As soon as I heard Chomsky publicly state that 9/11 was not a conspiracy, my antenna went up. I realized he was either a shill or uninformed on this issue. It had no influence on me whatsoever. I think generally, those on the left will pick this up.

It may be quite a good benchmark though, if they believe the government BS on 9/11, then they are probably a shill even if they have previously had leftist ideals.

I think it's possible that the media accept the bin Laden videos at face value because of corruption, but it could be because bin Laden tends to be sitting in front of the camera talking about how crap America is.

Not at all, thats the whole point of a gatekeeper. The gatekeeper must, as much as possible, tell a lot of truth and criticize the organization he works for. He only lies about, or diverts focus away from, a few key issues.
