honestly, the reason they dont want people putting weights down hard and such is that it could possibly damage the equipment or the floor if its a barbell. its also a potential safety hazard in that if you damage the equipment, and someone else comes and uses the same machine later, the machine could have something go wrong and it could injure the person.
planet fitness is a very very very mean place. it's made to make ppl that dont really work out and dont look good feel better about themselves. humans are so terribly judgmental. such a shame. there is nothing wrong with ppl that body build or are VERY serious about their bodies.
While the commercials are a bit demeaning, I think that they are intended to be a joke. They are in poor taste and do put forth a negative stereotype concerning bodybuilders. However I do have to say that while I admire bodybuilders and follow the IFBB, I don't aspire to that level. I am 35 and I missed the boat. Planet Fitness has been a great place for me to workout. I pay 10 bucks a month, and I am not under any contract. It is also the cleanest place in which I have ever worked out.

planet Fitness promotes stupidity in mind and in working out. Instead of carb drinks or protien drinks, they sell Diet coke(aspertame in diet coke causes blind, def, altzimers, cancer, etc..)and stupid "american" drinks. I quite after 3 months yesterday when I went to do my bench presses and they were gone. I was like what happened to the bench presses? They said they're gone. I said why? They said corporate policy. I said I am cancelling my membership.
@ryansahs All the Golds Gym's in my state are closing because no one wants to go to them. They used to be the go to gym but, they went south ALONG time ago.

It is a wonderful, stress free gym where i dont have to worry about people looking at me funny, other people grunting and dropping weights trying to look better than everyone else. like i said quit bitching about the gym, if you dont like it go somewhere else and work out.

I think it is silly that an alarm goes of, but the alarm isn't going off if a weightlifter walks by, the alarm goes off if someone is slamming weights around. Remember, casual gym = don't throw weights. This isn't difficult

For one, you begin by saying, "I know every gym has their own clientele that they market to," and how they shouldn't all be towards heavy lifters or serious athletes. I have belonged to our local planet fitness for a couple of years now. I just came across the commercials and find them rather offensive. I use to train for powerlifting and martial arts. The grunt or strong release of air that causes sound is a good way to create more force during an action. I know that there are many people that just want to trim up and improve overall health and others that want to build muscle and strength. I think it is wrong to characterize them as stupid.
Used to go to powerhouse gym. Everytime some lunk started to yell at the weight he was lifting I was put in danger from dropping the weight I had due to my laughter. PF I go to is totally cool. Most of the younger people in there are involved in rowing (biggest HS sport in michigan) , baseball, football, etc.. I know the element that PF wants to avoid and I know the element doesn't understand why they are free to take their buisness elsewhere.

I worked at a planet fitness in miami after working at a Gold's gym and let me tell you the No judgement Zone is BS, because the the staff in that place is always judging all the members. By far Planet fitness is the worst gym I have ever been apart of

I'm not even close to being a body builder, but I didn't even realize that gyms were doing that to people. Yeah, people can be jerks and grunt loudly and drop weights for attention, but to call names and have an alarm going off to shame them (more annoying than the grunting)... that is totally stereotyping and abusing an entire group of people. They're not born that way but, like you said, if they were something else, like overweight, I think more people would be outraged.

What I hear is a 5:53 min whinge, every person that signs up knows what the intended atmosphere is and what the rules are, they shouldn't be surprised or angry when faced with the ramifications of breaking them. I drop weights sometimes while sitting on the bench because if I put them down the normal way I would feel like I am somewhat crippling my self. That gym needs help.
This is just wrong on Planet Fitness's half. I took a free tour yesterday and I was somewhat enjoying then out of nowhere I saw that sign. I respect the idea of respecting people at the gym. When I saw that Lunk Alarm as they called it I said in my head that can not be real. Then I asked the guy what it was then he said funny you should ask. That alarm is gonna get them sued one day. Snore.... funny to see people who can bench 400 and still get their feelings hurt so much by so little. Planet Fitness isn't discriminating against weightlifters, they are simply telling people that it is a low stress, more casual work out environment.
I think it is silly that an alarm goes of, but the alarm isn't going off if a weightlifter walks by, the alarm goes off if someone is slamming weights around. Remember, casual gym = don't throw weights. This isn't difficult

I have belonged to our local planet fitness for a couple of years now. I just came across the commercials and find them rather offensive. I use to train for powerlifting and martial arts. The grunt or strong release of air that causes sound is a good way to create more force during an action. I know that there are many people that just want to trim up and improve overall health and others that want to build muscle and strength. I think it is wrong to characterize them as stupid.

Used to go to powerhouse gym. Everytime some lunk started to yell at the weight he was lifting I was put in danger from dropping the weight I had due to my laughter. PF I go to is totally cool. Most of the younger people in there are involved in rowing (biggest HS sport in michigan) , baseball, football, etc.. I know the element that PF wants to avoid and I know the element doesn't understand why they are free to take their buisness elsewhere.

I'm not even close to being a body builder, but I didn't even realize that gyms were doing that to people. Yeah, people can be jerks and grunt loudly and drop weights for attention, but to call names and have an alarm going off to shame them (more annoying than the grunting)... that is totally stereotyping and abusing an entire group of people. They're not born that way but, like you said, if they were something else, like overweight, I think more people would be outraged.

This is just wrong on Planet Fitness's half. I took a free tour yesterday and I was somewhat enjoying then out of nowhere I saw that sign. I respect the idea of respecting people at the gym. When I saw that Lunk Alarm as they called it I said in my head that can not be real. Then I asked the guy what it was then he said funny you should ask. That alarm is gonna get them sued one day. Then they fussed at me for using a bar and 400-500 lbs for shrugs. "Our clients use dumbells". You have to use 500 lbs beccause the traps have a lot of leverage

@Htown20XX I'm always way more powerful in a push down than a shrug. You know, a locked arm dip motion. I can't do close to 500lb in either though lol. I could probably almost do a 500lb calf raise though if it didn't squash the crap out of my shoulders.
