Better CLOTHES? Riding a bike in flare leg pants almost got me KILLED, and made me late for dinner because it tore the chain off my bike, so I'll disagree with you on that score. And I was not wearing a helmet, of course, because we would have beaten the crap out of a kid who wore a helmet just to ride his bike. (And rightly so. Our skulls were thicker, dammit.)
love the hip 70's theme--added drama to what you were going to watch--set the scene so to speak--none of that happening now, that 's for sure!! reality shows--ugh!!
I was born in '78 i dont know if they were still using this promo when i came around nothing like being born in the 1970's & being raised through the 1980's & 1990's those were good times Back in the Days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This IS the "end title" [around 10:58pm(et)], because the opening title was longer, and featured Joel Crager's voice-over. After this, there was either a brief promo, or the ABC logo appeared via telop, with a staff announcer declaring, "This is ABC".
I was born in 1967 I cant even begin to tell you all the things ive done at a young age now days you gotta lock your kids up because its just not safe in america anymore too many pedophiles and criminals gangs and illegal aliens running around our country has gone to shit I miss the good ol days.
@duck2dodger Ditto. I was born in 67 too. I remember things like riding bikes around the neighborhood and to the store after dark, and of course we didn't have cell phones. That seems like another planet compared to these days.
@duck2dodger Yeah bro, I was born in '66, we used to have whole neighborhood games after dark....hide and seek, red rover come over.....and those hot 70's older teen chicks ran the show.
@duck2dodger I was born in '65 I recall me and my older brother (b 1959) going to store to by cigarettes for my dad when my dad was hurt. so here was a 12 yr old and a 6 yr old BUYING cigs...no questions asked
@duck2dodger Actually, a lot of that is sensationalism. Crimes like that are at their lowest point since the seventies according to legitimate statistics. Fear-mongering only benefits the media, not our lives.
@cheapcape Thats what I was alluding too man. Thats what I was alluding too man. Nothing wrong with playing it cool but overprotectiveness has suffocated many of us.
@duck2dodger oh stfu! nothing like some old fool bellyaching about the so called "good old days". Such rot! The world's no diffrent now than it's ever been and in some ways better. I guess ignorance is bliss though
@duck2dodger Well said and very true. It has become less safe now. Many suburban areas have become just as dangerous as the intercity no thanks to the corrupt politicians running our nation in both state and federal level. And all the trash on the radio and television to go along with it. Thank God I not a kid today and it'll get worst for future generations.
@ScorpioBornIn69 Yeah, the real danger stems from corrupted government, not from everyday rapists and terrorists because real statistics show those crimes are at their lowest point. Today, corporate "news" uses fear-mongering to earn big profits and by law they are allowed to lie so there's really no limit to how much BS they can dish out. I used to love watching these networks, but now I rarely watch them.
@duck2dodger I was born in 64, the 70's weren't perfect but they beat the crap out of what is going on today. I completely agree with all of you that it was a better period in which to live. The funny thing is that my friends' parents complained about the the issues faced during the 70's and were nostalgiac about the 50's when they were growing up.
@duck2dodger '66 here...yeah...the mid 70s...when a kid like me could simply get on his bike and spend all day riding all over town...literally...and neither me nor my parents having to worry about some a--hole pedophile grabbing me.
@wannawatchu66 That's very rare, the media lies about that shit. Keep in mind they are legally allowed to lie and they rake in huge profits from scare-mongering. In the 70's, sensationalism was minimized because media companies didn't have as much money and power as they do now.
@duck2dodger Right on! Those illegal immigrants eat children. We need to tell the world! Anyone who comes to this country without going through proper channels are after one thing- our kids! I can't even count how many times I've been out driving around when my headlights fall on an illegal immigrant bent over the half eaten corpse of a child. But try to tell that to a liberal and they just call you crazy.
If I'm not mistaken "Diary Of A Teenage Hitchhiker" premiered on ABC one Friday night. The memory I have of the time when that movie came out is priceless!
The greatest decade ever. Best clothes, best music, girls with long straight hair, best TV, best cars 1970 'Cuda, Superbird, Challenger, Nova SS, Boss 429, man talk about American Muscle at it finest 1970 was the year!!!
@zl1vette427 You're thinking of the NBC Sunday Night Mystery Movie theme. McMillan & Wife. Banacek. McCloud. Columbo. That was a great night for TV. Great stories, great actors and terrific theme music.
This isn't the "Intro"; that lasted a full minute, with announcer Joel Crager billboarding the title and the evening's "feature presentation" (with exciting clips from the movie). This is actually the "closing title" [seen just before 11pm(et)], followed by a promo and/or staff announcer intoning, "This is ABC".
I don't recognize this at all. This did make me think about being little and having no indication that the next hour was coming up and your jumping on the couch 'cause noone can stop you if they don't see you and suddenly CBS plays that loud fast music and something wont be seen and then, it happens "CBS special" comes spinning out and its a Halloween cartoon or some awesome christmas cartoon. Man i'm gonna build a time machine!
Actually, this was the "outro" for that movie night. After this, there'd either be a quick promo and/or a staff announcer would declare over a still of the network's logo, "This is ABC".
September 1977, I was watching ABC FNM (Pink Panther), when my brother called me outside where there was a UFO floating in the sky. Absolutely True and will always be in my memory!!!
It was about 9pm, half-way through the movie. The sky was clear, but the city lights of north Dallas dimmed the stars. It was in a classic saucer shape, with about a dozen white lights circling the the edges and a red light on top. When I first saw it, it was half-way down the block hovering about 50 feet above a house, and it slowly moved up the street, stopping in front of our house. Eventually it moved off. There was no noise. It was about the size of a house. No explanation, no joke.
There used to be a movie show on the weekends back around '72 or '73, where the intro was basically music and someone in the darkness shining a flashlight beam around as if they were looking for something. All you could see was the flashlight beam while the music played. I can even remember the tune of the song but I can't remember the show title. Anyone remember this show?
The video quality didn't translate over, but the music R-O-C-K-S ! This was the ending/closing of the movie at the end of primetime just before reverting over to local news and such. They called this "the playout" at ABC, back when they did such things... now it's no glamour, no polish, just all commercials. Thanks so much for posting this.
Wow this really dates me!! I remember this as a backdrop to my childhood!! I thought I'd never see this ever again; found it sort of by accident here.
I remember those intros all to well. Reminds me of my youth in the 70's. Those intros were so glitzy it made you forget that the actual TV movie was cheesy crap.
Good morning and sorry for my english : it's around the same "generique" that for "LE CINEMA DU DIMANCHE SOIR" diffused in France on TF1 " de 1975 à 1989".
Amazing Opening to the opening prelude of "The ABC Friday Night Movies" would be the end result of this video. I would not rate the video a 5 ... I would rate a 10!! The following clip came from the 1975-1976 Television Season!! My first instinct? The James Bond Films. Enjoy!!
This is the one from DT's 70's website from so long ago.
