  • i dont find im openly depressed with it. but i find i have a mega short fuse, i.e tiny things make me angry, and i find if something has gone wrong i blow it out of proportion, which is the complete opposite of how i used to be.

  • I used to be a happy go lucky guy. i took Accutane for just 2 weeks, now 4 months off iti have major anxiety, derealization and for the most part can't find joy in life. Im only 16 and swear il never be happy again. Please don't take this medication, why on earth would you risk your health for a perfectly normal natural cause, Acne will be the last thing on your mind if you taker this garbage

  • I do not suffer from depression. My brother took Accutane with no negative side effects; it completely cleared his skin! However, when I started the drug, I felt like crying a lot and had a sense of hopelessness. I told this to my derm. and she immediately told me to stop taking Accutane. Fortunately, the depression symptoms went away immediately. But just a warning to anybody out there...there is DEFINITELY a connection between Accutane and depression because I haven't had it before or since.

  • @benkaspick did your acne come back? my depression isnt that bad but i would hate the idea of it sticking around once i had finished the programme, so wondering whether to nip it at the bud and stop before it becomes more permanent?

  • @stubertos Last time was only like a week. I tried it again in December and lasted only 1.5 months b/c of depression/anxiety but I've been off for a month and my skin got pretty clear and remains so!

  • @stubertos Most of the depression and anxiety went away after 10-14 days but some has lingered. In case of this I strongly recommend seeing a doctor or psychiatrist. You don't have to do it alone!

  • The fag or should i say maggot is probably getting paid to make them look good.It got rid of a freind's of mine acne..Problem is this person will probably never have a normal life again!!What's the trade off here well the acne is gone and so is my mind and over all health. My advise do not use it,I hope the assholes selling it-Prescribing it get sued to the point they decide to take there own life's.It really sucked watching my freinds demise!!I DO NOT TAKE THIS!!

  • it made my brother commit suicide dont use it !!!!!!!!

  • dude wat u said is 100% true...i kind of xperienced everything.severe depression, mental illness, ocd ,vision prblm, hair loss..now im okay but my depression is still very severe.some times i want kill my self, some times i feel im having symptons of mentally chalanged ppl sometimes gay, sometimes impotent, some times erection prblm itz been 1 year im dealing with this ppls guys help me

  • Um dude, it works on the endocrine system and what does that system do to hormones? What happens when hormones go out of whack? It just effects people differently.

  • People just fall back on accutane as an excuse for all the 'problems' that occur while theyre on the treatment. The idea of accutane ACTUALLY causing suicide hasnt been proven. Just reports. Maybe the idea of people using the drug and it not working instantaniously like a 'magic pill' as some users may have mistakenly thought of it as being has perhaps caused the depression as they thought maybe it was their last hope and it not working made them lose hope.

  • i just had a retarded ass crying spell and daydreamed [didnt really want to] about suiside. BEEN YEARS SINCE IVE CRIED LIKE THAT OR HAD THOSE THOUGHTS. family said theyve noticed me bitchier. when i was young i had moderate depression. so accutane is probably effecting me more. yay. if i start seriously considering suicide or hurting myself i freakin hope im in my right mind enough to call someone.

  • I am currently considering going on Accutane and the thing is if 4% of people kill themselves i honestly dont care. If your a happy person and you go on accutane u most likely wont try anything! i've heard from so many people who say that it changed their lives, cleared their skin and theyare happy. ndr7830 how dare you sit here and try to preach to people. like u know more because u were on it for months? your one person, your not even 1%. your problem is insignificatn, and it could still work.

  • it definitely makes me 100x more depressed. undoubtedly.

  • Been off this drug over 3 years and every day I want to kill myself.

  • Oh my god, I'm sorry! I am on my last month of accutane and I'm bipolar as hell. It makes me manic/depressed as hell if i don't smoke weed. I sure hope it goes away after treatment!!!

  • That's so sad. Supposedly it kills the serotonin/dopamine producing cells. I hope you somehow get better.

  • There is no way that is true...

  • the time for this toxin on the market is approaching it's end

  • There is no objective truth to find out if accutane has helped or done substantial harm to a lot of young people. No post-marketing study has been done to evalute this. What there is, is a quite happy company selling it, and quite happy dermatologists getting appointments. The opinions of the patients are not yet measured.

I guess that somewhere when the drug is removed, or in the years after that, when profit allready is maximized, then, maybe a post-market study will be done.

  • Doctors have said that there is no corellation between depression and suicide and accutane. Just circumstancial evidence. Accutane is great!

  • No more research is needed! Accutane can cause psychiatric and neurological reactions, and they can be permanent, just like Accutane's other side effects. Accutane is used for high-risk brain cancer (neuroblastoma ) ! The drug is non-selective and has the ability to kill off healthy serotonin and dopamine producing cells in the brain. Dan, no offense but please become more informed with the toxicity of vitamin A ( Accutane) , depression, and suicide!

