  • Thank you so much for posting this; molto grazie.

  • everyone is bobbing their head

  • Wow happy birthday to a great jazz musician. I saw the original quartet in November 1964 at the City Hall in Newcastle U.K. His act was supported by the great Ronnie Scott and his ensemble. As a drummer and a great fan of Joe Morrelo it was without doubt the best show I've ever seen.

  • Holy moly... That was absolutely fantastic. FANTASTIC. I shed a tear or two after Dave saw his sons appear on stage. Magical.

  • Fantastic !

  • Just a question. Does Mr. John Faddis seems to have some gap in his fronth teeth, at 6:41, or is it just apparent? I just wanted to ask since I would think it would affect his embouchure, but obviously he has not a problem with it. Awesome musician.

  • @TheSRalston Most trumpeters say the gap in their two front teeth helps them a lot when playing the trumpet.

  • Great video!! the only thing I can´t understand why is Springsteen sitting there too...baffles me completely.

  • "Sunuvabitch," indeed! Had Miles still been around he might have said "motherfucker," but only if no one was watching him.

  • Happy birthday Mr Brubeck !!

  • Damn, this is a Patridge family that can actually play, LOL. Amazing. Always wondered why bass players are so akin to the trombone. I play bass but also loved, as a kid, the trombone, my favourite brass instrument. One of my bass teachers was also a symphonic trombonist, and here I see one of Brubeck sons who also plays the bass and the trombone. Wonder why that happens...

  • Splendid.

  • More like "blue rondo a la sexy"! Yeaaaaahh!!!

  • Lindo, lindo!

    Emocionante!

  • I grew up loving Dave Brubeck as a child-thanks to my father- and I still love him-he is one of the best.

  • What was the name of that third song?

  • @bryceep Blue Rondo A La Turk

  • Just love the joy showing on Mr. Brubeck's face!!

  • it's a fantastic video!!! God Bless Mr. Brubeck and jazz music!

  • awesome....a very moving tribute to this wonderful musician who brought so much happiness all over the world!

  • Please remember that although 'Take Five' was probably the Dave Brubeck ensemble's best-known work, it was composed by Paul Desmond, the saxophonist.

  • BRAVISSIMO!!!

  • Tres tres magnifique....this is truly a tribute to this great jazz maestro. This number has been my all time great since I started appreciating jazz since the early 80's in Goa, India. The group did full justice, and i liked the look on all the audience faces, n how they enjoyed this tribute. A standing salute' to this great jazzist.

  • superb

  • Wow...can anything top this? What an wonder honor.

  • So freaking good.

  • I had tears in my eyes watching everything which was so beautiful. What a great moment for Dave Brubeck. For all the great things that happened in his life to have this great presentation of the culmination of his life must have felt wonderful. This really was an "awsome" display.

  • Best Jazz presentation ever!

    Bravissimo!

  • uau!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • With so many groups and individuals who 'screw up' these Brubeck songs regularly, These guys got it right! and with Gusto and inventiveness due to the living legend himself. Wonderful! More!!!

  • ahh thats nice, he seemed proud n excited when he saw his sons

  • that was amazing!

  • What a great moment! Audience participation was interesting and inspiring, Loved watching Bruce Springsteen, Mel Brooks, and the Obama's and others getting their groove on. The arrangement and execution was spectacular, especially the drop into happy birthday. I'm sure there were some teary eyes on this one. Thank you Dave Brubeck for giving us something so special and distinguishably you. This is truly a great moment that everyone should experience. Thank you YouTube!

  • the notes the trumpet guy was hitting at 5:27 OMG!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Brilliant !!!!!!

  • 3:23

Announcer: "Ladies and Gentlemen, the four sons of Dave Brubeck."

Dave Brubeck: "Son of a bitch!"

  • @EraNue I bet he's like "What the fuck I got four sons?" lol.

  • @EraNue, your remark (3min26sec) seems perfect. Congratulations. It's all very funny.

  • Comment removed

  • @EraNue Well.. if it was said by anyone else would sound vulgar. But it comes from Dave Brubeck.. sounds really funny. He was surprised. Very nice video.

  • A tribute to the Master. An innovator for more than 70 years. What is there left to say about Dave Brubeck. We love you Dave, God Bless You.

  • Maravilhoso, músicas lindissimas

  • In Portuguese from Brazil:

Uma homenagem ao pianista, compositor e bandleader Dave Warren Brubeck. Do quinteto de jazz em destaque no vídeo fazem parte quatro filhos do homenageado. Reparem na cara de satisfação de Brubeck ao ver sua música executada com tanta competência pelos filhos. Na plateia, a presença do casal Obama.

    xF - Rio de Janeiro

  • THE BEST FOREVER!!!

  • made me cry, again.

glad they didn't edit out his four-word reaction to seeing his sons.

what a deeply nice group of people. so much for the myth that all great musicians must be bipolar.

  • seen it before, it still makes me cry! love the fact that they didn't cut out his mouthing "son of a b**!" when his sons unexpectedly appeared.

  • C'est magnifique!

    Wonderful!

    Belissimo!

    J.G.

  • Just great...

  • this is a great band (a bit depressing for me)...,

it feels so empty without paul

  • @machinsky108

Yes. The absence of Paul brought me tears.

  • Just amazing.

  • As a kid growing up in the UK in the 50's and 60's I was in awe of Brubeck. I had all his recordings and played all his pieces. I saw the UK final concert at the Royal Festival Hall. This video made me cry like a baby, with respect, memories, happiness, fond feelings for Dave and his family. I'm speechless....

  • Well he's Dave Brubeck, he deserved every second of the honor.

  • when i saw this my first expression was wat the hell..this is sooo beautiful..this is definitely under-rated music...this is the best..ever....Jazz at its best....damn...and ppl jus dont appreciate this..

  • I'm speechless, just speechless. *smile*

  • Thank you so much for posting this.

  • GOD BLESS HIS HEART , HE LOOKED SO PROUD WATCHING HIS SONS UP THERE.

  • There is something to be said of good Jazz music (or any good music at all) it brings a feeling of warmth to you and makes you smile, it tells a story without words. I am truly happy that I had the chance to catch the Kennedy Center Honors this year, the honored some amazing people.

  • Mr. Brubecks expression when his son's were announced was sooooo wonderful! So jazzy sweet!

  • A couple of questions for you jazz afficienados out there: The trumpeter (who's amazing!) has a mishaped front tooth. I've heard that sometimes trumpeters do that to let the air whistle thru for those high, notes. I was wondering if that was true? Also, isn't Take 5 considered by many to be thee greatest jazz piece of all time? Don't know much about jazz; just like listening to it.

  • Justíssima homenagem a essa lenda viva!

  • saxes out of tune

  • Dave Brubeck such a sweet man and magnificent musican!!!

  • Just my opinion, but if more people listened to jazz instead of rap, this world would be a much better place.

  • @HeyMrKong33 That is rather subjective and opinionated. Thank god for jazz though.
