Funk is more about rhythm not the notes you are playing. Anyone can play a group of notes but to play the complex timings such as this guy is performing is the real skill. And just for the record most funk is based on the Blues scale anyway.

Smokin!! Cool solo. Ive just bought a RD-170 (cant make out what model yours is), and Ive layered up 2 clav sounds and put that through a wah wah pedal. What set up are you using to get that sound ? Is it straight from the keyboard, or processed ?

Thanks matt. That's an RD-600 in the video with the "phase clav" patch I think they call it. Straight from the keyboard as is. I think the effect (phase) level is set to around halfway and both the effect knobs (speed and depth) turned to around 9 o'clock. EQ knobs: Low 3 o'clock, Mid 3 o'clock, High 9 o'clock.

Your wah wah pedal set-up is the more "classic" clav sound - and a GREAT sound at that.
