  • This song is one of those handfull of gems that almost has no peer. I defy anyone to listen to it closely, and walk away without it still in you head. Only the Beatles could cast such a spell on such a wonderful song. The lead guitar break is infectous by any standard. Why is Steve NOT in the Hall of Fame? Those assholes did the same thing to Alice Cooper. Try and tell me that Steve Miller didn't leave his mark on R&R, after nearly 5 decades. There should be a more bonified HOF created.

  • The original is better. This version is way over-crowded.its still ok.

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!

  • Steve at his best. Innocent lyrics, Hopeful message, and some VERY sweet guitar. The radio all but neglected this catchy tune. It put Steve out there again where he belonged, But it all but disappeared, in a matter of weeks. Great audio on this post.

  • God I totally remember this song - I like this extended version

  • This song fits Miami vice 200 %

  • I love the ambient feel this song has!!!

  • Which album is the extended version on?

This is definately one of the greatest rock songs ever.

  • Before I go to your page:

    I am a DIE"NEVER" STEELER FAN-the only thing im a fan of.

I grew up in NYC and MIAMI.

I had this record. It is one of the best songs ever made. I tell people under, say, about 29 years old these days, "There was a song I used to play before I went to the Army, before I went to the Academy, Before 'she' died.......I got that song in my head brother.

    steeler1979....youre the best..thanks.

    I am SLOAN

  • Goddamn if that isnt MIAMI VICE what is!.... thanks alot pal.

  • Thanks for the post been looking for this for ages ,,,what happened to the music industry ,,and etc ,,,even the cool white chicks we had ,,even the cool cops ,,

  • gangster of love tour i was so buzzed the stagelights would rotate back under and up again everytime he said make your world turn around.... pretty awesome i can still remember that it was GREAT!!!! ty sm den

  • I think he had a great great voice....

his guitar is sooo cool , but his voice - perfect!!!!!!

  • One of my all time faves from The Steve Miller Band. I wish they still made rock music like this today. Many of you would agree.

  • @rushv33 oh yeah, my kind of music, I just can't stop listenning to it, great song

  • I've not heard of this song before but now I have and I think it is amazing!!!

  • 2:52 sit back, go back, re-live the awesome that was Steve Miller

  • thank you

  • It DOESN"T get any better than this song... period.

  • Thank you for the post "steeler1979" One great song, just never heard this version before. AWESOME!

  • Amazing...Never knew that this version existed! Peace & Love & Light always...

  • takes me back to a time sitting cross legged on the floor of my bedroom in total darkness wearing ovation phonics headphones my face occasionally lit by the red ember of a zig zag as i inhaled

  • Do ANY Steve Miller songs get any better than this? Oh HELL NO!!! Steve Miller for President!!

  • What a song....! Song itself is brilliant, but when used for Miami Vice, it became even cooler! Best Series ever, with best Music ever! :-)

  • This is typical for Steve,an absolutely killer song that commercial radio never got.If you think this is good, check out "Italian X Rays".I hate to say it but the general public is responsible for what makes it and what doesn't. Thankfully,I never was part of the "General public" nor do I care to be !!! They don't get this,They wouldn't know a good mix if it pulled their mama's shirt off and they wouldn't know good stereo if it didn't have at least 15 LED's on it that did nothing!!! Go Figure.

  • I forgot about this one. Great track. I liked his more obscure album cuts. I had his Anthology album. Thanks for the memory.

  • Takes me right back to my teens in the 80's ... hot summer nights ... say no more!

  • I feel like the guitar riff was definately taken from Bad Co.'s Rock and Roll Fantasy. It fits perfectly.

  • Great song, have not heard it ages. Had the album too.

  • steve if you're reading this, tap into this type of material again, put out another album that rivals this material. that will make us all turn around..

  • Come One Stevie - please, give us one more originals album - forget the record exec.'s - do it your way guitar miller - make us turn around

  • to me Steve miller's mainstream stuff wasn't that great, until you get into the albums more and that's when you get to the great songs of his that didn't get air play if you liked this song he has more songs like this in his earlier albums in the mid to late '70's and early '80's if i had to pick a song i couldn't they all are that good.

and giving you a thumbs up steeler.

  • I hate most of Steve Millers overated drivel but this song is brilliant. Apparantly Kenny G played sax on this.

  • Apparantly none other than Kenny G on sax. Wierd. I hate most of Steve Millers stuff but this song is spectacular

  • Steve Miller is so underated. I'ts no wonder, if I had to listen to "big old jet airliner" one more time, I'd be sick. But the best stuff is in the albums that never got any airplay. What a shame. Music comes and goes so fast, but much of the best lies under the surface.

