McBadass <3... I like how he kills the Carrow, he shows he can kill if he wants, but he doesn't WANT to kill Minerva or Harry... Or anyone. He can leave the school -as a coward, even if he is everything except a coward- and he knows that everyone is safe. The Carrow are gone so... It's okay.
i dont understand what criminal thing harry potter has done that would make hogwarts find him to be one???? did snape tell everyone that he killed dumbledor or something??? i just dont get it, can someone whos read all the books please reply, thanks
@steph4691 Actually, as you know, everyone considers Snape to be a deatheaer. As Voldemort has taken over the Ministry of Magic and put Snape into the status of the headmaster of Hogwarts, they search for Harry. The "Harry killed Dumbledore" is of course a false trail. They do not want Harry to be found because of killing Dumbledore, but because Voldemort wants to kill him. I hope you understand what I mean to say it's a bit dificult to explain =)
@SeverusSnapeFan2 omg thanks so much for replying. so when snape is headteacher everyone (all the hogwarts staff etc) think that he is evil? coz i thought that he was promoted but it was nothing to do with voldemort?
@steph4691 Of course they think that he is evil, because noone knew the truth, but Dumbledore and Snape himself. Harry didn't know either that Snape is good until he sees Snapes memories
@steph4691 Of course they think that he is evil, because noone knew the truth, but Dumbledore and Snape himself. Harry didn't know either that Snape is good until he sees Snapes memories
Well....Snape's attitude kinda like Itachi from Naruto though...Even the creator of Naruto admitted he got some Idea for his anime based from this movie and its book.
We learned something about BOTH of them actually :D We learn Snape is clever in this kind of situation without blowing his cover. We also learn that regardless of that truth, McGonagall can indeed be moved to action when she sees it must be done.
@Alysin123 Are there still Snape haters out there? Dear oh dear, it's bad enough people haven't read the books - but they could at least take the lazy way out and try and understand the movies???
SNAPE IS A GOOD GUY, PEOPLE! Even at the end of the sixth book I *knew* there was more to Dumbledore's death than him doing a killing curse.
@ludafish2000 Right after he says that the security problem is rather extensive, if you pause it 2 or 3 seconds after he says that... It is the most epic picture ever. It's basically like... "Yea, we're here. We are gonna kick your ass, you can't do shit about it, although it will be fun to see you try, and WE. WILL. PREVAIL.
@chris3310 you're right about the torches: in the book, McGonagall let a torch fly from its holder, to snape. i think the makers of the film used that idea for the whole duel.
Does anyone else love the way Snape stresses the word "equally" at 1:22? :D
I use to watch the english films only because of his voice AND his manner to slip over the syllables even if I'm german and don't understand everything! But it's pretty much better than the translated version...
(Portuguese - Brazil)
I love this scene! The fact that Snape deflected McGonnagal's spells into the Carrow twins shows how badass he is! I love that he fled, it doesn't show that he's a coward, it shows that he knew the fight would lead to one of then dying, and he didn't want to have to kill her, as they were friends! I love Severus Snape! :D
McGonnagal is awesome but it seems her fans are a bit peeved that Snape is the ultimate badass when all is said and done. And it's obvious that Snape deflects her spell into the Carrow twins. Why the hell would he move right and left like that all of a sudden? LOL Both of them could have killed each other
Are all of you retards? Snape was acting this all out to convince voldemort that he was on his side.....of course he wasn't really gonna hhurt Harry or Minerva. Its not that he didn't wanna fight cuz he didn't wanna waste his time.....look at his face when Harry was calling him out....he feels horrible...he wants to tell everyone what really happened...but that would give him up....
@AaRoNizWrEcKiN Sorry, but who is it exactly you call retards? I don't see anyone here, who says Snape was evil.. And if you watched the movie or read the book, it should be obvious to everyone :)
"Any person found to have knowledge of these events.... who FAILS to come forward.... will be treated.... as..... equ..............ally guilty...... Now then...."
@santiedlp true to that, I really though this movie was a let down as the epic finale :( this was one of the only parts I liked, but it did give me goosebumps!
@OctavioHVC It's so sad that J.K. bothered to write such a compelling character as Snape, and so many are just too oblivious to understand him. If anyone thinks Snape 'ran away' in this scene, it indicates a total lack of comprehension. I always said, McGonnagal could have killed him and he could have killed her but the point is he didn't want that and retreated, not worried if people thought he was 'scared.' That's what a true hero does. He goes on with the plan and is the ultimate hero
@gazconvery no, "take on" is the wrong word, because he fought with McGonagall, but decided to run when Flitwick came there too. I think McGonagall could have handled him alone pretty well :)
@goldsaint89 No ! Don't you see that Snape deflected the spell to kill the two Death Eaters behind him, so he can leave and the school doesn't take risks.
@Mskayteelovesyouu Honey, I've read Harry more times than I can count. I know why she came back, I just don't know why they put her in the student crowd in the movie.
Did anyone else notice how Snape actually deflected McGonagalls attack in a way that it would hit the Carrow twins? At 2:47 you can see how Snape actually made McGonagalls attack hit the twins.
''How dare you to stand where he stood? Tell them how it happend that night.! Tell them how you looked him in the eye, a man who trusted you and you killed him''
Oh and sorry, as you noticed Snape did not attack McGonagall back but my belief is different than a lot of people. Yes, McGonagall is a BAD-ASS, Ok? But Severus respected her as a Co-Worker. He didn't want to hurt her. I know a lot of people don't wish to hear he could kick her ass but he could. He is a death eater for christ sakes. I just didn't think he wanted to fight. There was a lot going on in his head during this point. Not to mention Harry just like outed him and called him out.
@MizzJessika18 Are you kidding? McGonagall could take him with her hands tied behind her back! She is older, more experienced, has been fighting/dueling a whole lot longer than Severus. Minerva took on Voldemort himself. Snape might be a challenge but she could kick his ass
Snape's speech was brilliantly done and Alan..Omg.. Heh. This is one scene where instead of swooning at Snape..he was actually quite intimidated. Especially in theaters on July 15th first time seeing it. I sure as hell was all ears and he had my attention. But for some reason his level of dominance here is...sexy.
I knew it! It's been confirmed by article in The Australian that WB kicked Rickman aside for Fiennes. "Warner Bros is also heavily promoting Ralph Fiennes for best supporting actor. This has caused tension at Warner's where some senior execs preferred Rickman for best supp actor. "In this last film Rickman is not only powerful but also touching, as his truly heroic sacrifice is revealed," says a former executive. "And, unlike Fiennes, Rickman doesn't need a computer-generated face to do it."
Voldemort should have gotten rid of McGonagall, her powers are a huge threat to Snape's regime in Hogwarts, but that scene was one of my favorites. Thank you for posting!

