maybe the D.A.R.E. where you live is better than the one i got, but where i was it was horribly exaggerated propaganda. one time i told the cop that my dad said one glass a wine of day is healthy, and he looked at me like im insane and said "no alcohol is ever healthy. your father is an alcoholic"

D.A.R.E. is very counterproductive and you shouldn't be involved with it. Instead of teaching kids the reality of drug use, then spread propaganda such as, "try it once and you're hooked." As such, when children do try it, and find out they do NOT get addicted right away, they think they are immune to addiction, before discovering that addiction is actually a lengthy process. Moderation is key. Please, either don't contribute to the program or get the truth out.

I'm straight edge in that I don't believe in doing drugs or alcohol for personal reasons, but I'm not sure I like the label. Like, I'm not straight edge just to sound cool or because other people are; I'm that way because it was a promise I made when I was younger that I believe very strongly in.

Unfortunately, I think I was one of maybe 3 people in my class that actually listened to D.A.R.E. As a program, I actually think it's wildly ineffective. It just makes kinds curious and teaches them how they can defy authority. I mean, if you're taught by police officers not to do drugs and then grow up to resent all authority, you'll do the exact opposite of what they've taught you.

Eh, that's what happened at my school. Maybe it works for others. Sorry this is such a pessimistic comment.

Well what's the point of any sort of education with that mindset? Haha. If you just assume that students will not pay attention or purposefully 'defy authority,' then you could argue all education is ineffective.

What kids do is up to them, but DARE is about teaching them the consequences of choices they may make. Better that they know then be surprised by the results.
