  • wow nice lol

  • What is the megahertz of this chip?

Looking back on computer interfaces I experienced growing up, the chip speed with this sort of CRT display seems odd. The chip speed seems 1992 ish, while the CRT is 1983 (or prior...).

Not that the project was meant to be a historic reproduction... would have be nice if those c64 / apple II models could have been twenty times faster...

  • The chip is a 80Mhz propeller micro controller with 8 parallel processing cogs. Not a historic reproduction, just in a retro style.

  • It is a very good weekend project, but the biggest time suck is moving the wiki files to the sd card so there are no folders (my poor batch skills weren't up to the task of automating it),

I accept your challenge! I really want a truly portable wikipedia (even though it is more fun like this).

  • I'm not sure how wiki dumps are formatted, but this seems like it would be rather easy and fun for a weekend project. My challenge to you would be to see if you can get it to display on a qvga video watch to make it a truly portable wikipedia.

  • 500 views since second period. good job :D

  • If this was solar powered or hooked up to a generator, this would be a cool survival tool, how big is wikipedia from 2003 on the SD card?

  • That's what we want it to be, but more mobile. We've actually made a version that is much smaller and fits easily in a bag with a battery life of more than 10 hours, but it has some small issues. The 2003 wikipedia is just under 2 gigs.

  • Very cool project :D Whats the computer casing from?

  • The case for the actual computer is a sparkfun box, which is really nice for this application, and it looks nice :D

The tv was scavenged at a junk shop, and the other bits are just stuff laying on one of my dirty desks.

  • Nice in it's own way. Who's the music by?

  • Missing You by Icarus, and thanks.

  • The artist name is Trash80, album is Icarus, song is Missing You

  • Woops, thanks for that correction.
