  • ato bolden is still T and T best athlete still...trinidad is a joke ....BOLT,Gay,Powell has mental problems.

  • You obviously don't follow T&T sports. Ato Boldon is one of of many great athletes Trinidad and Tobago has produced.

  • why would you say asafa for the gold, he does bad under pressure

  • Well ..the US team is out ..

so I guess it's really down to TnT & Jamaica.

TnT is on top for the 4 x 100 Relay as far as time..but Usain Bolt didn't run..lol..

But I do think TnT has a good chance for gold.

"The main challenge to Jamaican dominance is likely to come from Trinidad and Tobago and the absentees mean there is a chance for one of the unfancied nations to pick up a medal."

    -Yahoo! Sports

  • Silver!!! Yay!!!

I really wanted the gold though. :(

  • True , but I'm happy all the same!!

2 Silver Medals for TnT in one Olympics?

You know all of Trinidad is happy!

  • What do you think about the 4x100 Relay?

  • Other than Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and USA, I don't see much competition for medals.

Trinidad & Tobago always runs a good relay. They have a good chance for gold this year. Jamaica can also run a World Record race if they don't have messy exchanges. The USA team are somehow favourites according to the analysts. I don't want them to medal. :)

  • It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future.

  • Man, USain Bolt did his thing, but i was disappointed that he shut down early... and I was also surprised that Walter Dix made it in 3rd...I kinda thought Powell would win it after gay wasnt there.

  • Not all would be happy without a quota because they identify with being Jamaican/Guyanese or Bajan and not with being Carribean.

  • Exactly, that is why this would never work. I remember the first time that the team had no Trinidadian players in it, the support for them from Trinidadian fans wasn't there.

  • The real topic is the unification of the Carribean. Eliminate the quotas and choose the best from the region. West Indies Cricket team is the second best team of all time. Would this have been the case if they were competing as individual nations?

  • The West Indies are barely in the top 10 best cricket teams at the moment.

Trinidad and Tobago playing as an individual nation would demolish the current West Indies team. The same goes for Jamaica.

There is no way that everybody will be happy without a quota in place. At one time, there was a big dispute because there were too many Trinidadians in the West Indian team. They were playing well at the moment but the other players wanted to play too so they made noise over it.

  • How would that be? The gold and silver in the 100 metre would be for the Carribean. Greater pool of people to choose from.

  • Greater pool to choose from but there is a limit to how much sprinters they allow from each country. Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago are dominating the 100m in the Caribbean region. If a team was assembled, it would be comprised of mostly Jamaicans and Trinidadians/Tobagonians. This would not go down well with the rest of the region. This is why they have quotas in place in the West Indian cricket team player selection and subsequently why our team is in the state it is now.

  • well said

  • I thought I was the only person hoping that the West Indies would break up until I read an article from one of the newspapers in Trinidad saying the same thing. Then I kept meeting people who were saying the same thing from all across the Caribbean.

  • @dreamreborn...good call on saying that the record would be smashed..@jabmalassie...man we could all imagine if west indies played as one at the olympics..we should get ouutraced by australlia, new zealand, pakistan, india, sri lanka and england...lolol..

  • He still exceeded my expectations though. Imagine what could have happened if he didn't celebrate prematurely. LoL.

  • Could you imagine if the West Indies competed as one.

  • That would be the worst thing to ever happen in the history of sports. The calibre of athletes will quickly diminish similar to what we have with the West Indian cricket team.

Just like the cricket team, the entire team would not be allowed to be comprised of athletes from one nation, even if they are obviously the best at what they do. We would be forced to send sub-par athletes to represent us.

If Trinidad and Tobago competed internationally in cricket, we would be a top team.

  • I CAN BET BOLT COULD HAVE CLOCKED 9.5sec HAD HE NOT JUBILATED WAY TOO EARLY TO THE LINE. HIS COACH NEED TO TALK TO HIM TO CROSS THE LINE BEFORE CELEBRATING.

  • He knew exactly what he was doing by celebrating prematurely. Sprinting is as much of a mind game as it is a physical one. The next time he races, his competitors will remember this race and they won't know what to expect.

He also just wanted to put on a show for the world and he certainly did that.

  • OMG!! Bolt just ran a 9.69!!! CRUSHED the world record!! All 3 jamaicans made the final...only one american..

  • And he could have ran an even faster time if he didn't drop his arms at the end. LoL.

Actually 2 Americans and 6 Caribbean.

    3 Jamaica

    2 Trinidad and Tobago

    1 Netherlands Antilles

  • I got Bolt right and Dix right (bronze). Didn't see this coming from Asafa though, he said he was just not ready for the race and his legs gave out

  • Jamaica hands down

  • Congrats to Bolt and Thompson!!!...bringin it home to the caribbean for Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago!...i'm sure the author of this video would not forget thompson's name again..lol...nice summary tho..

  • I promise that I won't. :D

  • Well you all can't say I didn't tell you. Tyson 'the' Gay just didn't have it in him this time around, the injury did him in and I could tell from his first round he was too tight and could not do 10 seconds.

