Normally I bag pretty hard on slideshows but this one was pretty good. I'm not a metal ballad guy either but that song worked well. Who doesn't love Kolchak? The pilot and vampire episode set new audience records in their day. The sign of real pro is someone who can carry a bad script and he about broke his back on some of those NightStalker scripts! Half of them brilliant and the other half crap but all loveable. RIP DMcG! You were loved.
Thank You...this was beautiful.............and the movie with Mako (wonderful actor) was called "The Challenge". It took me 20 years to get a copy. It was the very first of the 70's Movie of the Week series.
omg at 4:34 he's in a pic with MAKO... japanese actor of Conan the Barbarian, Hawaii 5-0 and Avatar: Last Airbender fame. Rest in Absolute Peace, both of you.
Hands down one of my favorite TV actors. I'm watching the Night Stalker series on Netflix. He had an incredible range and though he didn't often play bad guys, when he did it was bone-chilling. What a great performer and one of those guys I never heard anyone say a bad word about. RIP and God Bless You, Mr. McGavin!
I just got a bit choked up myself. In 2006 Hollywood lost one of it's truly greatest actors ever. Darren McGavin touched my heart and so many others -that it is impossible to put into words how much of a loss his passing was and is.
It is truly a great joy to see him in so many of his great works, not the least of which remains to be "A Christmas Story".
An excellent labor of love, and a wonderful choice of music.
Not many people realize that he was in the pilot episode of the SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN as Steve Austin's creator who finances the bionic project...in 1973
He done this episode while still doing the Night Stalker..
BaronVonBlixberg, thanks for posting this photo collection of my dad, stretching from his early TV work up to the picture of him and his wife, Kathie Browne, taken shortly before he passed.
Your Dad was always one of my favoritges when i was growing up,and he still is,although mos of my exposure to him earlier in life was from his Night Stalker days.
It made me look for more of his work in other films and TV,and i enjoy those now as well.
Only Darren McGavin could get away with telling Vincent Price''Shut up,ya old fart!'',as he did in the film Dead Heat.
Your Dad was truly one of a kind, and he is sorely missed.
EXCELENTE VIDEO. Muy recordado en todos los idiomas, la musica y las peliculas no tienen fronteras y el aprecio tampoco, gracias por compratir esta joya del cine y permitir conocerlo un poco mas.
You did a beautiful job with this tribute! I really enjoyed seeing the collection of photo's you gathered. He was a wonderfully talented actor- such personality is a rare thing. He is greatly missed! Thankfully he left behind a great wealth of memories for us all to enjoy!
He was great. Are looking fot the title theme music of Darren McGavin's "The Outsider" Character. Great TV-Show once. Thx for upload this bautiful Video! 5*****
@madpuppy1000 THE OUT SIDER WAS ANOTHER GREAT SERIES CANCELED AFTER ONLY ONE YEAR ITS NOT ON DVD YET MAYBE SOON WHAT EVER MR.MCGAVIN DID WAS GREAT WISH THAT MIKE HAMMER SERIES WAS ON DVD ALSO HE WAS THE BEST MIKE HAMMER EVER
How soon we forget the unsung heroes. Thank you so much for this. Perhaps you can help me find an old episode of Mike Hammer; I was very young when the program aired. What I remember is the scene when Hammer catches up with a bad guy in an old barn and knocks him out in a fist fight. Not able to restrain him with a rope he nails his hand to the floor. McGavin WAS Mike Hammer.
Damn you! You just made me cry a little bit. I koved that man. As a kid I always looked forward to anything he acted in. The Kolchak Tapes was my favorite TV show. He was a truely great Hollywood actor. God rest his soul.
@BaronVonBlixberg I loved him in 'Kolchak' and he always brought something special to the party. Just been catching some Mike Hammers but what was the clip in the middle of him and his erstwhile boss Tony Vincenzo taken from, he looks far too smart to be Kolckak!

Darren McGavin and Robert Culp, my two favorite TV actors of all time. Both tragically underrated and sadly unsung.
