  • Paging Ralph Emery - PLEASE release this entire show! It's shows two of country's finest at their best; priceless and a ton of fun. So many of us would love to see the whole thing (I seem to remember Marty doing a wonderful version of "Today, I Started Loving You Again" on piano with an appreciative Merle listening in the background ...) .

  • This was GREAT! Thanks for posting this!

  • I love this video! Im wondering what year this was . Maybe mid 70's .

  • Unreal, great video. I didn't think anyone could do Martys voice, good stuff.

  • Love this video! Thank you so much for posting it!

  • Thank you so much for this!!! I don't just like, I love this! Seeing two greats sing and interact together is amazing. I'm too young to have seen this in person but I've been raised on great music like this.

  • This is just fantastic to see. Isn't that Bill Anderson also in the background that laughed. Two Great Legends!

  • Amazing.

  • This video definatly deserves 2 thumbs up and to the 17 people that disliked this video you suck.

  • l love the mutual respect these two top performers have of each other and they always complement the show in that manner ..and Yes Marty was awed at Merle's extra ordinary talent..God bless them both ..Thanks for posting

  • Absolutely awesome!

  • That look on Marty's face was priceless, LOL.

  • RIP Marty. 29 years ago today. You are sorely missed in country music.

  • Amazing.

  • near perfection

  • Merle and Marty.........can't get any better than this. I miss Nashville when Nashville was Nashville. I don't listen anymore, the music has very little talent. They all sound alike, and the women are the worst.

  • Some of the great moments in Musical History. Any kind of music.

  • Two of the Worlds greatest..artisa

  • my mum loved marty robbins she would have loved this thank you

  • Think it's just great, funny and Marty's face says it all.

  • I wish Nashville would get back to it's roots!

  • Merle a great impersonator.

  • Love it!

  • Haha what a treasure, This is great!

  • I remember seeing this when initially aired. What a great program this was. Until this airing, I knew Merle was a very gifted and talented singer but had no idea Merle was such a great impersonator. Lord, how I miss Country Music like this today (10-2011).

  • what a treasure.....unfortunately all we hear now is the same three chords over and over and over from Joe Mainstream accompanied by trashy lyrics and boring percussion.

  • Awesome ! :)

  • I love Marty Robbins!

  • How great! What a kick! Wonderful!

  • merle haggard and the strangers or is it the album okie from muskoggee merle haggard does all these impressions. you think this is good you should see him do Johnny cash impression.

  • Does anybody know if you can get a DVD with this entire show on it?

  • This is wonderful! I adore them both!

  • I love it

  • This is awesome.

  • Holy shit! Why didn't Merle just sing like that all the time!?

  • Excellent!! Loved it! Thanks for sharing!!!!!

  • hahaha Marty's like The fuck!?! he sounds just like him!

  • I really liked this video! I saw marty at Seaworld in Orlando many years ago when he appeared with Kenny Rogers. (I think it was kenny) After he played and Kenny was performing; Marty came onstage wearing an oversize pumpkin head. He seemed to love to joke around while performing.

  • I'm gonna' have to give Merle a new nickname in addition to 'The Hag'. He shall now be known as 'Mockingbird' Merle Haggard.

  • i want more i love this this was great what a show that would have been too see too bad iam only 41 born in the wrong year

  • That is some good o'l entertaiment there, you don't see that anymore

  • That was GREAT!

  • that was awesome....thanks for the video

  • Two greats

  • It is hard to imagine that Marty was older than Johnny, Willie, George, Merle, Buck, Waylong, etc. He acted so young for his age. Maybe that is why he was so popular with his fans.

  • Even on a bad day Marty could out sing Merle !!!!

  • I never did get to see Marty but to this day I thank God that was fortunate to hear his son Robbie perform at the the Comber Fair way back in 1981.I've listened to Marty Robbins records for over 50 years and he possibly had the best singing voice ever...and that night, as I listened to Robbie sing, I closed my eyes, and heard his Dad singing!! Incredible sound, and this video brought that memory back instantly....Thank You so much!!

  • ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT :-)

  • I had the privelige of hearing these artists -Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins, Carl Smith,Willie Nelson when he was sporting a crew cut hair cut. And so many others. The Memory still lingers in my heart.

    idacherasaroneal@comcst.net

  • Marty Robbins rocks!

  • Holy crap, Merle sounds more like Marty than Marty does! One of the greatest impersonations I've ever heard!

Two of the greatest legends in history in one video. This is historic footage.

  • Ralph Emery doing the talking in the back ground

  • Awesome!

  • I love this!!!!

  • great video by two great performers...thanks for the memory.

  • This is when men sang music.

  • Love this!![iminent=jEYTfAgUWfOB]

  • Two of my favorites. Merle did such a good job methinks it was fake. He sounded more like Marty than Marty did. Irrelevant as we all know both can sing, both are super talented and both more than deserve the title of "Legend".

  • That music makes me glad to have been born in the 60's. Getting old sucks, but good old music doesn't. Bravo

  • I LOVE this Video and not only for the music and seeing how much talent these two really have, but for the history. Thanks for sharing such wonderful memories.

  • Funny stuff! Thanks!

  • MH did a fabulous impersonation of MR. Beautiful video and thanks for sharing.

  • Awsome post

  • OMG Merle NAILED that impression of Marty Robbins!

  • @TheCrazyperson818 I've had the same thing happen!Better change your Email address!

  • This made me smile and laugh. Thanks for posting.

  • unbelievable!

  • good ole american music right there. absolutely the BEST...Merle has a vast amount of talent

  • That is amazing! I loved the look on Marty's face when Merle was singing. Priceless! Thank you!

  • merle is awsome...gotta love this clip.

  • That was awesome!! Was fun to watch, too!!

  • Merle did an exact imitation of Marty. That was amazing!

  • awesome stuff i wish we go back

  • that was awesome

  • i posted a waiting grave here because like myself a lot of people love country music i know it is not about country music but it is important so please forgive me

  • I have watched this video a number of times and shared it with friends. I have seen Marty and Merle in Concert. It would have been a treat to see them together. I love the look on Marty's face in the video when Merle hits the high notes on his songs.

  • Love it, Marty and Merle are the best.........

  • Love it! Marty and Merle are the very best.........

  • I have all Marty's old albums (33&1/3) the old ballads are priceless. I bought them when I was a teen back in the early 50's. They still play.

  • Marty Robbins melts my heart. Interesting.

  • What I would give to see a concert like this once in my life. Thank you for the wonderful video. Deb.

  • The looks on Marty's face at 1:35 and 3:01 are priceless. Without a doubt, Merle is the only man in the world that could possibly sing a Marty Robbins song better than Marty himself.

  • My two favorite singers and never knew that Merle did a perfect imitation of Marty Robbins. Just great, must play this again.

  • wow merle u are one of the greatest still

  • i was laughin when marty robbins and merle haggard did this together especially merle haggard impersonating marty robbins

  • Thanks BOBFORDD for uploading this clip. It brings back many happy memories.Merle's talents as abn impersonater are perfectly portrayed here. But most of all what a great talent Marty was. God rest his soul.

  • Wow, that's a damn fine impression.

  • I would love to know what Marty thought about Merle's impression of him.

  • Phenomenal!!! Thank you for sharing this gem!!

  • this is awesome!

  • These guys are the kings of Country. Marty Robbins' voice is like honey; he makes you want to sing with him.

  • Great video

  • wow that was great first time i ever saw this i loved it thanks for sharing

  • Shame about the quality but thanks for sharing.

  • thank you

  • Marty was a hugely talented guy with charisma , hes the kind of man that even a mans man just has to love even if you know your wife would leave you for him !!

  • two of my favorites, im 16

  • I absolutely loved this. Two greats together! I am now and have always been a HUGE Marty fan and after seeing this I like Merle even more than I already did!

  • Awesome, seeing two of my favorites together in their prime. Thats truley priceless, thank you so much for posting this treasure. Its like you did it just for me and I dont even know you, wow.

