I have an android phone samsung moment. I have it with sprint I have 450 minutes for landlines. If I use google voice when I make call will it use my air time (450 minutes)? Is it like using voip where it is free? I have unlimited data and web and text. Just wondering. anyone?

@092884 If your cellphone service provider offers you numbers you can call for free then you just add the google voice number as one of the free numbers..then all the numbers who call your google voice number will be free if you answer your cell..just make sure your google voice number is set to show your google voice numer when your cell rings and not the other persons number...

The benefit of this is when you change your cell phone carrier/number but you have been giving people the google voice number instead you don't have to give everybody your new cell number because that cell can receive goole voice calls and SMS. So this number is the only number you're going to need for the rest of your life.

I don't see the usefulness of this app. I downloaded it, used it for an hour, then uninstalled it. I don't want all my phones to ring at once and wake up my child when I'm away from the house. I'm sure some will find this app useful but I'm a multitasking business fool and see no use for it.

@capitalismforever I don't think you have fully explored the app. You can choose which contacts will ring all phones. For example; Your children's Daycare might call if there is an emergency and you would want it to ring all your phones. However if an annoying person calls at night you can select their number to not ring any phones and go straight to voicemail before that call ever occurs. You can then read the voicemail in an email or text message to avoid waking your children up.

Even if you have one number, the Google voice is able to transcribe you voice mail into text and sent by email and/or SMS.

Yeah you can, you can manage what phones ring when certain people call, or mark annoying people as spam and it'll just put them towards voicemail.

It does, for a grp or an individual you can decide what phone they ring, all phones, or just some, no go straight to VoiceMail

The accuracy of text translation will improve over time and i dont think it was really that bad. I cant wait till google voice comes to the UK.. hopefully quite soon after it US launch.. well same year anyway lol

i thought the text transcribing thing did pretty damn well. You'd be surprised how much information is actually missing in spoken language; for instance, word boundaries are usually mentally inserted by the listener; that's why foreign languages sound like an endless stream of syllables. We also fill in missing information with assumptions about content and previous knowledge about context. So until the electronic google transcribers become self-aware (yikes), this is pretty damn good!

I like that they guy who did the demo didn't try to smooth over the terrible text messaging conversion. He said, it's good for telephone numbers and you can get the gist of it. Nice job Google. It looks good. I can't wait to try it. Upgrade my account already!