  • I like this song, sounds good and clear too, thank you for this video clip of this song, I have not heard this since the 80's

  • in my view, this is perhaps steve miller's best song. The sax is awesome!!

  • awesome song. i think if you are listening to it, you are already a better person. and yea... steve miller 4 president yo.

  • I love this song!

Listen to the message. Brilliant, Mr. Miller. Simply brilliant.

Why can Gaga, Spears, et. el. can get millions of hits, but this outstanding tune only has ~ 7,000!

    Where's the justice?

  • I kinda wished this song was our national anthem. It's such a great song and has such a great message.

  • Someone should send this song to our President and his Speaker of the House to listen to. Steve Miller for President!!!!!!

  • just great

  • There's NO reason this song shouldn't be played on classic rock radio stations. Instead you get "Jet Airliner," "Rock'n Me." "Fly Like an Eagle" and "Swingtown" over and over.

  • @Towncrier123

yeaaaa I agree with you on this....you never hear this song on the radio,...wait....do we "still listen to the radio" ???......

  • @Towncrier123

there's one station i listen to - commercial free - that plays classic album rock like this and they play this song often - more than any of his other stuff as they're into more b sides and rarely played material

it's KYEN 103.9 fm in colorado or rock the rock the rockies dot com on the internet.

  • the best song ever!

  • Comment removed

  • That's because the sax is none other than Kenny G

  • I love the sax at 2:53 - 3:10 it almost makes me want to cry :'(

  • The fist time I heard this song was during Miami Vice movie...wanderful ..just days ago I bought the LP "Living in the 21st century" awsome!

  • Great song! Love it! Been sitting here for about 40 minutes now and I just keep on hitting the "Replay" button.

Never did care much for sax, but in this song it is absolutely stunnig!

  • Amazing song! Loved this song when it came out and it is still timeless!

  • Classic, classic SMB!!! The sax in it just takes your breath away. Never heard this longer version and it is incredible! Thanks so much for sharing it. Whatta treat!

  • This was a stand a lone tune long before Miami Vice. It's too bad pop radio never got it. On of the best SM tunes ever.

  • @williepright Unfortunately, when this song came out, if memory serves, the pop world didn't want it because Madonna, Prince and all that stuff was starting to take most by storm and this tune got buried. I've always liked this song. I believe his song "abracadabra" also came out in this album. The pop world liked that one more, but I didn't. I don't like that tune very much...

  • @williepright At least it got on his Greatest Hits (Young Hearts, not '74-'78.)

  • @williepright I Agree!! There are at least THREE different release versions of this. My original 45RPM don't have the sax intro.

  • The sax kicks ass in this song :}>

  • MIAMI VICE!

  • SMB is my favorite band. Cool to hear a extended version of this awsome song:)

  • This song is so awesome. I wish it was heard by more people.

  • I loved this back then but was underplayed and not appreciated

  • Check on that Dude. You had to buy the album. Radio only plays what it want's to. The best stuff lies under the surface

  • right at 3:56, where the sax rips that note......gives me chills.

  • I've dug this tune since it first came out, and yes, it's tragic that so many great songs, like this, never got the exposure it so deserves.....but that's show biz in America.

  • Great version of a great song! If you haven't heard the Steve Miller Live! CD that came out around 1983, get it ASAP. It was recorded it Detroit and the band and the audience were awesome!

  • A Masterpiece, Enough Said !!!!!

  • I've only heard this song a few times when it first came out and this is the first time hearing it since. Thanks for posting

  • Almost forgot about this song until I heard it on a Miami Vice rerun a couple months ago. What a great tune!! Man I miss the 80's..............

  • this is superb on headphones really loud lol whats that i cant here you !!!!!

  • sweeeeet

  • Erinnnert mich sehr an Miami Vice...man wie ich die Serie liebe, und die Musik dabei, besser gehts nich!

Reminds me of Miami Vice..great show, great music!

  • Great song, great lyrics, great version, I think this song is one hidden Classic from the 80's,,,,,Thnks for post.

    JackStarkey from Brazil!

  • You're so right dude, one of so many cool tunes that never got any airplay. Damn that pop radio.

  • 100% agree - best song of Steve Miller (in my opinion) :-)

  • das beste Lied von Steve Miller ; .. für meinen Geschmack auf jeden Fall

  • what rubiodergrausame is saying in German is:

"the best song of Steve Miller; . for my taste anyway"

rubiodergrausame I wholeheartedly agree! Thanks for watching!

  • Thanks for translating! This, Jet Airliner, and The Joker are his best, but this one is the #1 best. My favorite band!! And im only 14! xD
