IPSC has categories for practical shooting tourneys...that includes the caliber and type of gun that a shooter in his category must use...if you belong to the professional categories...all gun calibers are .45's...and triggers, recoil springs, stabilizers, and compensators are modified for speed and accuracy. after all this is sport shooting and not defense shooting.

Polish the feeding ramp, alter the mags if they are giving trouble, make sure your sights are sighted in, make sure you have no cracks or odd things on your ammo, make sure the gun is clean, hell the list goes on, guns can fail end of story you have to keep them clean and dry not to mention you have to check your ammo (this is very important if you reload your own ammo). Some handguns are picky on what brand of ammo they will cycle, this is not the movies gun can mess up if you tune/clean them.

The Mk23 is an absolute monster. Terrible bulk and ergonomics. I think it'd be about the worst gun you could use for competition, in terms of high cap autoloading .45.

Yeah, though that's what happens sometimes when you mod a gun poorly, use bad ammo or reloads, or don't maintain it well. It's things that no handgun are immune to. Even a revolver can jam if you use bad ammo or don't take care of it.

Most jams in competiton postols usualy happen from worn out magazine springs, that is why you see the guy dump the mag, then load another, if not it can be from using reloaded amo that has been reloaded too many times, and has swelled enough it will not go into the chamber, other than that it would be worn spring in the firing pin. Check amo first, mag next, loading 1 less than capacity will prevent chances of misfeed greatly and lenghtnen the life of the mag.

Para makes a double stack 1911 in 9mm. I think the body isnt as wide as the .45 models. But its great when you have a stock single stack 1911 shooting 230gr .45acp and you beat someone with a high cap 9mm. Ive done it a few times...;)

I always tell people to take good care of their weapons no matter how big or small it is. Always take care of it because it will save your life one day.
