  • Sou um fã brasileiro de Kansas, música que emociona, tanto pela técnica quanto pela letra!

  • Love the song but kind of sounds like the music for a snes game

  • way ahead of their time

  • great song, I really like the crescendo at 0:35 - 0:41.

  • Un-be-fuckin-lievable. The more I listen to Kansas the more I understand how much better they were than the rest of the bands of the 70's. Technicians, each and every one of them.

  • Doesn't get much better than this.

  • I'm making a Kid Icarus play list for the next time I play that time.

  • Got my tickets to the show in Naples, Florida and I CAN'T WAIT!

    THIS SONG KICKS !!!!!!

  • I Lived this Music ..Masterd Proficiently...Whoever Mixed This Was A Master at his Craft..Kansas has always Rocked..Nuff said "D"....

  • I'll heartily second that. It seems every time they could take a short-cut, keep it simple, instead they launch off in a whole new direction, yet somehow resolve it all perfectly with just the right amount of 'hang time'. Mastery defined.

  • Nothing personal, but I'm very grateful that 1975 is in the past along with this song!

  • Born Again Amen!

  • The album cover reminds me of something that Hieronymus Bosch would have painted.

  • @j4unumber1 I'm NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT THINKS IT!!!!!!

  • Sail on. "Like" is a circus word to convey the true level of this auditory experience. This is it. Hundreds of years from now, Freedom music will find this song to be one of the cornerstones of the era. It is dynamic and expressive. It inspires and creates energy.

  • AWESOME...

  • Perfect song! Kerry's genius shining through again.

  • this song is about Kerry Livgren/s love of flying

  • oh yea they played this song too!

  • seen kansas in 2008 with my pops it was awesome despite no livgren. To see one of my dads fav bands from his youth with him was great

  • @schmadle: I was fortunate enough to see them twice in kansas when I was stationed there in the army, in '73 and '74 before they made it big. Their first album is still my favorite. I lost my wife at a very young age, and Lamplight Symphony still grabs me and won't let go.

  • Simply the best band of all time!

    Best Singer: Steve Walsh

    Best Songwriter: Kerry Livgren.

I had a chance to see Kansas in 1976. It was in Riverside, California. The cost was $4.00. It was a small venue at a city college. I wasn't able to make it. That same year they released 'Leftoverture.' With that, they had a minor hit called 'Carry On Wayward Son'. Well, needless to say, they only played very large venues until the breakup of their original lineup. I have been kicking myself ever since.

  • and the gooesbumps set in a 5:00

  • @skywalk553 On the contrary, the goosebumps set in from 0:00 to 6:04

  • I find it amazing how a song from Greek Mytholigy can be such an awesome, kick ass tune! I've always loved Kansas and this is by far one of their best songs since the beggining!

  • freakin' insanely good song craft, 2 melodies at once, complex polyrythm-genious

  • THANKS for posting this--been looking for it a long, long time. Sounds just as good as I remember.

  • Error in the lyrics.

"I'm here alone, free I can't come down no more"

    should actually be

"I'm here alone, and I, I won't come down no more".

That said, THANK YOU for taking the time to post this awesome memory of my childhood.

  • awesome song

  • awwwwwwww yeah

  • Stefaan for midnight beast was in this band

  • "...When Kansas's Masque album failed to produce a hit single, pressure from Kirshner Records intensified. The band knew that if their next LP did not sell, they would be dropped by the label...." wow, this blows me away. i've always LOVED this album

  • After attending 800+ concerts in my life from ABBA to Zappa and seeing just about everyone in between,it occurred to me that my top 5 shows are bands from the "progressive" rock genre.Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Supertramp, and of course Kansas.I guess thats where the talent truly is.

  • This song is indisputable proof that the '70s produced the best rock of all time.

