Dianne, It would truely make my heart attack, having to read so many uneducated and off the wall comments. This animal is well behaved-handsome-talented-baroque and noble as all get out! What a fine representative of the Friesian horse and successful and a great promtion for the breed!
Why would anyone think he's ruining the breed with his color? How can a horse's coat coloring be "wrong"? Who made it a rule that all Friesians have to be black? Some people think the red coloring is gorgeous. I am one of those people. ;)
Fire Magic is pretty and all but he is not very red. He sired a colt that came out a true chestnut friesian. His colt's name is Renoir and if you google his name with the words "red friesian" it will take you to his website. I have to say Fire Magic is a really cool name for a red friesian.
@coley4horses For your information. Red is the term used in the Friesian World for the "red Friesian horses." Fire Magic is a liver chestnut, his son is a sorrel but both are red's. You make it sound like Fire Magic is not a red and in fact he is very red although a liver chestnut with blond feathers. I have seen pictures of his son and he is a lovely color like his Mother , who is not chestnut but sorrel. You might want to bone up on color standards and true meanings before making statements.
Beautiful horse. I've only just found out about Fox Friesians, I hope breeders create a seperate registry for them, their rarity would make them quite valuable.
Ground manners a bit better now, he is a bouncy guy.LOL. Absolutely in the stud book and at last check was the only registered RED in Fhana. Pass by the manners and see him work? Another page, he's the greatest.
For the most part he looks like a faded black. Sometimes when the camera zooms closer on him I can see yeah he is a bit reddish however its not that pronounced. Does having this color mean somewhere in his family tree after the stud book was closed someone crossed with another breed or did the stud book decide to only recognize black friesians?
He is a liver chestnut, as said in the info. Liver chestnuts are darker than the average coppery chestnut, which explains why he looks so dark. Genetically, black horses are either Ee or EE. Fire Magic is ee, meaning he has two recessive copies of the "red gene" and makes him a chestnut. Friesians used to come in red until black became the preferred color for their purpose as cart horses. Since the recessive gene can "hide" behind the dominant gene, it's still out there, but seldom shows up
Please, change the title of this video. Its like false advertising. There is NO SUCH THING AS HOMOZYGOUS RED. He may be a chestnut, and may be a red carrier but he will NOT prodouce red foals 100% of the time...
Being homozygous is NOT the same as "breeding true." It simply means that the two genes that control a give locus are the same. Any homozygous animal is capable of producing offspring that is NOT the same color as them, depending on the genetics of the individual they are bred to. BTW, equidancer, I have a cremello FSH mare that has her eyes on Fire Magic ;)
So interesting and actually looks good! Very handsome and rare!
Yes, friesians are bred for black color but this can happen as Jet Black bred to Jet Black gives jet black in 75% of progeny and dark chestnut in 25% of progeny. That is why approved friesian stallions are tested on color genetics (homozygous). In fact the black color is easily bred being the second most recessive color after chestnut.
He's RED all the time. He is a liver chestnut, never sheds but is a brighter red in the summer. There are about 7 red Friesian mares in the U.S. one had his chestnut col, another was this stallin's half sister, all regestered Friesians. Yes there are reds the registry just doesn't want them around.
i can see his red much better in this video than the dancing video just because the light is natural, beautiful. ive never seen a red friesian. i just love it how all these "experts" try to tell you what your horse is lol! some people just wanna argue no matter what. i think you did well to come across this rare beauty!
It says he is double registered what is he registered in?friesian registeries dont accept any color but black and even then they cant have more than a small face markin
Better do your research. His number in Fhana registry 26091 his chip number is 00005799136 born in 1997 in Friesland where I purchased him at 6 months. He was registered in Friesland and then registered in the main stud book in North America Fhana. If you don't believe I have papers or you can contact Fhana directly. He is tested Davis Vet College as homozygous RED.
I have a 16.2 hand cremello Saddlebred mare I'm thinking of breeding to a Friesian......it would be nice to have a palomino as this particular cross with MY mare would produce palomino!
I am breeding my Cremello Saddlebred mare this week to Fire Magic. I am very hopeful for a Palomino. I have a special price breeding fee of $1000 for colored mares.
He is absolutely stunning in person as well, I got to watch him and Dianne in Albany, Oregon a few years back now. He is a very rich burgundy color and not the first Friesian to crop up in a color other than black (since black is recessive). The chestnuts are noted in Friesian history as well as the fact that the majority of them were never registered. Cheers Dianne and Fire Magic!
Since Fire Magic was bred and born in Holland he is truly one of a kind as at last check with Fhana he is the only red registered Friesian stallion. Fun huh. Four mares are being bred this year. I am going for Palominos and Cremellos
He's wonderful and good god does he has such fluid, elastic movement! Good luck and I hope he produces more foals, I'd love to see them in the show ring!
i personally think a chestnut fresian is not ruining the breed. this horse has amazing conformation and a pretty gait and headset. i think the color would be a bonus if you bred to this stallion.