  • JUST GREAT!, YAY NO MORE RESEARCH IS NEEDED JUST CUS A BUNCH OF HIGH PROFILE PEOPLE GOT PHYSCOLOGICAL PROBLEMS WHILE ON IT!, AND CAUSE THE PAPERS SAID SO!, fuck me, you're so guillable. These problems you're describing are extremely rare, the only reason why everybodys acting like you about accutane because it's been over perpetuated in the news. Fuck you, fuck lawyers and most importantly fuck the news.

  • You're a fool. The news has done the completely opposite. they have UNDER perpetuated all the disastrous side effects from accutane. the pharma companies own the media

  • No you are, the percentage of people who take accutane who get physcological problems is less than 4%, you know how small that figure is?, it's not even worth worrying about, and yet the media reports on accutane as if it causes physcological problems 90% of the time, the media makes money of reporting things of which happen rarely, if it reported on how often things happen people would get bored and they'd lose money. You're the fool because you buy into this notion the media sell to you.

  • couple that with all the delibrate lies the media have told, and how they've distorted and left out information valid to the cause.

  • On the tretinion pamphlet Roche themselves state a 15% incidence of depression, with this knowledge this is exactly what 40 mg of isotretinion converts into! Let's take a look here, if you look at the grand scheme of things even 4% is alot. 13 million people have taken accutane, 4% of 13 million = 520 000

4% is still a considerable number, let's not forget the severe physical side effects either

  • The pamphlet on my box isoteretinoin reads at 4%, and these many different types of depression, some as a surface type depression and then extreme depression which results in suicidal tendancies. If they're talking about depression being 15% I cant imagine it's suicidal depression. I myself am on Accutane, and sometimes I feel depressed, but not to the point where I'd EVER want to kill myself.

  • Also in the last point you made you kinda defeated yourself, because you stated 500,000 as a big number, but it's not actually that big when you put it with a number as big as 13 million. So in retrospect you're actually showing that accutane does'nt cause depression for the large majority of people.

  • I never said it causes it for the majority of the people. But 500,000 should be enough for accutane to be removed from the market. Again on the Roche pamphlet they state ' Discontunian of accutane therapy may be insufficient' and a anti depressant may be needed. Accutane can be justified for patients dying of cancer and MAYBE patients suffering from severe acne, but other then that it should not be used. Do you have severe acne?

  • Yerr dude, but 500,000 is nothing compared to 13 million thats what you have to understand. I don't have widespread acne, or joined together acne, but when I get spots they tend to be big painful cysts. I don't really care about what people think of my face, but when you get cysts on your back it's very painful at night to sleep so that's why I started taking accutane. I do see your point about depression though.

  • But hey, it gets rid of acne :)

  • I took Accutane for four months. I was supposed be on it for five, but my dermatologist made me stop. No matter what all the studies show, I KNOW that accutane is highly correlated with suicide and depression. I've always been a happy person, but almost three months into Accutane, I just kept feeling sad. I'd wake up every morning sad to be alive. I'll admitt, I even was slightly suicidal. After being off Accutane for a month, I was back to my normal, happy self. They're correlated.

  • were u on a high dosage?

  • Comment removed

  • You're so biast, accutane only causes depression in less 4% of people who take it.

  • You clearly don't know what correlated means. Look it up. I said it was related, not that every person who uses Accutane will kill themselves.

And please learn how to spell... I'm not "biast" against Accutane, but I am biased towards people who don't know what they're talking about.

  • I know what correlated means you fucktard, and quiet frankly anything can be correlated with anything these days, so that's why I'm not buying your correlated bullshit.

Does it really matter how I spell?, It just demonstartes how sad you are as to scroll through my arguement and knit pit spelling mistakes to try and make your tacky outdated arguement look good. Oh and it's your lucky day as I'm on ACCUTANE right now, so I guess I do know what I'm talking about. Fuck off ;)

  • You're currently taking Accutane? Well I guess that explains the obvious mental issues you're going through. Maybe it's time you stop taking it.

And excuse me Mr. " I'm on ACCUTANE right now, so I guess I do know what I'm talking about," but I was on Accutane for four months. Maybe I know a little something too.

  • I'm not a quitter, I'm going to see through my course, and maybe if people like you would shut up and actually acknowledge the fact that accutane/ depression link is rare and does'nt happen in most people then maybe roche would'nt of pulled it off the market. Learn this, accutane is a drug, and just like drugs it has side affects, ever read the rare side affects of some common everyday drugs?, please go ahead and do so, the fact of the matter is it works for 80% of people, end of.

  • I'm not arguing with you anymore. It's basic brain chemistry, I'm a nursing student, and science doesn't lie. Accutane affects the way serotonin relays signals between neurons in the brain. Decresed serotonin levels, as we all know, leads to psychiatric problems including depression. It also affects dopamine levels. It's science. Have you're opinion, but that's all it is.

  • I'm not saying that does'nt happen, stop trying to put words in my mouth, I'm saying that the incidence of that happening in most people is rare.

  • it also causes crohns disease, and various optic nerve diseases