  • Awsome....This song came out when I was in high school. Takes me back to what I vaguely remember as some sort of smoky haze called the 70's. I remember listening to this song over and over on an old 8 track player. Wish they would play it on the local classic rock stations once in awhile.Instead I've been listening to them shove Led Zepplin down my throat for the last 35 years.

  • EPIC!

  • I still have this album. Man all of Kansas stuff kicks so much ass.

  • I was two years old when this came out, but of course, living in an overtly religious household, I didn't own my first rock record until 1980, and the live version is the one I'm familiar with.

  • this song is incredible---- and i made a video with this song in it.......... and i got a copyright infringement strike against me!

  • Saw this live last night, was utterly unbelievably amazing. SOOOOOO good.

  • @this1neguy i seen it too! this was a good song they did

  • This one doesn't quite stack up next to the live version on Two for the Show. Still love it though!

  • WOW!!! First Kansas song I ever heard. Been hooked ever since.

  • my god 1975 shit i'm old.born on wings of steel..!!

  • Never a truer work spoken. Remember bringing home that album when it was released. Art work was original and music was amazing. One of the best live bands ever. Best concert ever Fleetwood Mac (before pop side) Kansas then Deep Purple.

  • @lordmangoman AGREE 100% Kansas in consert is an awesome experience

I rank their concert up with Yes (Fragile tour) and Supertramp (Crime of the Century tour)

  • Icarus II doesn't do thiis justice

  • The vocals just top it off. they give you goosebumps with the incredible tone and talent this godly band has.

  • i love that i personnaly know them and my dad knows them even better however they will never be the same without my favorite violinist robbie

  • i listened to this before every cross country race

  • this is probably one of the greatest songs EVER. wish I were alive then to see them live at a concert!!!

  • @xooxlinds I was allive then and a teen in the 70's and yep KANSAS was all good in concert...yep, you missed it LOL

  • @xooxlinds u can still see them i'm seeing them twice this year for free! they're playin at harbor fest for free and the NY state fair for free I saw them last year it was the best show i've ever been to I love Kansas!

  • masque is one of the greatest unknown albums/cds of all time...Icarus and All the World are FANTASTIC songs.

  • this tune is quality, reminds me of conan the barbarian, love to be on horsebac with a sword listenin t dis on my ipod lol

  • I had forgotten about this great song. They played it as background music for "locals on the 8's" on The Weather Channel. Funny! Then, I hopped on YouTube to hear it again. WOW!

  • i love this song...im pretty sure i watched this video like 20 times, and there WILL be more times

  • Man! That is so good! This is one of the Kansas albums I didn't have. Too bad for me. LOL

  • oh my god why didn't I discover Kansas earlier in my life, these guys are amazing!

  • 2:17-2:39 - proof yet again why Phil is so right for this band when they jump into the prog.

  • The amazing this is that they still sound brilliant in concert! I heard them with an orchestra on wednesday night, and it was so awesome!

  • Kansas is America's great contribution to Progressive Rock. Simply AWESOME!!

    Stellar musicianship and chops!

  • i love the way they sing =]

    its amazing!!

  • If someone lived on a deserted island their entire life, and finally found civilization, and asked me what classic rock was..........this is the song i would play for them.

  • @goldwrapper that was the best comment i ever read on youtube

  • @goldwrapper How would they know what classic rock was or how to speak your language?

    THINK IT THROUGH BRO

  • @llamabot156 Really dude??? You read my comment praising this song, and that's what you took away from it???....But i'll bite anyway...Maybe when they find civilization, they would hear people talk about "classic rock", or see a billboard advertising a "classic rock" radio station...How do you discover things???...Obviously they wouldn't know what classic rock was, THATS WHY THEY WOULD ASK!!!...maybe you are the one who should think it through.

  • @goldwrapper They can't READ or UNDERSTAND language you fucking retard. They couldn't ASK anything.

