thats pretty good and fast work..but seems like alot of in and out all the time,,id rather just stay on back and throw trash in a rearload or just drive..but at least with these vids the company cant say youre slackin..great vids..
Damn bro, how did big Jeff manage to get an automated route to pay less than msl? I guess he's smarter than I ever gave him credit for LOL. Derby went contract, that's wild. I lived in Haysville when I drove roll-off for WC, but I think it was before you came to work there. Anyways, great work as always. Jeff
Well actually that is typical for any ASL operation, they usually get paid less than their manual working colleagues because it is supposedly "easier". I'm almost sure though that it is going to be one big clusterf**k when this contract starts. It's going to be a difficult task to get those derby folks used to the new methods, which means lots of trouble for the driver.
I started back in March of 2003 after they bought out the company I used to work for, where you there then?
Maybe so, but it requires so much more effort to do it this way, I dont mind the hard work, but at the same time I'm thinkin about the future. If hauling trash is going to be the career I stick with until I retire (most likely it will be) then I cant run like this for another 20-30 years but...
automation would allow me to go until I'm old and senile haha!
I Thought that the City of Derby Kansas and their crazy dumb nut City Manager Saxon vs the multiple trash companies that are being force out of town is still tied up in the court system. because they are suing each other. That one reason I think That Goddard and other cities have not done it yet because there still waiting on the Courts ruling.
Yes, the city of Derby is being sued by a smaller trash company but they dont care, they have made their descision and the contract is still set to begin December 1st of this year.
The general consensus is that the lawsuit is pointless.
Well if your company does like ours the automated truck will steal all of your easy areas. Like retirement communities. If you get paid per house you check will quickly shrink .Go automated !
The two asl's we are getting will be exclusively for the one area of almost 8,000 homes, so their is no threat to my current route, which pays pretty damn good. I'm really intrigued by the idea of going automated but there is no way it will pay as good as what I make now so I'll probably stay where I am.
Personally I think you should keep your current route, specifically, the exercise you get on a daily basis is really good for you. The minute you do nothing but sit in a cab, you start to have to make it up elsewhere...
Seems to happen to me every time I get a desk job, like the one I've got now... I hate it, and wish I could keep my metabolism going just by working...
Yeah thats one of my main concerns. It's a double edged sword for sure, easier on the body but if you spend too much time sitting around eating donuts and cheetos, well, we all know what happens then!
I've already put on weight since I got married, even though I work harder than ever, so an ASL would most likely force me to go to the gym, wich doesnt appeal to me much.
Plus its looking like the money wouldnt be quite as good as what I'm bringin in now, so I think I'm gonna stay put.
Well... if you want my thoughts... trucks can be replaced when they break... so make sure you take care of yourself out there. If you think it's time to stop beating on your back... it's probably time to move on to ASL... besides... with the right operator, that claw can pick up almost anything. Besides, it will open up a new world of challenges to spice up your day. If the area hasn't been automated before - you might want to wait awhile though... until the customers figure out how it works.
There are currently 4-5 companies that operate in that town (around 8,000 homes), and everyone will have to get used to a new pickup day, new rules, etc.
I agree that going ASL offers new and interesting challenges, but if the pay isnt as good as what I'm making now (it probably wont be) then I'm not going to do it.
I think eventually we will all be automated but that might be years from now, its looking like I'm gonna stick with what I have at this point.
I think thats why the waste disposal industry is so fascinating to many of us, because there is so much variation in methods and equipment throughout the world.
