Why not play a game for just 1 or 2 years where the best player is not only determined by endless 6-12 hours a day practicing, but also the ability to pick up the game fast, naturally feel which units and strategies work out the best. Besides the game will actually be fun to play. After a year only the competition will keep you going. The freshness and most of the funness of the game will be gone.

Sure if you study the game so much you will get a bit better but the best players are really good because of endless practice especially in the long run... It`s still a fairly simple game to anyone who`s used to RTS. Unless you really play in tournaments and the competition is so cool, I think it`s just too simple and repetitive to spent years playing...
