  • How exactly is this wind powered? Wouldnt the added drag of any turbine negate any energy created? Dont get me wrong im no big physics freak as some of you seem to be, so i may just be talking out my ass here.

  • But that French car does no go as fast as this car and as efficient as this one...

  • the french have a car that runs on compressed air

  • cool project. interesting choice to use belt drive and two motors. is the gearing a custom design? what kind of efficiency does it have?

and what's the cars 0-100km/h time?

  • The concept of a wind powered car only seems plausible if they used a wind turbine in the car and that is possible. There is a company called Flodesign; an aerospace company, that has created a turbine that is much smaller than present designs and is much more efficient. If you took this design and shrunk it down to fit in a car, I'm sure it could generate enough power. But this all theory. A small wind turbine in a car could be the future.

  • @Takshia89 absolute not. it is technically possible to make a car like vehicle powered by the wind but it would be similar to a sail ship in that it's limited by power and direction of the wind and it would be rather slow and extremely impractical. there was a competion for directly wind powered cars and they don't look normal at all. windmills should of course be large stationary things, not mounted on the car. although you could have one you could unfold when it's parked.

  • @DanFrederiksen actually it is you that is absolutely wrong, due to the fact that you are not an innovative person. You are simply looking at designs of today and not looking into the future. Think about a normal gas powered car. Now think about where the radiator is. Got it. See you're thinking about the turbine being on the outside of a car, why? The front of a car is where all the wind force is, so place the turbine where the radiator is. Believe it or not I do know what I'm talking about.

  • DanFrederiksen I actually do know what I'm talking about. I work closely with IBM and people in the auto industry. So my word of advice to you is stop looking at the prototypes of yesterday. So thank you for your invalid reasoning, but keep trying.

  • @Takshia89 actually it is you : ) I easily understand your idea, it just doesn't work.

and I'm very innovative, take a look at this car concept of mine (zev. dk) and you can check the rocker engine principle in my youtube vids.

I've thought of a design for a practical inexpensive flying car too. something never done before. not something hideous like the terrafugia and similar attempt.

  • @DanFrederiksen well we'll just have to disagree on our points. Believe it or not, but my concept does work, and at the moment I and IBM( not sure if you know them) are working on such a thing. So I have seen your designs and they "seem" to be interesting, I'm sorry but I think they're just going to stay on that website of yours for the rest of their life. So keep up the good work and if you want to really take your work further let me know and I'll get you in touch with the right people.

  • @Takshia89 I have no doubt your idea doesn't work and that's not meant as disparaging, just a matter of fact. but I'd like to see any website you may have with specifics about the project. or pictures of any tests you have done.

and what right people do you have in mind if any? VCs?

  • @DanFrederiksen well I'm not sure what facts you know, but I assure you that they are quite wrong. As I have mentioned I work with IBM and my VCs are people within IBM. Now, the fact of the matter is that as I am working with IBM, we are not simply going to put our work out in the open before anything has been finished. And you should now that. Now putting your work out there is great, but we are international company and we're not risking any thing. The CEO, CFO, and CIO are my people :)

  • @Takshia89 I know of the ducted type of windmill and you've explained the idea is to put such in the nose of the car. what is there to be secret about?

what do you mean by your people? you personally know the CEO of IBM?

  • Calling the car a wind powered car is totally misleading. It's an elecric car, with the intention of using wind sources to recharge the batteries.

  • i dont know why they didnt just start with a tesla roadster and just mod it. it woulda been way cheaper everything is already there. they arent puttin into production they just want prof of concept. sounds like a pr stunt to me but good luck anyway.

  • I am astounded by this! Are you guys completely in denial about the existence of the Tesla Roadster. Pretty much all of your claims have already been previously fulfilled by Tesla with their Roadster. Even to the extent of having a completely green powered car as they have sold a car to JUWI in Germany who are charging the car from green sources.

That said, I think you will probably achieve a fast car that will provide hours of fun at a very low impact to the environment.....good on ya!

  • I love how he doesn't have a doubt that this is 100% possible... That is exactly the kind of mind set that I think everyone should admire.

The best of luck to ecotricity and everyone behind this project and projects alike!

  • Jeremy Clarkson asked why the Brits can't seem to make cars anymore.

From leading the world, now reduced to re-badging some Indian car, good old British innovative know-how seemed to have vanished. The British automotive boffins in white coats had been captured like so many German rocket scientists and put to work in the dungeons of foreign Formula 1 teams

It's good to see them back in the shed doing what they do best.

    Brilliant work. Simply beautiful.

  • I am excited on where you guys are going! Keep up the hard work!

  • hey guys! i'm looking forward to see how it performs on the road!

    ALL THE BEST!!
