  • I learned this as the Harmonic Minor scale? is there any difference or have I done something wrong?

  • @F4TB0Y69

please watch the part 1 of this lesson

  • @F4TB0Y69 This scale is a mode of the harmonic minor scale, in fact it's the 5th *dominant* mode of harmonic minor. So if you if you had in this example E phrygian dominant, the tonic mode, or first mode would be A harmonic minor. :)

  • @Milesbakerforguitar alright cool man thanks for the info =]

  • @F4TB0Y69 Yea man! No prob!

  • @tziras Thank you.

  • I can play phrygian anywhere on the neck.

You just need to remember the triad of the phrygian chord of the scale where you are in.

  • Your a lefty right?

  • @tziras Do you also have a lesson on hyperphrygian?

  • @liamzuid

    no...

  • @chiefpotpipe

  • Very nice runs towards the end! Is it important on which chord you play the G sharp? On the fast runs it doesn't seem to matter but I would like your opinion...Thanks

  • @heorze09

    no it is not vital

  • are you left handed? :d couldn't help notice the keyboard.

  • Thanks For Theses Lessons! Theyre Very Helpfull! Keep It Up!

  • this one helped me a lot.

    thnx

  • I never really knew what people meant by Phrygian "dominant" until I saw this video, but now I get it! From the looks of it you're basically playing harmonic minor, and of course since it's Phrygian, you're starting on the 5th, or the 3rd of the relative major. Thanks for the lesson man! Nice original track too. =)

  • man oh man, you are good!, Ive always been intrigued by phrygian even though I didnt know at the time that was what it was called. It has a middle eastern exotic flavor to it which sounds great. Keep up the good work with the lessons and the original material as well. Cheers!!

  • 5 star thanks for sharing ur stuff

  • so let say that the solo from Megadeth´s "Headcrusher" use a lot of this scale? ... just saying! and thanks a lot for your videos, they are very instructional.

  • furious alternate picking

  • SWEET!!! T.Ziras you sell and got the tabs for your lessons?? Very thorough and educational..First Class my Man!!!

  • Thanx Bro!!! Really enjoy your lessons and look forward to buying your lessons and cds..I really enjoy Shred Guitar and just got turned on to your web site..Way Cool!!!!!!!!

  • Very nice :D

  • This is by far the best guitar lessen I've seen on youtube!! way to go man!

  • soooo sick man thanks for putting this up

  • dope!!

  • wow man this tutorial is amazing

btw. funny you turned that video around :P

  • Thanks for your lessons.

Something that confuses me ? What is the difference between E Phygian Dominant scale and the A Harmonic Minor .

The scale fingering is the same. Is the only difference the chord that is being played? What happens if you're playing Powerchords, which are only T+5th ?

    Thanks

  • Things are very simple...

Both scales have the same notes....BUT

    they sound totally different....

just treat every scale/mode as it is....and play from the root over each relative chord

this will make you life easier...

  • Thanks.. Now I understand! Follow the Root, always!!

  • Just follow the root....this is it!!

  • Thank you SO MUCH for these posts!! I finally understand the concept behind solos!!

  • I especially like how when you solo, you stay in the box that you start with, and you call out which notes you land on to stress the flavor of the mode. That's a big thing I'm working on. Thanks for posting!

  • theodore paizodas pano se d harmonic minor frasis ti tha borousa na valo os rithmikes...gia enorxistroy as poume..

  • D/ Eb/ C...power chords

  • What do you do for some of your faster licks for this scale? I think a cool lesson would be you explaining some of your faster licks that you use for this scale

  • Check part 4.....will be up in few hours

  • Isn't it great to see an amazing artist providing us wannabe guitarists free lessons. My style is very similar to Theodore's so i'm very grateful...Bravo levendi. Hope you can come to Mebourne Australia one day in the future.

  • Really nice job man, I appreciate what you are doing with your vids, in my opinion you take care about all the details for example you invert the image for right handed players and they understand what you explain in a better way. I'm left handed and I know how hard could be teaching or lerning guitar when your teacher or student is right handed and viceversa. I'm sure that everybody are thankful

    with your nice effort.

    GOOD LUCK!!!