  • I'm a 35 yr old man.born and raised in south Boston Massachusetts.I absolutely love this video and the voice of marty Robbins

  • Great post... pity about the quality of the video, but still worth posting.

  • Wow! What a treasure you have here. I'll be back to see this over and over.

  • An UNUSUAL VIDEO it is. Thanks. A kingdom for Marty's coat.

  • Without a doubt the best that will ever be!!!

  • I had forgotten just how good Merle was at imitating Marty! Thanks for posting

  • This video is awesome. It gave me a new appreciation for Marty's singing but even more so for Merle Haggard's multi-talents. Just fantastic! Thanks for posting it.

  • wow that was just great

  • So entertaining. Two beautiful voices.

  • Great talent all around.

  • awesome and dont forget marty drove stock cars in nascars grand national division which was the top in its day

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOving this video to heroes of country in my book!

  • There is no one like Marty Robbins - RIP - your talent lives on forever.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • The first time I saw this clip was on the TNN series the George Jones Show, and I was shocked on how close Merle nailed Marty Robbins voice. I saw the full clip later on a Ralph Emery special. Could you even imagine being Ralph Emery? The man hung out with the biggest country legends for the last 60 years. I'd love to sit down with him and just talk about his experiences!

  • I am SO HAPPY to find this clip.. !!

I'd seen this as a kid.. Havent seen this in 30 years! :-) THANKS!!

  • Marty and Merle were just brillaint country singers. Thanks for introducing me to "Don't worry 'bout me" this became one of my mum's favourite Marty Robbins clips. I loved it so much I have taken the liberty of uploading my own version - Not a scratch on their version but who could come close? I hope it doesn't offend. Regards Ian

  • Merle is in his own right a king of country music...along with whitley, waylon, jones, and williams sr. this is just an amazing performance! and todays merle haggard and waylon jennings are Joe Nichols! and Easton Corban

  • Who is the man that set this up and what was the show they did it on??

    Anyone have the full clip?

  • This was on the Ralpy Emory show.

  • This is great, thanks for posting. Clint Eastwood reused this same schtick in "Honkeytonk Man" (great movie BTW if you like Marty). In the movie, Clint has TB and is trying to record a record, but has a coughin fit. Marty seamlessly picks up the part and does a Clint Eastwood impersonation to finish the recording.

Btw.. I had no idea Mearle could sing like this. I always though he was a dunce, but then I realized I was confusing him with Johnny "Don't Shoot me for Heckling" Paycheck :-)

  • sorry yall but merle was lip syncing no disrespect cause i love merle but that was definitely martys voice

  • @Cruhst Hate to disillusion you, but that was Merle. He imitated other singers to pass time on the bus between gigs.

  • @ramey58 yeah i know, i feel like a real dumbass now. ha ha

  • Great show. It would be good to see it all.

  • I loved the video! Both of these guys out class most of the so called country music singers of today. Its a shame that some of the people posting have to use such vulgar language. They expose themselves as uneducated people unable to express themselves any other way.

  • MERLE IS KING.....sorry not to be profantic!!!

  • There are over 200,000 adjectives in the English language and the only one you guys know is "fucking?" The ignorance is frightful. Learn the language before you display your stupidity to the entire world.

  • @LiquidxEviL And I wasn't trying to insult you in my last comment, I was just making an observation. I'm just guessing that the country songs you like are few and far between, and tend to be the more pop like country.

A much larger number of people agree that Merle is the better of the two, among the average person and professional music critic alike.

Again, there will never be a way to definitively determine who the better singer is, but the majority of the evidence places Merle on top.

  • @LiquidxEviL In totality there is way more evidence to suggest that Merle is a better singer than Marty. And based on your apparent attitude towards WIllie, and considering that you regard Mary so highly, a man who's style, realistically, can barely be labled as country music, makes me think that You're just a casual fan of country music, and that your ranking of these singers is almost entirely based on your style preference, rather than on who the better singer actualy is.

    Continued......

