Why argue over who is better? I was too young to appreciate Carol king's genius at the right time, but after hearing Gloria's version of this song, I bought C.K.'s Tapestry album and absolutely adore it. Now i have a huge respect for both. Gloria was greatly influenced by Carol and Carol respects Gloria as a fellow song writer (VH1 Divas- they were fantastic together). They both compliment and influence one another. That's the beayty of music after all.

Gloria's voice is smoother though. And she doesn't insult the original by changing it too much. I think it's a perfect cover. And Gloria already proved herself as a creative artist prior to this cover, so this proves she is a versatile artist. I would marry her for her voice alone.

I like Gloria a lot but she needs to do her own songs. She`s another example how the music industry shuts out new songwriters. I heard a guy the other day here in New York city whose songs blew me away, and he told me he`s been trying for 10 years to sell a song but it`s all about who you know. Nobody will take a chance. Classic incredible song! However, this version by Gloria pales in comparison to the original from 1971 by the song's writer, the legendary Carole King.

For all you kids out there that don't know, Carol's original version spent 5 weeks at # 1 on The Billboard Hot 100 and also won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year.