  • Hey Ziras, good channel. I noticed you use in some of your vids pc based fxs for the guitar...

I want to know what PC based fx you use for a metal distortion and what PC based FX you'll recommend for that.

    Thks...

  • On this video i am using Guitar Rig 3

    The extreme metal preset...

    i did few changes...

    less gain and less mids

  • ziras, love your style and knowledge and generosity to share with us.

I have one question though, is it better to learn CAGED or three note per string or the 7 scales (not three note per string).

How do you make so you become fluent between the positions etc.

  • I am using CAGED system generally.

I prefer the 3 note per string patterns only when i have to play something really fast.....it suits better

In order to memorize the boxes it takes some time....but after that its is "a piece of cake" to connect them

  • I was getting bored playing guitar today and a vid of yours popped up, now I have something new and interesting to practice thanks man

  • dude, you are fuckin amazing at guitar. not only are you good at playing it, but you KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. everything you do you know what it is: note, scale etc. I love you

  • One sexy as hell scale. Defo one of my faves. Cheers muchly for the lesson man.

  • I enjoyed your lesson what brand of guitar is that?

  • Palm Bay Guitars (out of business now)

  • fuking awesome \m/

  • thanks dude.. is helpful..

  • thank you sir ... great video !

  • Thanks for the lesson! What is the principle of making diminished arpeggios over e-phygrian dominat scale. Has D some relation to e-phygrian dominat scale because you can start dim.arpeggio from D. (D, Bb, G#, F)

  • For E phrygian dominant=>

Go a major third up (G#)

So you can play G#dim arpeggio over

    a Emaj chord

  • @tziras im kind of confused. why is the G# so important to hit when u hit a root?

  • Because it is the 3rd degree....

Also this is the note that makes the difference from the normal phrygian scale

  • my neighbors hate me because i always play so loud on my guitar

  • awesome lesson I really appreciate it.5 stars.Could you show us the other modes.

  • dude awesome that sounds like something from disturbe's guitarist going to rewatch video 1 to learn how to do it

  • Ziras Rules!!!.... Thank you dude

  • You are a brilliant teacher as well as a very skilled player bro - Nice work I appreciate what you are doing!

  • Happy new year!Hohoho and stuff!Just wondering...Is any of your famous clinics going to happen any time soon?I'm Greek , I just right in english for everyone to understand!

  • I love the sound of this scale. Thanks for teaching it!

  • " I can do it so you can do it " hahah Theodore, you're shredding is impossible, for me atleast xD

Thanks for the lesson I rly learned a lot

  • @sulz47 i totally agree check out 5:07~!

  • for me is almost the same sound betwen this scale and the menor harmonic scale, but it is major. What do you think Ziras?

  • if i can understand what you say....

Phrygian Dom is the 5th mode of the Harm Minor..also Phrygian Dom has a major 3rd.....

so that's why the chord is major

  • What I mean is: E F# G A B C D# E Harm Minor is tha same as: B Phrygian B C D# E F# G A B, but the root changes and the 2 scales you made a tension with an space of 1 and 1/2 tones, I guess it guives the particular soud of those scales. I hope you can understandme, I am from Mexico and my english is not good enought

  • I understand what you say but...

you have to treat each mode as it is

an as as a relative scales

Phrygian dom cam be palyed over maj chord

    and has a distinctive sound

and has the same notes with other 6 modes of the Harm Minor scale...but it doesn't matter

they have the same notes....no the same sound

  • Thank you Ziras, I need more knowles about harmony an practice more all the modes, but it's very helpfull nice lesson as always.

  • you can do it for sure! but I am struggling and hating that I can't play that fast =/

  • Why do you break the 3 note per string pattern on the g string?

I would rather play 3 notes on the g string as well:

    G# A and B

Maybe to avoid the position shift?

    Just an opinion

  • yes....to avoid the shift

but also i am using the 3 note per strings patterns

when i want to play something really fast

  • S' AGAPAME TZIRAAAAAAAAAAA!!! etsi re, gia tin Ellada reee :D, parakolou8w videakia sou kai voi8ane polu. sinexise megale

  • You are amazing..Thx for the teaching...great teacher

  • superb as always, thank you
