First off, that cop definitely did not have the car for speeding, which is exactly why he couldn't tell him the speed he was travelling. Hell, look at the replay and use some common sense - the cop is pulling over to the side of the road and it would make sense that the other guy was slowing down as he did so...The driver did NOT have to sign the ticket and there is no law or statute requiring him to do so. This cop just loves the power and you can practically hear him salivate about it.

Now if you don't sign the ticket you will be arrested in criminal cases. If it is a civil citation then you can refuse to sign the ticket and the officer will just note that you refused to sign. That's why I say, if he had informed the man of this, none of this happens.
It's real simple. You either sign the ticket, or you go jail. You can't refuse to sign the ticket, and then refuse to go to jail. These are not options for you. If you resist arrest, you will get tazed, and... you should! If you really want to dispute the charges, you can take up in court. But you can't say "I'm not signing that", that isn't an option.

They can hold you a full week, and fine you several thousand dollars. By the way, most countries are far worse. Your in one of the few countries where holding you in jail, and a fine, is about the worse. In Cuba, Mexico, and many others, you curse out a police officer, you could get beaten for it, and nothing will happen to the officer.

Then you get a hearing before a judge, who has the discretion to let you out of jail pending a trial on your ticket after making sure that you will appear (eg, bail).

Actually, I look at a lot of abuse videos, and this looks pretty tame. Most cops do a great job, and have good people skills. There are a few bad jerks out there, but to be honest, this looks like the cop pretty much went by the book. I do think that he could have been a bit more patient with the guy and spent some time explaining the man's rights. Now, how long will this post last? I don't like cops, but in this case, the officer was right. All Jared had to do was sign the ticket. The officer asked nothing more. If he just did what he was told, then he'd be free to do what we wanted afterwards. Jared should've signed the ticket, then gone and looked for the 40 mph speed limit sign which was shown in this recorded footage.
Jared refused to sign the ticket and was totally unaware that he was under arrest. The officer told him to turn around, and he refused.

What the hell was the cop was doing. The cop had the tazer out when he got out of the car. The guy was scared, he knew the cop had it out for him simply cause he didn't want to sign. When you don't sign a ticket the police are required to take you in front of a judge to face the charges and make your plea of guilty or not. Also, it is a criminal act to not sign the ticket. @saturn0660, wrong choice of words. it's not an admission of guilt. It's basically saying you will appear or take care of the ticket and if you don't you cannot say you didn't receive the ticket. Now if you don't sign the ticket you will be arrested in criminal cases. If it is a civil citation then you can refuse to sign the ticket and the officer will just note that you refused to sign. That's why I say, if he had informed the man of this, none of this happens.

It's real simple. You either sign the ticket, or you go jail. You can't refuse to sign the ticket, and then refuse to go to jail. These are not options for you. If you resist arrest, you will get tazed, and... you should! If you really want to dispute the charges, you can take up in court. But you can't say "I'm not signing that", that isn't an option.

They can hold you a full week, and fine you several thousand dollars. By the way, most countries are far worse. Your in one of the few countries where holding you in jail, and a fine, is about the worse. In Cuba, Mexico, and many others, you curse out a police officer, you could get beaten for it, and nothing will happen to the officer.

Police can arrest you if do not sign a ticket (been there and have the T-shirt)... since he (the driver) did not obey the officer (he was being arrested) he was tazered. According to force continuum (look it up if you dont know) there is verbal control, physical, and hard control. Verbal control did not work on the driver..... how do I know all this,,, Military training and also.... was almost arrested in same situation.

@jonny1392 Signing the ticket is just a promise to appear. If you refuse to promise to appear by signing the ticket, they arrest you and book you. Then you get a hearing before a judge, who has the discretion to let you out of jail pending a trial on your ticket after making sure that you will appear (eg, bail).
By refusing to sign, a person is making the whole experience a lot more expensive for themselves.

Actually, I look at a lot of abuse videos, and this looks pretty tame. Most cops do a great job, and have good people skills. There are a few bad jerks out there, but to be honest, this looks like the cop pretty much went by the book. I do think that he could have been a bit more patient with the guy and spent some time explaining the man's rights. Now, how long will this post last? I see no other postings by normal people who think that the man should not have walked away from an arrest.

Pt. 1 - If the officer was in the right the gentleman would not have gotten $40K. The cop just told him to get out of the car and turn around as they walked back to the cop car (he was practically in the road). when he asked why the cop tased him. he should have informed him of the consequences if he didn't sign (which he didn't). then he should have said i'm placing you under arrest for...... I don't like cops, but in this case, the officer was right. All Jared had to do was sign the ticket. The officer asked nothing more. If he just did what he was told, then he'd be free to do what we wanted afterwards. Jared should've signed the ticket, then gone and looked for the 40 mph speed limit sign which was shown in this recorded footage.
Jared refused to sign the ticket and was totally unaware that he was under arrest. The officer told him to turn around, and he refused.