  • @LiquidxEviL There's absolutely nothing wrong with my claim. Your analogy is fundamentally flawed, because Merle hasn't just sang like that one single time, he's sang like that thousands of times, and in fact has done so periodically throughout his entire career. You're confusing style with ability.

And I wasn't using Merle's place on the list, nor his record sales, as a way to definitively prove that he's better, I'm simply making a case.

    Continued....

  • I loved it...it is so funny!!!! Thank you!

  • loved the video would like to know where can purchase a copy of the video and waht is the name of the video thanks e-mail is bicmomma@AOL.COM THANKS SO MUCH

  • If Marty and Merle were at their peak today, with today's country sound, just imagine how they'd tear it all up! They'd blow away most of the male country talent that is around today. Not knocking many of the fine acts that exist nowadays, but come on...these guys were amazingly gifted in a time when country was still in its twangy, middle of the road stage. The myriad of production tricks and the closeness to mainstream pop today? These guys would be the hugest stars.

  • I love this this is class

  • Merle is the MAN!

  • Marty was my hero. Merle, however, could have fooled me easy! This is greatness raging unchecked.

  • the look on marty's face priceless...love them both

  • Marty has this unique folkloric, unforgettable voice. Traveling down the roads of Texas at night going down to Mexico just across the Rio Grande from Starr County to see my sweet heart, waiting for me, I will always remember tuning the radio dial listening to Marty Robbins on the Truckers stations. I was 18 at the time, she was 17, at 21 finally married my only and true love in 81' and we have live happily ever after. This is how El Paso song should have ended, LOL.

  • incredible. super talent. by the way, both were incredible and talented entertainers.

  • incredible. super talent.

  • Yes that was awesome...truly awesome..

  • people overlook the fact the Merle has making great music for decades now. we saw Merle in concert just last summer & he sounded awesome..looks like hell...but sounded great...

Merle's got Marty down on this one..LOL i luv em both

  • That's delightful!

  • I like Merle but Marty is in my opinion the better of the two.

  • the 12 people that didn't like this can kiss my ass.

  • Awesome.

  • marty &merle are both very talented singers ,each has there own style! you couldnt listen to all the songs they sang in 3 or 4 hours theres a lot of em..the sad thing is their style is not common now a days.

  • Merle Haggard is a better Marty Robbins than Marty Robbins is.

  • @gixzo Yeah!!! You are so right! Merle has ---I can't explain it!

  • I CAN'T AGREE WITH THIS.......IF THEY BOTH RECORDED THAT SONG INDEPENDENTLY IN A STUDIO......NO QUESTION MARTY WOULD BLOW HAGGARD AWAY. IT'S HIS SONG. HAGGARD'S VOICE IS MORE HARSH.

  • @LiquidxEviL rofl, what a biased statement, based entirely on emotion, throwing logic out the window. The harshness in Merle's voice is part of his style, he can sing perfectly smooth, and there are countless recorded examples of him doing so. Even Marty himself knew that merle was better than him.

  • @Steve406SBC EMOTION? ARE YOU A PANSY OR SOMETHING LOL. SURE IT'S HIS STYLE.......BUT I CAN LISTEN TO MARTY ROBBINS LONGER THAN I CAN LISTEN TO MERLE....... IT'S LIKE LISTENING TO A ROY ORBISON DISC ALL DAY, THEIR VOICES START TO GET ON YOUR NERVES.......UNLESS UR A HILLBILLY REDNECK. AND OVERALL.......MARTY'S SONGS ARE MORE REMEMBERABLE......AND EPIC.......EL PASO, A WHITE SPORT COAT, YOU GAVE ME A MOUNTAIN, COME ON. ANOTHER REASON NOT TO LISTEN TO HIM IS THAT HE SINGS WITH WILLY LMFAO

  • @LiquidxEviL Am I a pansy for you basing "YOUR" opinion on emotion? I'm sorry but that doesn't make any sense. It may get ony "your" nerves, but that's just you. Merle scores higher on every list than Marty does. Both Merle and Willy made Rolling stones magazine's "100 best singers of all time" list, with Merle making #77, while Marty didn't make the list at all. You may not want to accept it, but there's a reason for that.

