I find it rather unscientific that certain scientists think that the lack of success in a single or handful of attampts by a psychic proves they're not psychic. I mean, I can break a board with my fist but I won't succeed every single time. So if I had to prove the ability and then showed unable, would that prove that I can't break boards? no, it just proves that my skill is crap.

@DrMadolite But no-one has been able to prove that they are psychic in many tests, which have been made over the years. It is, however, very easy for you to prove that you can break a board by just trying it enough times. I'm sure the "psychics" will tell you that their abilities don't always work, but if you measure the amount of times they get something right, you'll find that it is correspondent with the amount of times you'd get it right just by guesswork and luck.

You claim God talked to you. Guess what, Zeus talked to me then. Can you disprove me? Does that mean that Zeus is real? You keep evading questions and talk about your personal experience. But no one is interested in some voices you think you heard. The only thing we want is true EVIDENCE.
I once taught 3 kids from a JHS on one side of the valley.
I then got a gig at the JHS and primary school on the other side of the valley.
I had lunch with the JHS kids and learned a couple of names. My first lunch at the primary school had me facing a girl who said she has a sister in JHS.
That was a Thursday. I guessed her sister's name.
On Friday, I showed those from this side of the valley some class photos.
One spotted an old friend who transfered, with a younger sister, who,.. etc.
Dawkins doesn't understand 1's and 0's, computer programing and DNA. If he did he would recognize that the amazing beauty he acknowledges in DNA as designed. A person with a technical degree (Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, information Technology) understands and can easily recognize design when it is present, they recognize computer programing, DNA and Language are all designed. Atheists need to get an eduction on these issues, but they won't, their SCARED THEY WILL FIND THEIR GOD!

DNA is designed, indeed, but since biology is not my strenght, i suggest you watch the video in which Neil deGrasse Tyson talks about intelligent design and see the errors in that theory.

@dargondr Try to think of it as a simulation. At each coin toss roughly half chose heads and half chose tails, with one person getting it right 8 times in a row - except it's a simulation so nobody really chose anything. And yes, some of those kids might have come away thinking "it was rigged". Dawkins, like many intelligent people, sometimes falls into the trap of assuming everyone is 'keeping up' - although I think he's become more careful about that since meeting Bill O'Reilly.

From that kid's perspective he successfully predicted the outcome of a coin flip 8 out of 8 times, the odds of which are 1 in 256, pretty spectacular considering the statistical norm. But, if you look at this situation, uh... reverse-ways, the odds that one person in a room of 200-300 people would experience a 1 in 256 event is statistically very likely and pretty unremarkable. You get what I mean?

I stayed awake for 3-4 days, smoked a shit load of pot and strangely enough I saw settlers making cities and towers outside my car. It could have been a divine vision, but most likely because I had gone without sleep, was on drugs, and had played settlers 7 for 3 days straight.

Also... I was kinda confused when I realized the audience consisted of kids. He speaks to kids in the exact same tone and vocabulary as he does to adults. I heard he wrote a children's book... well, if I see this, I'd probably throw that book in the bin if I were a kid. Yet another scientist forgetting the message is as important as conveying it properly.
@Lolznator The experiment seemed sound to me, but Dawkins probably could have layed out the obvious a little more, especially considering the audience.
All the experiment was effectively trying to show was that for every "succesful" coincedence, there are a huge amount of "failed" coincedences, thus showing that isolated extremely unlikely events are in fact highly likely, or even near-certain to happen.
@k2kraze That's clear to me and you ;) But the experiment was 'inverted' somehow. It seems now (at least to the kids, I'd assume) as if he's choosing a PERSON through the coin-flipping
... whereas the essence is of course that, if we let all these kids guess the sequence of heads and tails, then it's very likely that someone will guess correctly. And to this person, it'll seem supernatural or special.
@Lolznator haha, good catch: not a coincidence at all, but I'll reword that and say the "coincidence" (obviously not) that the boy was correct every time. The fact that something can "appear" to someone to be special or supernatural is entirely the point this experiment illustrated. It's sheer probability, not a result of psychic powers. Hence the inversion. Chance is creating the coincidence, and removing the decision from the child illustrates this.
It would have been better if he would've let them write down some predictions. Then probability might really kick in. What he did here wasn't interesting at all.
ps: I've got nothing against the guy and I'm not of any religious disposition. Just saying the experiment isn't interesting.
@LIVINGONTHEDOLE As excellent as that would be (particularly in comparison to many other world leaders and politicians worldwide), I'm sure Dawkins would admit he's much more of a scientist than a politician (as opposed to someone like Hitchens, for example, who dwelled further into politics afaik). Luckily for many of us, he's not "just another intelligent bastard," but a figurehead, leader and source of inspiration for the atheism movement.

He has no understanding of Math or Physics (as this video shows about his lack of knowledge concerning statistics). It is, however, very easy for you to prove that you can break a board by just trying it enough times. I once taught 3 kids from a JHS on one side of the valley.
I then got a gig at the JHS and primary school on the other side of the valley.
I had lunch with the JHS kids and learned a couple of names. My first lunch at the primary school had me facing a girl who said she has a sister in JHS.

At each coin toss roughly half chose heads and half chose tails, with one person getting it right 8 times in a row - except it's a simulation so nobody really chose anything. And yes, some of those kids might have come away thinking "it was rigged". Dawkins, like many intelligent people, sometimes falls into the trap of assuming everyone is 'keeping up' - although I think he's become more careful about that since meeting Bill O'Reilly.

From that kid's perspective he successfully predicted the outcome of a coin flip 8 out of 8 times, the odds of which are 1 in 256, pretty spectacular considering the statistical norm. Also... I was kinda confused when I realized the audience consisted of kids. He speaks to kids in the exact same tone and vocabulary as he does to adults. I heard he wrote a children's book... well, if I see this, I'd probably throw that book in the bin if I were a kid. All the experiment was effectively trying to show was that for every "succesful" coincedence, there are a huge amount of "failed" coincedences, thus showing that isolated extremely unlikely events are in fact highly likely, or even near-certain to happen.

The fact that something can "appear" to someone to be special or supernatural is entirely the point this experiment illustrated. It's sheer probability, not a result of psychic powers. @allieron Allah is mercy full then your mother ,he made this world as test of truth fullness ,he will test us in many things ,who ever succeed and give back his free will back to god ,Allah will grant them paradise .take a look at all around you non of them have free will they do everything what god tell them to do ,for example ,look at the sun if the sun disobey god what happens ,if the moon disobey then you will not know what day or month it is ,everything in this universe given a way .
