Thanks! At some point I hope to get a better tripod that won't sway so much when it's windy outside... I think that will improve my camera work greatly. ;-)
It sounded like the track had short rail (not the welded rail now used on most mainline tracks). It sounded the wheels were going clickety-clack. Was that a temporary situation, or had the old rail not been replaced recently?
The clickety-clack sound was due to flat spots on the wheels of some of the cars, especially the NPCU. The rails were indeed welded, but the flat wheels make a lot of noise and it does sound similar to the old clickety-clack of jointed rail.
The territory is relatively flat. The engine you see on the end of the train is the only engine in the consist. The lead unit is a NPCU -- a locomotive that has had its engine removed and is used only as a control unit and baggage compartment.
The Genesis has angry eyes-- it must hate the Downeaster :P

Why was there a Genisis at the rear of the train if there's an F40 pulling it?

That's not an F40, that's an NPCU. Please refer to the earlier comments for an explanation of what an NPCU is. Thanks. :-)

Is it still that way?