Alan Rickman has done a beautiful job at portraying Severus Snape. After years of watching him, I still don't know how he does it. He has the perfect body language, speech patterns. In short: Absolute perfection.
Such a powerful scene. "How dare you stand where he stood!" Shows that hatred in Harry, and we know Snape is dying inside because he lost Dumbledore. How did J.K. Rowling come up with such an amazing story? Alan Rickman deserves every award possible.
LOL this scene is well done but gives away his true loyalties :D if he was really a death eater he would have attacked McGonagall instead of just defending himself... he cared for her :P and worse than that, I don't know if it's on purpose but at some point when Severus is defending himself a spell rebounds and hits the two death eaters that are behind him that I suppose are the Carrows! And then he runs away! Damn this man is misunderstood throughout all the books, it's annoying! O.o
this aint even how it happened in the book. in the book after defeating the carrows harry luna and mcGonagall under the Invisibility cloak went down to warn the Heads of House that Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters were about to siege the Castle in an attempt to get Harry Potter. As they got down, they were stopped by Headmaster Severus Snape and the two teachers engaged in a duel. McGonagall was joined by Filius Flitwick, Pomona Sprout and Horace Slughorn. then snape flies out the window
@thebuckrogers22 uhh..its called condensing a big book...thats why things were a bit different throughout the last three books. still they worked out in the end!
i think that they should ve made this part like it was in the book see snape could take mcgonagall if he wanted to because in the book not only does he take on her but also flitwick and slughorn they dont show enough of snapes power in this movie because he is on of the best wizards out there because he isnt voldemorts right hand man for no reason
You know what sucks? At like : 2:37 , I pictured that exactly, but its Harry and Voldemort, there were more Death Eaters, and.. well I'm pretty sure that's the great hall.
Love how he just goes, "Now then." Like absolutely nothing is wrong. lol I'd really like to throttle Harry here though and be like, "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!"
The movie doesn't do the duel justice, but I'm happy with it. Subtle details make up for it. How swift McGonagall was. How Kingsley doesn't seem worried about McGonagall because he knows she can fully handle herself. It just beautiful. I love Minerva McGonagall
After Snape left, he went home, got on YouTube and disliked this video.

this aint even how it happened in the book. in the book after defeating the carrows harry luna and mcGonagall under the Invisibility cloak went down to warn the Heads of House that Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters were about to siege the Castle in an attempt to get Harry Potter. As they got down, they were stopped by Headmaster Severus Snape and the two teachers engaged in a duel. McGonagall was joined by Filius Flitwick, Pomona Sprout and Horace Slughorn. then snape flies out the window

I love 'Many of you are surely wondering why I have summoned you at this hour.'
I must work on my Alan Rickman voice, assemble several people I know at a late hour, stand in front of them all and say this.

trip478 3 months ago
i think that they should ve made this part like it was in the book see snape could take mcgonagall if he wanted to because in the book not only does he take on her but also flitwick and slughorn they dont show enough of snapes power in this movie because he is on of the best wizards out there because he isnt voldemorts right hand man for no reason
trip478 3 months ago
@trip478 Yesssssssssssssssssssssss. Snape is so powerful, especially in the dark arts. I wish it was shown better in the movies.

The producers were right to make the fight between Snape and McGonagall alone, Minerva doesn't need help lol.

You know what sucks? At like : 2:37 , I pictured that exactly, but its Harry and Voldemort, there were more Death Eaters, and.. well I'm pretty sure that's the great hall.

God damn that replay button...I swear I have watched this video 20 times just today...that's AN HOUR!!!! omg...

The movie doesn't do the duel justice, but I'm happy with it. Subtle details make up for it. How swift McGonagall was. How Kingsley doesn't seem worried about McGonagall because he knows she can fully handle herself. It just beautiful. I love Minerva McGonagall
