  • All the mentioned artists have their gifts for sure. The Sibelius is a concerto that has a transparency allowing for different interpretations that are quite different and yet valid. Heifetz or HH use an icey serentity....the Northern lights....while SC or ASM will put the heart and soul of Finlandia into it. All wonderful..all appropriate. So enjoy a little salsa with your pickled herring, and stop the pious judgements.

  • the ending of this movement is breathtaking!

  • She has mad bowing skills and I love all the emotion she puts into it. :D

  • falta interpretação ....a hilary hahn é melhor

  • 6:57 Que sonrisa tan picara!

  • No doubt that Sarah Chang is a great violinist, but I am not a big fan of overly dramatic vibrato she does almost all the time... Her passion is great, but sometimes her passion goes over the top and loses the overall beauty and structure, and I think sometimes Less Is More. Well, it's a matter of taste after all. I love Kyung-Wha Chang, Oistrakh and Midori on Sibelius.

  • Have got to say that, this is one of sarah chang's best performances in a lot time.

  • As much as I love this version, I prefer Jascha Heifetz's the BEST. I bought a CD containing this concerto and several others, and Heifetz just has an effortless, graceful fluidity in his technique that no other violinist ever had(or has). Not only that, but he plays every single note like if it was written for him! That's why he's the greatest violinist ever!!

Nevertheless, I LOVE Sarah Chang. Korean violinists really rock my world!

  • You can clearly hear people coughing and clearing up their throats between the movements, LOL. At least they don't do it during Sarah's performance.

  • Bravo...

  • Close your eyes when you listen to this music, and it paints a landscape of the Himalayas in your mind. It's an exhilarating, uplifting experience...

  • @zucchini2007 Hahaha That's funny because Sibelius was Finnish :-)

  • A beautiful Korean American lady playing the violin so skillfully...I LOVE IT!! :-)

I hope that I can be as good as her very soon....

  • virtually flawless as per usual =)

  • Ah ha. Around 6:03 min into this, you see flute players playing. When Kavakos and especially Vengerov play the piece, they PLAY that part. Flutes or orchestra do not play it. The violin plays it. That section was also in the too-difficult version of it Sibelius first wrote. All other versions are the "new" version, except for Kavakos who was given permission to play the original. The last part, tho, HE is playing that section - but Vengerov plays it too - and better, clearer, crisper.

  • Try Vengerov's version. And if you want to hear the original one Sibelius wrote, try Kavakos. the version was so hard that the original performance in early 1900s was a disaster! Guy could bearly play it, red faced and sweating, he struggled through! Live, on stage. Embarassing!

  • a lot of famous violinists do masterclasses like josefwitz, and midori, etc. in tsyo

  • Why dunt u play it and show everyone what u're made of.

  • This version sticks with me, I love Hilary Hahn's too but Changs gets under your skin (In a good way).

  • @Keette I totally agree, Hahn's playing sounds a little robotic to me. But Chang FEELS the music, she makes you feel the emotion with which the composer wrote every double-stop, every whole note, every beat....

  • @zucchini2007 True but Hilary Hahn's playing is just like a guide. I always refer music pieces which have sophisticated rhythm to her playing. It's just..near perfection.

  • @bountyhanz

AMEN. hilary hahn's interpretations may not be as distinctive as others, but her playing IS mind-blowingly perfect and it's very soothing to listen to every time. she can't disappoint:)

  • She is wonderful

I hope I will be as good as her, in a couple years

  • you will. I'm trying to be as good as her, too. just keep pushin' and you will. I promise.

  • I saw this conductor do Bruckner 5 with Chicago Symphony in October (or novermber). Wonderful conductor. very clear. Chang is wonderful as always.

  • Sarah is so musically GIFTED and beautiful, I just want to go up to her, introduce myself to her, give her a nice little peck on the cheek, and tell her that I think she's an incredible violinist. And then maybe after the concerto I can interview her over a nice candlelit dinner. I need her help to improve my violin-playing skills, I think she would make an awesome violin teacher.

  • She should give lessons! I would immediately sign up for them.

  • That's assuming you could afford them lol. I highly doubt many people could...

  • if shes reasonable, then 200 dollars a lesson sounds right, thats the going rate for conservatory teachers in New York at MSM of Julliard.

  • lol...you're not alone! :)

  • ya es de mis preferidas esta chica

  • WOW, I think that Chang belongs in the same league as Heifetz, Perlman, Oikstrakh, and Mintz. She's one of the greatest violinists of modern times, her intonation is PERFECT, her tempo is right on target, her vibratos sound great, her fingerings are very accurate, and her dynamics are beautiful. And then to top it all off, she's a beautiful Korean woman.

  • Although he may be a renowned conductor, I don't think Sarah Chang and this orchestra complement each other. For me, I felt at various parts throughout the piece lacked energy and vivacity, like other recordings. Sarah Chang, however, is, as always, an amazing performer and highly respected in my book. This is solely my opinion, so don't take it out of context.

  • This piece is actually really fun to play in the orchestra (at least for me, I've played the timpani part).

There's no BS in the soloist's playing. So often you see the violinist overdramatize this one. Sibelius never goes out the way to write impossible stuff, so you learn it nd letthe music speak for itself.

    Very good performance.

  • Because you're not supposed to clap between movements.

  • LOL noob

  • disrespectful XD zuahahahha

  • lmao *headdesk*

  • and i hate how people just can't help but cough in concerts... so annoying.

  • yea i hate them too, there should be a rule forbidding coughing

  • i think she lost grip of her violin at end of he first movement

  • Why most of the time, people care about musicians' race? just enjoy the music...

  • well she IS playing in Amsterdam...

  • i always love sarah chang's majestic stand when she is not playing the violin....with her left hand hand at the back and her right hand in front holding the bow and the violin....so majestic....wowo....

  • Me too! She could definitely take more time on it. It's a shame, cause since it's a cadenza she can obviously take however much time she wants. ah well

  • i feel like the cadenza is rushed a bit.

  • hm, i agree to an extent, but i think it's effective how she does it. it keeps and intense feeling with it always moving.
