  • Some of his points are very socialist sounding. I doubt that the restaurant or clothing industries would "wither", or television for that matter, in a world without compulsary schooling. Not everyone is going to want to spend their time knitting, sowing and pressing their own clothes all the time. A true free market, with unimpeded division of labor, would supply the demand for clothes so those people could pursue their own special skills that they prefer to spend their time.

  • I'm not sure that you all are getting it. Maybe you, yourselves are too brain washed by public ed. The point isn't grades or teaching styles. The point is, the crap you teach is mostly useless. The real purpose of this is to show you that people learn, rise and esteem by common experiences. Public school is regergitation. Teach says whetever, child repeats it, good child. Child is daydreaming about whatever he wants to do in life... bad child. WTF is that??? It's public education.

  • of COURSE it isn't f@#king education

    ffs

come ON guys this is OLD NEWS

    get the fuck with it

it's like "hmm, is evolution real?" hmmm...fkng helll

  • my favorite math teacher had to leave cause he disagreed wih the school , or so the rumor went. He helped me open up and get an B+...

  • "I teach people by getting out of their way"

    I like that!

  • "School teaches you how to be a good egyptian, and where your place is in the pyramid"

    A very interesting analogy.

  • indeed

  • @zomgwtfbbqffs In my social studies class we actually had a pyramid diagram to represent our school's social structure. And students like me get to sit at the bottom.

  • @zomgwtfbbqffs The tune Walk Like an Egyptian was inspired by a tomb mural that depicted people all lined up and differentiated only by their roles in society.

All the school kids so sick of books

They like the punk and the metal band

When the buzzer rings (oh whey oh)

    They're walking like an Egyptian

All the kids in the marketplace say

Ay oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh

    Walk like an Egyptian

  • Notice he voiced this after he retired. If teachers disagree they can be fired.

  • @Dulcenaya It really depends on school & level. Most of them are like what Mr. Gatto states but there are schools that allow one to teach the way that feels right & comfortable. As long as the students pass the exams it really doesn't matter how they are taught. I plan most of my lessons based on the needs of my students & mix it with multiple subjects, not just the one I was hired for (History). Most ESE teachers are like this. I could only hope that regular teachers would catch up. Peace.

  • @LadyBludgeon ....You're not getting it. A child shouldn't be tested by someone who taught them that. They should be tested with real life situations.
