maybe the D.A.R.E. where you live is better than the one i got, but where i was it was horribly exaggerated propaganda. one time i told the cop that my dad said one glass a wine of day is healthy, and he looked at me like im insane and said "no alcohol is ever healthy. your father is an alcoholic"
D.A.R.E. is very counterproductive and you shouldn't be involved with it. Instead of teaching kids the reality of drug use, then spread propaganda such as, "try it once and you're hooked." As such, when children do try it, and find out they do NOT get addicted right away, they think they are immune to addiction, before discovering that addiction is actually a lengthy process. Moderation is key. Please, either don't contribute to the program or get the truth out.
Trying anything once is not going to get you addicted. I'm not suggesting anyone indulge themselves in heroin or cocaine regularly. But it is important to know the realities of addiction, and of experience so that students can make their own well-informed decisions.
UHG!!! i remember dare! damn... that was a long ass time ago.. i got a spiffy t-shirt and 100$ cash for winning a dare essay competition i think i got second...
haha our school did D.A.R.E too i remember having a police officer come in and talk to us as well as some high schoolers whom, at the time, we found immensely fascinating and cool lol
gahhhhhhhhh!!!! i LOVE the polar express!!!! yes. i am fifteen years old, and i will sit there and watch the polar express 20 times every december. it's my favorite christmas movie. <3
haha i remember D.A.R.E from 5th grade..and i kinda remember the song they made us sing,
D i wont do drugs, A wont have not attidue, R i will respect my self, E i will educate you now...wow i cant believe i remember that, it was such a long ago :P
I'm straight edge in that I don't believe in doing drugs or alcohol for personal reasons, but I'm not sure I like the label. Like, I'm not straight edge just to sound cool or because other people are; I'm that way because it was a promise I made when I was younger that I believe very strongly in.
So I am straight edge, but I'm not. If that makes sense.
I never was in DARE. On the first day they told us that people who drink even a little or have tattoos are bad and we should stay away from them. I wasn't allowed by my parents to go back
It isn't ridiculous to be thankful for JK Rowling (or Harry Potter). I'm thankful for Stephenie Meyer because reading her books last year got me through a reallllly tough time.
I'm sorrrry! I've been so busy with auditions and Denis and school and tons of things. I always get home super late and just go homework and sleep! I'm lame! Haha. <3
Unfortunately, I think I was one of maybe 3 people in my class that actually listened to D.A.R.E. As a program, I actually think it's wildly ineffective. It just makes kinds curious and teaches them how they can defy authority. I mean, if you're taught by police officers not to do drugs and then grow up to resent all authority, you'll do the exact opposite of what they've taught you.
Eh, that's what happened at my school. Maybe it works for others. Sorry this is such a pessimistic comment.
Well what's the point of any sort of education with that mindset? Haha. If you just assume that students will not pay attention or purposefully 'defy authority,' then you could argue all education is ineffective.
What kids do is up to them, but DARE is about teaching them the consequences of choices they may make. Better that they know then be surprised by the results.
Today's awesome because this day has gotten progressively worse and I'd almost forgotten you hadn't posted yet, but then I logged on and here you were-making my day better. Thanks :)
Congratulations on your two very different roles in the play, lol! What's the logic behind being double-cast? Will someone else play your other role each night?