Don't you just love how people can be so negative, looking at the measuring point I would think he measures 17hh but his topline makes him look smaller.
Anyways regardless his size he'd be welcome in my stable anyday. I am in Australia & would love to visit your show Equidancer sometime in the future, I am in a similar line of work/performances & whilst I'd love to add Friesians to my lineup I'll have to wait until my bank account can afford the hefty price of the good ones out here.
Yes, people are quick to judge that which they know nothing about. This stallion is almost too big for the work I do with him but he is a talent. Hope you get a Friesian someday. Australia is one place I've never been, would love to see it.
Whatever you guys say, you must be experts but you guys go for it. The fact remains he is 17 hands a purebred registered Friesian stallion in both Fhana and Friesland. He is homozygous red tested. Look and weap you can't change facts.
like cattlemanroam said, unless the person handling him is REALLY tall, u cant be serious. and i WOULD know what 17 hands looks like, my belgian is 17.3 closer to 18 tho. he is gorgeous i'll give you that. i'll believe you, but i geuss i would have to really see to believe. maybe it's just the camera, i dont know. Good luck to him, handler and owner tho :]
my boyfriend is 6'2" and measured up about the same to my 17.1 warmblood- so that horse can easily be 17 hh. what a stupid, random thing to bring up! obviously this owner of a STALLION probably has the ability to measure his/her horses. duh.
equidancer said "First time he's been called cute if 17 hands can be cute. Glad you enjoyed him." Unless the handler in this video is over 8 feet tall this is not a 17 hand stallion. If the handler is 6`2 he is maybe 15.1 or 15.2 hands which is the average and perfect height for this breed of horse. Very lovely horse and can`t wait to see more of him once he`s been trained to behave in hand.
I thought exactly the same thing when I saw this video a few years ago, but after meeting "Chewie" in person, I can vouch that he really is 17hh. And by the way...thanks for saying 15.1 or 15.2 is average and perfect height for this breed.....my stallion is 15.2 and gets called the "Wee Frie" because people are so used to seeing the giant Friesians that are so popular these days ;{
Actually, yes... the handler is 6'2", and yes... Chewy is all of 17hh. If you're waiting to watch him based on his handling ability, you're truely missing out.
My friend sent her fresian mare to a trainer and the trainer made her live in a roundpen with 6 inches of sand for 3 months, by the time she got her back ALL of her feathers were worn off of her legs beause of the sand. She almost cried.
My Friesian goes red in the sun and he's a purebred, sired by Teunis 332. Everyone commented on his colour in the summer. Even in the winter we can still see a trace of 'copper' on his feathers although has gone black now.
Beautiful horse...however... The Friesian breed is almost exclusively black; in fact, it is the only color recognized by registries. A very, very rare Chestnut will sometimes occur-- this only happens when both parents are not homozygous blacks. Most friesians are homozygous, and can never sire a chestnut foal. Silver has also rarely occurred in the Friesian.
Damn, what a good-looking horse, whatever his color! In the opening and closing shots, he looks more like a bay than a liver chestnut. In between, in some lights, he looks nearly black. So I guess I'll take your word for it!
of course! seems like everyone ends up in cALI!! i ride more like appys/qaurterhorse type, used to ride 1/2 arabs, but this breed hs got ot be the most impressive. how did u gt into the Friesians
I had one of the first Friesians when they were really unusual. I trained and show him them across the country as a entertainment performance. Saw the first one in a circus in Europe, then the search was on.
I agree...more ladyhawke music, and what was the music behind the free lunge inside the arena? Didn't recognise it, but fit his movement beautifully. Very athletic horse!
they aren't completely pure bread(I don't know much about that anyway), but they have a life of luxury, I assure you. Sometimes I want to be in their place=)
these horses are gorgeous i love friesians soo much! I am soo jealous! I dont suppose you know anyone with a friesian gelding for sale in the uk for around £5,000 do you?? If you do please let me know by replying to my comment!!! Thanks
Try looking in Horse and Hound, you might have to wait for one to grow up, but it would be worth the wait! I think also under Freisians on u-tube there are several for sale but don't remember their prices or where they were.
Loved the Ladyhawke music. Used to ride to it all the time.Love to see Equidancer to dance to that but probably already has.
Love ya