  • @llamabot156 Do you think it's possible that they would have the mental capacity to learn our language, then learn to read, and then inquire about classic rock...Do you realize how stupid you sound right now???...Guess what asshole, 33 other people liked my comment, and percieved it for the compliment that it was instead of one singular moron like yourself, who decided to question how realistic the hypothetical situation was...You are a loser...Get a life.

  • @goldwrapper You mad bro. Google "Trolled".

  • @goldwrapper I more or less can't believe that someone is actually wasting their time arguing over this. Just listen to the damn song

  • @goldwrapper after reading the handicapped dialogue between you two i really cant fathom how ppl are so analytical, your comment is a fantastic way to praise a song bro, however i would choose "Carry on" to play for them. Great Comment man!

  • @goldwrapper kick ass quality classic rock

  • @goldwrapper How would someone whod lived on a deserted island their whole life know how to speak your langauge?

  • @snmaster Going by that logic, how would they also know to ask what classic rock was? Logically, the person would have been assimilated enough to understand most things, but have to ask when concerned with classic rock.

  • @goldwrapper either this or Wayward Son

  • @goldwrapper ............YOU KNOW IT!!!!!

  • One of the greatest songs from one of the greatest albums with one of the greatest album covers from one of the greatest bands EVER.... dam that's a mouthful.

  • This has got to be my favorite Kansas song.

  • ok so Steve Walsh is the singer

  • Yup!

  • Sail on, sail on, I will rise each day to meet the dawn

    So high, so high

I've climbed the mountains of the sky !

  • Amazing, amazing guitar break.

  • Steve Walsh has an amazing voice!

  • I love this song its so beutiful and unlike a lot of 70s rock songs it actually has MEANING

  • i've aslways loved Kansas. Here I am at 53 and I remember Kansas as one oif the best rock bands. I listen to them all the time. Their music has quality! even today!

  • Amazing

  • I was just goofing off found this for the first time ever and now I'm in love!!

  • 5/5

  • One of my all time favorites! When I was 11 yrs old my older brother bought this album at Kmart and brought it home put it on his Marantz Stero. Man what Great music back in the 70's Real musicians playing their instruments, mastering and honeing their craft. Recording on analog tapes, and releasing it on the platter.

  • my favorite band.

  • Rocked my guts out to this one in76' Boy that was a hard Party year, with this Baby on the stereo like every minute. Every kid in town Rocked this record Loud and Proud!!

  • I almost forgot how good this album is! Shouldn't surprise me - sandwiched right between self-titled release (1974) and Song for America (!975). Even though they received commercial acclaim with Leftoverture, their first three albums are their BEST!

  • icarus was a myth....at last many men are flying...higher and higher!one more dream came true...they cant come down no more....

  • What a fabulous song! One of my favorite 70's bands!

  • The second and third Kansas albums are their best albums by far. "Song for America" is more pertinent now than it was over 30 years ago.

Phil Ehart and Rich Williams fuckin' rock!

  • man i love kansas's old shit cuz the newer stuff is just the same. like carry on wayward son i mean u hear it like every day, u never hear the original mysterious stuff.... knowing ppl the only song 50% of the US would pick Carry on Wayward Son. I mean its good but it gets annoying after a few times u hear it .good thing i know the old Kansas

  • what won't work?

I don't think you ever mentioned what it's actually suspposed to do.

  • I know. that is what i said. but i was boerd so i wanted to see if anybody would notice. it seems like your the only one who did.

  • Icarus 2.0? Icarus in Greek mythology had wings of wax. He flew to close to the sun and his wings melted and he had a nice drop to the ground.

  • in this song they talk about icaris having wings of steel so he wont fall. just look at lyrics in discription.

    but i get your point.

  • Everybody forgets that Kerry Livgren wrote most of the good kansas stuff. He was also the better lead guitarist in the band.

  • One of the best songs from one of the best albums from one of the best bands.

  • this sounds like the Kansas to come

  • iNCREDIBLE

  • Original Rock.. Amazing stuff.
