It'll protect him from fumes, but, if the grate in the door melted away, then microwave energy would be escaping out the door and into him. LOL a gas mask won't stop that -- that energy will go right through the gas mask just like it goes right through things like plastic containers when you cook food.

But in areas that don't have good blood flow, such as the corneas of his eyes, tissue could heat quickly enough to be permanently damaged. So probably all he would get would be blindness. lol. only.
