  • Yes it's a manual Wah Pedal.

  • Pete, On your WAH sound, you manually rock WAH pedal back and forth,

should I do one cycle (forward and back) on each of one note? I have used some WAH before that change characteristics by Amplitude of sound.

  • I'm using a preset called Purple (I guess inspired by purple rain) I am using the wah wah pedal manually on the pod. I'm not using any other outboard effects.

So Violin plugged into POD into Macbook via USB.

  • What settings do you have on the line 6 to make it sound 'buzzy' like that? Are there any other devices connected to the line 6 like a wah or flanger? I think I hear some of that in there.

    Thank you.

  • wow I wonder what it would sound like through a marshall!!!

  • This sounds like Lethean Tears from Solution 45 lol :D

  • u are playing a guitar indeed!

  • Pete, love love love .... we need to chat about the wedding music, Eeek Very excited

  • Gawd! Man I just LOVE that! The tone and the articulation is mesmerizing, haunting. I have loved the electrified violin ever since I first heard Mahavishnu Orchestra, 1974. Luc Ponty and Jerry Goodman rule! Your playing is very good, though I do think you could do better. Thank you for the lovely music and talent! Awesome.

  • it sounds like a guitar :D great!

  • Very nice squared-wave like sound in those sustained notes. However, due to the high harmonic content in the attacking, the attack notes sound a bit harsh and sometimes a lil bit unpleasant. Nevertheless, thumbs up. What X3 amp model did you use for that sound? any X3 model stomb box ?

  • damn, some of those phrases sounded AMAZING! great job!

  • sorry I'm not selling, unless you offer me a crazy price!

if you Google violectra you will see were to purchase one

  • Excellent stuff Pete

  • Thanks !!

  • I'm curious with electric violins are they 4 or six stringed? Also can you distort them to sound like an electric guitar? Please explain. Great work! Keep it up! I have a request can you play any video game music on your electric violin? I'd like to hear a medley of some stuff from Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Dragon Age Origins and Final FAntasy.

  • there are 4, 5, 6, 7, and I believe 8 string electric violins I have heard rumours of a 9 string.

I distorted the violin using the pod on a setting called purple (I guess from purple rain)

If you would like to produce me the track and dots for the medley I would be very happy to have a go.

    Pete

  • I see I'm sorry to inform you that I can't produce the track and dots for the melody. Might I suggest looking online? It might be easier that way.

  • If I come across them I'll have a go.

    Cheers

    Pete

  • All this time guitarists try to make their guitars sound like a violin and you go and try and make a violin sound like a guitar. I'm so confused, nice though, you sound pretty cool.

  • nice very "floyd-ish"

  • great playing.loved how you play, and the music in eclips.keep up the good work.

  • That's great!! I like the way you play and how it sounds, keep up the good work!

  • jaja nice!

  • Cool:)

  • what kind of violin is that and whats its price?

  • nice job, thanks for posting

  • Hi Pluto

I keep all the strings tuned in 5ths, the highest 4 (in pitch) are the normal violin strings so going downwards E, A, D, G, then 2 deeper strings viola C, and low F (so a 4th above a cello C), I used to have a 7 string that went to a low Bb.

These days I use Helecore strings for the top 4 and super sensitive for the F and C.

    Pete

  • how is that violin tuned and what strings do you have on it, thats amazing

  • You should be getting more out of a fretless instrument... Do the slides that you couldn't do on a guitar... The fretless let you do sounds that are more onirical and not just pentatonic guitar stuff... With all that said... 5 Stars!

  • Thanks Jeag,

I guess that I was playing what was in my head at the time!

  • Sounds like a god solo but for guitar...Its magical dude!!!

U are a kind of god..

  • holy shit. some creative stuff.

    this IS excellent stuff!

  • I love watching innovators. Right on Pete! Wonderful demo and playing, man!

  • Violin tuning

    E A D G C F(being the deepest string).

    Pete

  • omg 6 strings..wtf...cool

  • Like a real guitar.

  • who cool awsome oh my is it a guitar, piano, drum set , a bass , all roll up in one. so far out. So when does the violinist play?

  • internet is a big pile of poo

    but

pete is a DIAMOND hidden in it

  • I agree! He plays so beautifully...

  • i honestly can't tell if it's the player or the instrument

    but the sound is incredible

i would trade my violin for this =.="

  • your like david gilmour with a violin....gave me the same vibe as that marooned song...love it

  • omg, got talent

  • Wooow... really cool :)

  • What a bloody awesome instrument!

What model is that violin mate?

  • It is a 6 string Violectra made in Birmingham UK by maker Dave Bruce Johnson I ordered the first electric violin he built 22 years ago and this is my 8th!

  • wow......very good....very great sound and skill man.....

    busyet dah....luarbiasa (indonesia language)

  • there is not even a word to describe how good he is lol

  • GREAT! you play the guitar too? i guess.... jeje hi`s from Colombia!

  • simply beautiful man

  • Excellent.

  • WTF!!! THAT IS AWESOME!!!

  • howd u get ur electric to sound like that?

ive never heard an effect like that for electrics before

i want mine to sound similar to that

  • Hi I am just plugging the Violectra straight into the POD X3 LIVE and using a patch called purple. Different violins will have different basic tones, and the other factor is the notes phrases and inflections that you use.

I'm not necessarily thinking about it to much while I am playing.

    Pete

  • ma la gente la smette di usare il violino come una chitarra.

    che disagio

  • Brilliant!

  • i've never heard a violin with effects before

  • yeah it does ring a jordan rudess bell doesnt it!

  • I have never heard Jordan Rudeness, can you recommend any?

    Pete

  • indeed i can, theres a few cool bands he's in, i reccomend 'Liquid Tension Experiment 1 & 2' 'Dream Theatre: metropolis pt II' and every other Dream Theatre album since, try also ' AN Evening With John Petrucci And Jordan Rudess' he is a living legend, best keyboard player in the world bar NONE! :-)

  • Nice improvisation. Good job. Sound is very similar to guitar, but even more to Synth Lead... IMHO too much drive

  • Do anybody listened to Jordan Rudess??

    Is the same =D

  • Great work Pete! What a tone. I just got a Boss GT-10. I need to work on my tones after hearing this beautiful work!

  • 6-string violin? waw! hahaha

  • Omg,, Awesome violin + Awesome piece of music.

    You play very nice.

  • what in the world! wow!

  • This is really sick!! But its so sick that i'm watching it again and again and I can't stop! Can you play more of this? 5 stars my friend! Greetings from Greece!

  • if the violin has bar that likes electric guitar. it will be awesome~ O_O~hah

  • That was sick bro!!!

  • Great, Pete!

  • VERY GOOD! Thats all i can say.....Try and get this professionally recorded and i would buy it. Just the one track!

  • you make the violin kool u rock

  • fucking amazing..... you rock

    great tone!!

    BRAVO!

  • COOL

  • Check out Renae Truex of Cowboy Crush. She's been getting SRV type tones out of a fiddle, Sans Amp and Cry Baby for several years in her bands live shows. Been wanting to try this with a POD 2.3 for years, but life keeps getting in the way, LOL! Sounds great!

No sustain problems with a bowed instrument. :-)

  • nice work man !!!!!

  • enteresting

  • NICE TO THE CORE MAN!
