@BALROGG111 no brushing, separating the cords, make sure they don't matt. soak in the tub and make sure it gets dry all over. you wash as often as u want to :)
ok ive been looking for a protective dog in the future and im thinking either a black russian terrier or this dog.
does this dog have a good guarding ability?and i dont mind the grooming cuz i have dreadlocks too ^^but im not getting the dog just cuz of its coat at all and would this dog make a good dog for a first time owner?
@Smackenzieth the komondors are excellent guard dogs by nature. Normally koms are not biters, but they 'immobilize' the intruder, and bite only if there is a threat.
some first time owners are better then experienced dog owners :) what a komondor needs is a leader. They are extremely smart, and independent thinkers. If you don't lead, they will take over, and that's not what you want. :) You must be the head of your peck! that of course is true with any other breed in my opinion.
@kuchiharu 'lot' is relative, but yes, it does take awhile. It really depends on how matted the cords are. Obviosly if you go through them often - like once in a couple of weeks -, it's much easier, and won't take too long, maybe 10-15min. I'm talking about the already formed cords. When they first start cording or matting, you better check them weekly or so. :)
@dedrawilliams the komondor's coat is very soft, which is why it gets matted. that said, those dread locks can be very hard as they matt more, but nothing like human hair. it gives the dog great protection against predators ( they are guard dogs originally, and are still used in many areas as such )
Their defiently unique but i'd cry if I had to groom one of these dogs. Their so big and their hair gets so matted!! I imagine its really gotta be a nightmare tryin to wash one of these dogs like how would you get all the soap out?
@nikigurl08 lol niki...it does take a lot of water to bath them. we normally get them into a tub full of water and soak them for a few :) then lots of water to rinse...
ofc it depends on how dirty they are, but our koms are outside 24/7 so they do get dirty
@alvinjay0108 pulis are herders - they are obediant intelligent...and veryyy energetic. komondors are larger counterparts.. and are the guarding breed. they both are corded dogs, and require good grooming skills to keep on top of. komondors are known to have quite arlert and protective temperaments. bergermascos develop matting rather than dreadlocks, which are difficult to produce properly. they are also a livestock herder and guarder, and they are more protective than the other two.
@alvinjay0108 i wont get into comparing the kom n berg, but can tell u the main diffs in between the kom n puli - its huge :)
the koms r guard dogs, about 100lbs, very relaxed temperament. the pulik r herding dogs, about 25-30lbs, very energetic dogs. both breeds r extremely smart, while the koms r very independent, the pulik r very obedient n want to please their owners. ofc there r a lot to both breeds, n individual dogs will differ too. google for more details ;)

About how long does it take you to separate the chords? Even at the pace ur going it still looks like it would take a lot of time!

@amazingdany Komondors are an ancient breed. The huns 'perfected' them to be independent guardians of their flock. :)