  • I was expecting a miracle for Gay. At least enough to make the finals.

  • Bolt to run 9.65

  • You were .04 seconds off. :(

  • ...and sadly my fears have been confirmed. Tyson is out!

  • OMG, i can´t believe my eyes. Tyson Gay finished fourth. Thus, did not make it to the finals. *shocked*

  • ...ehm...he finished fifth

  • LoL.

  • Yeah one bad hamstring injury and YOUR CAREER is over.

  • No weaknesses or mistakes will go unpunished from now on in the 100m. These guys have really raised the bar.

  • 1. Usain Bolt

    2. Tyson Gay

    3. Asafa Powell

I think Tyson may suprize people. He looks like he has slowed down since he fell, but I think he is holding back til the final. Asafa has been my favorite for years, but this Usain kid is scary! He jogs for half the race and still runs 9.9!

I think all three will break the record. If Usain wins tho, he will set a ridiculous record.

  • Record prediction: 9.5

  • 9.5!!! LoL. Not that it's impossible, but I highly doubt that they could pull that off after so many heats.

    I say 9.65 - 9.7

  • Damn, it looked as if your prediction would have been correct if Bolt didn't drop his arms at the end.

  • Yo I was pissed when He dropped his arms like that! Yo He could have ran that 9.5 if he had went all out thu the line. That KIDS is Amazing! Maybe he is holding back so he can keep breaking the record. Even Otto said BOLT could have ran a 9.59. Just shows you what we are really capable of.

  • I read an article that said he could have done 9.53. I'm really pissed that he did a premature celebration. I guess we'll see him lower that record again this year.

    Otto or Ato?

  • I was reading some articles in which Ato Boldon was analysing Usain Bolt's performances in the 100m. This is some of what he had to say.

"He's changed the thinking in the sport,"

Until Bolt, height was seen as a liability in the 100. "You don't look on the Redeem Team for the 100-meter champion," Boldon says. "Somebody that tall should not have that kind of turnover."

"He gets 6-feet-5 inch tall stride points. We took 45-46 steps. Last time I checked he is taking 41-42."

  • st. lucian accent? sounds just like my friend

  • Trinidadian

  • This is going to be the lineup for the 100m finals come Saturday (not correct lane assignments) 1. Usain Bolt 2. Asafa Powell 3. Michael Frater 4. Marc Burns 5. Walter Dix 6. Darvis Patton 7. Francis Obikwelu 8. Churandy Martina And here is the podium list 1. Usain Bolt 2. Asafa Powell 3. Walter Dix
  • 1. Agree 2. Agree 3. Agree 4. Agree. Although I think Thompson will do better for Trinidad and Tobago. If Burns makes it, Martina won't. 5. Doubt it but he has a good chance. Richard Thompson instead. 6. Either Patton or Martina will round out the final eight. 7. Obikwelu is too old in my opinion. I don't think he would be able to clock a sub 10. 8. Either Martina or Patton will round out the final eight. Podium list 1. Asafa Powell in WR time 2. Usain Bolt 3. Richard Thompson
  • Hold up. I just realised that you omitted Tyson Gay from your line up. Why?

  • WERE YOU LOOKING INTO A MAGIC GLASS OR WHAT? ´COS TRULLY, TYSON GAY DID NOT MAKE THE FINAL lineup.

  • no way only 1 american makes it to the final...never...

But this can all go up in smoke if the air quality in beijing remains bad. Gay and Patton will be in the final..no doubt about it. No man has ever run faster than Gay..ever. Even wind assisted. He's winning the gold. But you are 100% on it about him saving american running. The american runners have been a joke for years now. But yeah man...the Jamaicans are running so good right now....asafa powell vs. Gay is going to be the race!

  • Ok maybe there's room for 2, but that's about it. The next 6 are going to be from the Caribbean for sure. We have 8 men from the Caribbean running in the next round and 3 Americans.

It's going to be a great race.

  • they're running now?!?! crap...is there a stream...I'm in my office!!! I need a T.V. installed in here!

  • Unfortunately they're not streaming the heats on NBC's website. Only the finals. You can see the results for the races in the link I have in the description though. They update it instantly.

  • I agree the jamaicans usually have some fast sprinters, but I have to disagree with your pics because I havent seen an Olympic finals without 3 Americans runners.... good vid man.

  • You also haven't seen an 100m Olympic finals with so many competitors clocking sub 10 times. If the Americans are lucky, they will get 2 places in the finals. 1 of the Trinidadian guys just got knocked out. They still need to keep an eye on the guy from the Netherlands Antilles though.

  • True, good point, we will see very shortly. I'll be back!

  • Dude!!! what about Darvis Patton for the US??? he went 9.89 a few weeks ago

  • As I said, I don't want to kick all of these guys out of the finals because it's a very fast field. There may be a few surprises but I have a strong feeling that the Caribbean sprinters will dominate in Beijing.
