This is by no means perfect but definitely the best "Fix" on here. I managed to play until 2nd gym before receiving any crashes. After that the game will crash every 15-20 minutes so be sure to save and re-open the emulator. The action replay code is next to useless as its not required to play the game and will not fix the freezes throughout. If you can be patient and save the game every 10 mins this is the best fix around. Unless somebody can show me 100% no freeze fix.

Ugh. Don't save the settings so Reset/Startup point is GBA BIOS (Nintendo logo). It makes it so whenever you try to boot a game up, it just comes up with a crash error message and you can't edit the settings while that message is showing, and as soon as you click OK you can't access the emulation settings because the window closes. Had to reinstall No$GBA to get it back to default settings.

Step-by-step fix:

1. Aquire Nintendo DS. (Lite works best)

2. Aquire flash cart. (M3, R4, etc, buy cheap from DealExtreme)

3. Aquire microSD card (4GB is recommended for price and size, also on DX)

4. Download ROM and firmware for flash cart and put on microSD.

5. Start DS with flash cart and microSD inserted and say fuck you to laggy emulators and freezes.

i have a solution for all of you.. download DESMUME and a fresh new download of pokemon rom (gold/silver) then play.. the key is save the game after 20-30mins then restart the emulator it will avoid the random freeze i tried it and so far it works, well as of now there is no cure for the random freeze

@BlacKnight339 If you're using the No$GBA emulator you need to make sure that when you put in the code you select "Action Replay DS" at the bottom and click the box that says "RAW" under the cancel button. Then restart then press ok, double click the box next to the cheat, and restart the cartridge. That should work (as it just worked for me for HG). Also, the code he lists for HG doesn't work with HG, the SS one he lists does, so I think he got them backwards by mistake.

No$GBA may be the best running emulator for the DS with no lag, but its buggy as fuck! It also has no save states, no way to lower/mute the music without the game freezing, you need to go into options every time you want the speed on or off, you can't make it bigger at all, and you have to put it on certain settings to even USE the damn thing only for it to crash leaving you to look up how to fix the damn thing.

No$GBA = Frustration and waste of time!

@Dez3000 after each save, close the emulator and restart it back up, this is what i call at "close save." whenever the "rom image crashes" it will completely erase everything from the point that the game was last "close saved." theres nothing u can do but just close and restart the emulator after each save. its annoying but safe.

I have completed the game several times no freezes or black screen. It was a jap version converted to english. All I wanted to do was be able to trade to evolve so I found another method to open up two at the same time and trade. But had to use a different emulator(still no gba 2.6, original didn't have nds) :( I can longer get access my nogba emulator to change the setings back to how they were. Unhappy customer. I guess my problem wasn't similar after all.....

@Headsetphobias If you go into your no gba folder there should be a configuration settings file. Delete it. this resets your emulation configuration settings to default. Then you should be able to reopen your no gba without it crashing. I encountered this problem too (unless its not what you are meaning).

At unlimited mhz disaster 10% speed, this game runs from 300 to 600% on my computer. However, when I go to the pokemon storage system or the pokeathlon, it'll start out fast but then slow down to 30% after half a minute. A lot of ppl get this problem, but seems like no solution yet.

@Jugglebrosjr2 Yea I've looked for solutions too. Hilarious though; if you do the jump challenge the game goes too fast for the lamp jump and you can't keep up. I had to decrease my computer settings just so that it ran below 600%. The other events (as well as the box) I just do as quick as possible to try and beat the slowness.
