OK, so: Sy Zentner, lead trombone; Arthur Gleghorn, flute; Gus Bivona, alto/clt...was looking for Eleanor Slatkin (cello) but no luck; maybe Felix & Eleanor played elsewhere? Anyone recognize anyone else?
I have always wished it was possible to buy a compilation of the back ground music from those older black and white Hollywood films. Quite often the scores are so haunting that they distract me from the film.
you should also watch the John Wilson Orchestra who do a note perfect tribute to this production along with many more movie classics such as Singing in the rain and many others.
I know a few orchestras that would love that arrangement. Johnny Green conducted us once, he was wonderful, a complete gentleman, and he knew what he was doing.
I can't see or hear it getting any better than this; film musicals. I wish you out there could help and identify the various players, they deserve the legacy.
Thanks for putting this on youtube. I'm a classic movie fan, and this was just great, seeing this wonderful orchestra that had been featured in so many films and musicals.
Wish they had used subtitles rather than a narrator, though. But it's still such terrific and lush music.
ugh, shoulda looked at the rest of Benge's post. Thanks for the info!

This is so wonderful to hear. The finest players playing with such gusto!

Don't think that's right on the concertmaster as Felix Slatkin. Info says Lou Raderman and I've just seen a pic of FS which doesn't bear comparison.

Beautiful music and beautiful playing by real musicians.

Yes, that is Si Zentner on lead trombone.
It's great hearing how it used to be, 'back in the day...' Wish it could have gone on forever. Best wishes.
