I don't get it.....I like some classical songs... but this one i don't get...... I'm reading Violin by Anne Rice and she mentions this symphony a couple of times.... I don't understand why people think this is beautiful.....it reminds me of a snobby aristocratic party.
@Profilier21 See, it makes me think of a storm chasing some poor deer through a forest--- the storm wins! So, to each there own. Thank goodness, there is SO much beautiful music out there, everyone can like different things! :)
You might not like it, as in everybody is free to have his/her own tastes (this is greatly encouraged actually).
But if you don't understand why people consider this movement as one of the best ever made is just depicting the fact you don't understand what Music is all about, I'm afraid.
Do no just hear it : listen to it, live it. Then you will trully enjoy Music :)

Also, Violin by Anne Rice should gives you all the explanations you need about Music, this a really great novel.
i wouldn´t compare this to the fourth movement -- both are unique works of a genius and each has its qualities -- the galloping strings and pumping bass in this one are surely absolutely out of this world, just like the "froh wie seine sonnen fliegen"-"stomp" in part 4 -- i read that the audience was so erupting in spontaneous cheering and applause at this movement that the orchestra had to start it again at the premiere!
@ElGentoo actually Beethoven considered the Missa Solemnis the best work he ever composed, and was not happy with the final form of the 4th mvt of this symphony and wanted to rewrite it
Sounds like it's time for a little of the old ultra-violence.

That bust of him is quite striking, it's strange to look upon the countenance of a man who lived so long ago

I may be in the minority but I love this movement MUCH better then the 4th (Ode to Joy.) Such power!

minority my arse! this is fucking powerful it blows your mind!

@Animainiac85
i agree with you. This movement is superb. Personally, the fourth seems annexed like, perhaps, Beethoven's embryo of a tenth.

@Animainiac85 I personally like the third movement the best. We're both minorities. :)

I agree, probably the best piece of music Beethoven ever written.