Hi Friesianfozzel I saw your message about wanting a Friesian. I know someone who has imported them we have bought 2 off her. If you want details get back to me.
One colt is red out of a red Friesian mare. His sire carried the red gene which some Friesians do. Fire Magic is registered in Friesland and the Fhana in the US
Where/how would one see that picture? In ten years he has had only one registered get? Has he bred outside then? Have you ever bred him to an Arab or a Morgan mare?
I'm not into breeding, he is used for performing. He has two foals and two mares asorbed. I can send you the photo if you send your email address. He was bred to one Arab mare, she asorbed.
I read somewhere only first generation red Friesians can be registered, but if a red foal out of two reds can't...

Freark 218
Ijsbrand 238
Laes 278
Diedert 288
Jillis 301
Wicher 334
Atse 342
Abe 346

Damn, what a good-looking horse, whatever his color! In the opening and closing shots, he looks more like a bay than a liver chestnut. In between, in some lights, he looks nearly black. So I guess I'll take your word for it!
jessyquedens 4 years ago
Yes, it takes the sun to see his color but he is definately Red. I jsut sent in his hair for DNA testing for breeding.

of course! seems like everyone ends up in cALI!! i ride more like appys/qaurterhorse type, used to ride 1/2 arabs, but this breed hs got ot be the most impressive. how did u gt into the Friesians
getgorgeousnow 4 years ago
I had one of the first Friesians when they were really unusual. I trained and show him them across the country as a entertainment performance. Saw the first one in a circus in Europe, then the search was on.

Were you at the CA state fair this year? If so I saw him there. I think you also did a performance on another friesian and an arab?
emr2e 4 years ago
Yes, she performed at the '07 CA State Fair with Fire Magic, as well as another friesian, an arab, and a lippizzan.

oh hes gorgeous and great music choice <3 ladyhawke

I agree...more ladyhawke music, and what was the music behind the free lunge inside the arena? Didn't recognise it, but fit his movement beautifully. Very athletic horse!

they aren't completely pure bread(I don't know much about that anyway), but they have a life of luxury, I assure you. Sometimes I want to be in their place=)
driverxs 4 years ago
Well I am sure they are lucky happy horses. They really do have great temperments
equidancer 4 years ago
I have 5 of them at my fathers range. They are majestic, but have a bad character=)
driverxs 4 years ago
Are you an expert on Friesian character? Maybe range care is not acceptable for a purebred horse of this quality
equidancer 4 years ago
these horses are gorgeous i love friesians soo much! I am soo jealous! I dont suppose you know anyone with a friesian gelding for sale in the uk for around £5,000 do you?? If you do please let me know by replying to my comment!!! Thanks
friesianzfozzel 4 years ago
Sorry, I don't have any contacts in the UK
equidancer 4 years ago
You do to! You have me, remember?
Try looking in Horse and Hound, you might have to wait for one to grow up, but it would be worth the wait! I think also under Freisians on u-tube there are several for sale but don't remember their prices or where they were.
Loved the Ladyhawke music. Used to ride to it all the time.Love to see Equidancer to dance to that but probably already has.
Love ya

He looked black to me up until the 1:30-34(ish) marks. Beautiful Stallion.
CutterGrl05 4 years ago
what color are his children/were his parents? black is supposed to be the dominant color in friesians, so one of his parents must have been red?
Sabley 4 years ago
One colt is red out of a red Friesian mare. His sire carried the red gene which some Friesians do. Fire Magic is registered in Friesland and the Fhana in the US

How old is this stallion? Any photos or vids of his get?
dutchddog 4 years ago
Fire Magic was born in Friesland in 1997. I brought him at 6 months. I'll post a picture of his first purebred colt
equidancer 4 years ago
Where/how would one see that picture? In ten years he has had only one registered get? Has he bred outside then? Have you ever bred him to an Arab or a Morgan mare?
dutchddog 4 years ago
I'm not into breeding, he is used for performing. He has two foals and two mares asorbed. I can send you the photo if you send your email address. He was bred to one Arab mare, she asorbed.

Yes, Breyer made the model named Fire Magic in 2005. He also appeared as a special performance at Breyerfest.
