 months ago" Who his stalking who. You had nothing to say excpet to correct my spelling. Name calling real mature. I am not engaging in a flame war with you on youtube.
@danmickla Although and though are words. Cute, troll correcting my spelling and not taken the time to finish spelling the word. At least I made an attempt. When I eMail a resume I check the spelling and grammar. When I comment on a deep purple video I do not. Thanks for taking the time to point that out. I found your comment to be insightful and pointed. I will send you all my comments to be proof read next time. Thank you for contributing.
@bobfrapples37: I stand corrected. "Tho" as a short slang for "though" is clearly completely equivalent to completely confusing parts of speech or misspelling words completely rather than shortening and slang-izing. No surprise that you'd feel that way, given that you're the sort of asshead that feels required to comment on a well-known initialism like NWOBHM without even bothering to look at Google for the *2.7 million hits* it shows.
@danmickla In that case your is "internet slang" for you are as in you are looking for a fight and you are acting like a immature child. In my opinion acronyms longer than 3-5 letters are only. Do you enjoy picking fights and opening up 3 moth old conversations. We have slang for that too it's called a troll
@bobfrapples37 Again, nice try, but "your" is a sign of your jaw-dropping ignorance and lack of care. And "your opinion" about initialisms (it's not an acronym; wrong again) is relevant how?
As for 3-"month" (not moth, wrong yet again) old conversations: yours was the top comment when I came to look at this video. Is it somehow less stupid and wrong because it's old? Is this cheese, where mold is to be expected on old comments?
@danmickla If I did google it I would find led zepplin and others mentioned in the wiki for heavy metal. Thank you for your input. If you continue to comment with cursing and name calling I will report you. Good day sir.
@bobfrapples37 So what is your point that you would find Led Zeppelin (again, that's the way you spell it...are you even a fan of metal? You don't even know what the band's name is? Seriously?)
@bobfrapples37 And I'm amused that you haven't even responded to the substance of my request. Talk about trivialities. You jumped all over that guy for not "typing out" NWOBHM, saying "you're the only one that knows what it means", when *everyone* else but you knew, *and* ranted about subgenre classification. Little tiny limp ego much? No, not you.
@danmickla I'll tell you what I didn't do. I didn't insult him. I didn't call him names. I didn't insult him. I didn't infer he is inferior. I perfer not to google every question I have. I ask people. I found this on google "profanity is the feeble attempt of a weak mind to express itsself forcefully" Thank you for contributing to the shallow and hostile comments on youtube. Your a ray of sunshine! I guess the only thing I could say you might understand is "You Mad ?" Why are you angry?
@bobfrapples37 I didn't insult you or call you names either, until you insisted on acting like a whiny little bitch and trying to defend your indefensible stupidity. And yes of course you implied (that's the word you meant, by the way, not infer) that he was inferior. And about the quote about profanity (which, I'll point out, you *still* can't spell correctly, even when in the middle of a thread about it): Fuck you.
"You're" a ray of sunshine as well (again, that's the word you wanted. You're batting 1.000 here). And I'm angry because you started out playing the helpless fool who couldn't possibly understand a common term all the rest of us do, or be bothered to wipe your own ass by Googling it.
@CentraCross Heavy metal is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the Midlands of the United Kingdom and the United States. With roots in blues rock and psychedelic rock, the bands that created heavy metal developed a thick, massive sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness. Heavy metal lyrics and performance styles are generally associated with masculinity and machismo.
If you like Deep Purple then check out the nearest thing to the originals "PURE PURPLE" tribute band, there fantatic to see,a good nights entertainment.Keep on rockin
I have met the band once (except Ritchie)and ian twice and he is the best singer and the most humble down to Earth man you'll ever meet; so are the rest of the boys. I first saw him with Black sabbath at the Nassau Coliseum and wasnt really interested in going but the minute I heard him sing I said to my ex-husband "I never want to sing Stevie Nicks again!" and all our originals took on a whole new sound. Ian is the man!!!!!!!!
Deep Purple and Heavy Metal in general, were the key to developing a style heavy on the jamBlackmore in Smoke on the Water, Highway Star's entry and the screams of acute Gill. This has been instrumental in the heavy in later years, listen to Gillan in Made In Japan there is no voice that he looks far better
