Maybe the italian singer is better (but I love Butler's voice) But, really, the lyrics are creepy, trust me (I'm italian) they're turning that song in a nosense D:

"Listen to the music of the night" ---> "The night is a sweet music for us"

"purge your thoughts of the life you knew before" ---> "I'll set fire to your dreams to save you" NOSENSE, really.

Yes, he's better than Butler but that's not hard to achieve and yes, I saw the 25th broadcast. IMO too many compromises were made for the venue. Having seen Panaro in NYC, I can't help but be disappointed. This spectacle lacked the charm, magic and intimacy of the theater. I'll just have to save up for a trip there occasionally for as long as the show runs there. It's a shame a lot of young people will never see the original/best production.

The interesting part, is that Italian is the traditional language for Opera. He sounds like Gerdad, but unlike Buttler, this guy is a singer, which makes him better. (I also like Buttler but, he's not a singer really)

I can't believe with all the wonderful Italian singers out there, this is the one they picked for the movie. Than again,they couldn't pick some who sounds better than Butler. Sure, this is true to the movie but THAT'S THE PROBLEM.

I enjoy the movie, but I could pick 100 singers that sound better than Butler. Pretty much any broadway/west end phantom actually.

I was trying to say they had to pick someone no better than Butler so Butler wouldn't look worse than he is His voice is terrible as I've stated dozens of times on YT; he ruined the movie. I've been personally slammed for saying so. My life's dream is that they release a vid of ANY stage POTO. Crawford is my fav, followed by Warlow, Owen-Jones, Gillam & Panaro but I love them all. Just check out my comments on other POTO clips. Hope I cleared this up

@forgottenbeauty2 this is one of the things that make me proud to be italian, we can dubb better then other countries and maintaining the "will" of the original actor/singer. I thinks it one of the most important things in a movie, to respect the interpretation, not everyone do it. And sometimes our dubbs make men actors sound sexier (patrick dempsey for example: the first time I listened to his real voice I was so disappointed!)

I like the Italian version as much as the French one (the OST French one) because they both flow in a way that allows the song to flow well. Both are very musical languages, and the translations for both are also more beautiful than the English lyrics. Face it, English just can't compare with some romance languages.

Michael Crawford his version is too, girly. His high pitch singing doesn't make me melt but cringe. gayish.

Gerard butler was definitally the harshest voiced Phantoms i've heard, I prefer Erik with a Still Powerful but less rough voice....

Luca has a VERY similar voice to Butler, but without the harshness which is very nice.... <3 But Micheal Crawford = still best phantom in my book
