Wow happy birthday to a great jazz musician. I saw the original quartet in November 1964 at the City Hall in Newcastle U.K. His act was supported by the great Ronnie Scott and his ensemble. As a drummer and a great fan of Joe Morrelo it was without doubt the best show I've ever seen.
Just a question. Does Mr. John Faddis seems to have some gap in his fronth teeth, at 6:41, or is it just apparent? I just wanted to ask since I would think it would affect his embouchure, but obviously he has not a problem with it. Awesome musician.
Damn, this is a Patridge family that can actually play, LOL. Amazing. Always wondered why bass players are so akin to the trombone. I play bass but also loved, as a kid, the trombone, my favourite brass instrument. One of my bass teachers was also a symphonic trombonist, and here I see one of Brubeck sons who also plays the bass and the trombone. Wonder why that happens...
I have had the pleasure of seeing Dave Brubeck in person several times. He always had a big smile on his face. But never like the smile he has in this vid. He was simply the best.
wow im in my 20s i nvr took in jazz till i heard this wow absoultly wonderful ive gained so much more respect for jazz thank u for posting this and opening my ears to something so beautiful
Tres tres magnifique....this is truly a tribute to this great jazz maestro. This number has been my all time great since I started appreciating jazz since the early 80's in Goa, India. The group did full justice, and i liked the look on all the audience faces, n how they enjoyed this tribute. A standing salute' to this great jazzist.
I had tears in my eyes watching everything which was so beautiful. What a great moment for Dave Brubeck. For all the great things that happened in his life to have this great presentation of the culmination of his life must have felt wonderful. This really was an "awsome" display.
With so many groups and individuals who 'screw up' these Brubeck songs regularly, These guys got it right! and with Gusto and inventiveness due to the living legend himself. Wonderful! More!!!
What a great moment! Audience participation was interesting and inspiring, Loved watching Bruce Springsteen, Mel Brooks, and the Obama's and others getting their groove on. The arrangement and execution was spectacular, especially the drop into happy birthday. I'm sure there were some teary eyes on this one. Thank you Dave Brubeck for giving us something so special and distinguishably you. This is truly a great moment that everyone should experience. Thank you YouTube!