    Continued.....

  • @LiquidxEviL Music critics all across the board agree that Merle is the better singer, and fans do as well, and this fact is illustrated quite clearly when you compare each of their record sales, and concert attendance. You're in the minority in your opinion of the two singers. Willie (who you laugh at) also always ranks higher than Marty, and has way higher record sales and concert attendance.

    Continued......

  • @SteveSbc406 MERLE HAGGARD FANS AGREE THAT MERLE IS THE BETTER SINGER !!!! LMAO

ISN'T WHY THEY'RE CALLED FANS??? NO, IT'S CAUSE MERLE HAGGARD FANS REALLY LIKE MARTY ROBBINS BETTER......... TRY TO ARGUE MUCH........

  • @LiquidxEviL And apparently you're missing the point anyway because regarding his fans specifically, why dont you tell me why you think Merle has/had way more fans than Marty? And why don't you give me your opinion as to why the majority of their fellow country singers rank Merle higher as well?

Yeah, I wouldnt have been so nice in my response to your other post had I known you were such a prick in this one

And no, I dont try to argue. I flat out win arguments, every single time I have 1

  • @Steve406SBC AND NO, I DON'T LIKE EITHER OF THEM. MARY ROBBINS COMES ON THE RADIO......YH OK THAT'S A NICE SONG. MERLE COMES ON.......HIS OWN STYLE.

GIVING CREDIT FOR SOMETHING YOU NEVER HEAR DON'T WORK WIT ME. THAT'S WHAT LOSERS DO.

SAYING HE CAN SING LIKE MARTY, WHEN YOU NEVER HEAR IT IS MEANINGLESS.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT 1000 TIMES IS??

  • @LiquidxEviL Losers give credit for things they never hear? That's the definition of a loser huh? lol.

Based on your ingorant logic, a person must sing outside of their stylistic preference on a regular basis in order for them to be good at other styles of singing? Merle doesn't need to sing in a smoother more operetic style every day for me to know he can do it. I've heard him do it early in his career, and I've heard him do it periodically over the years since then

    Continued.......

  • @LiquidxEviL What he's capable of doing, is in fact what he's capable of doing, regardless of whether he does it every day or not.

What if Merle quit singing altogether 30 years ago, does that mean that he technically would have lost his ability to sing the same day he chose to quit? You sir, are a moron.

And regarding your last sentence, 1000 times what? 1000 times 200 = 200,000.

If you're looking for the answer to a mathematical equation you need to be more specific.

  • @LiquidxEviL Merle may "CHOOSE" to sing predominantly in a particular style, but its just that, him "choosing" to sing that way. His actual ability, overall diversity and range is for more dynamic than Marty's. Every single thing that Marty does in his songs, Merle is capable of doing as well. But Marty, at no point in his career, was ever capable of doing all that Merle is/was capable of.

Your own personal preference of singers doesn't change who the actual better singer is in reality.

  • marty had tv show n the 80's merle guested

  • @thelibertinesrock I'm not sure I understand the significance of that statement.

  • Have you met a woman named "Merle" Well I am Merle Kristiane Hutchison

born 12/24/1943 I love your music and just got the nerve to let you know.

    Thank you , merle

  • @twistdterry I had a cousin named Merle, a woman.

  • simply great!!!!!!!!

  • I love them both and I have heard them together... but I've listened to this many, many times and you can tell who is who, quite easily. Yet, I still like this piece.

  • It must have been the early-mid '70's...

    (I was born in '62)

...when I "discovered" Marty Robbins via my older step-brother's 8-track of a "Greatest Hits" album.

What a great, great talent - then and now.

Too bad more kids aren't exposed to his music today.

Funny... just the other day I was wandering around the lot of my Dodge dealership while my car was in the shop and one of the workers - probably in his 60's - was playing Marty Robbins on the radio of the car he was vacuuming.

    A sign!

  • You gotta love that two legends of the Country music industry basicly jamming and having a good time. Would love to see more

  • I saw Merle in concert doing this imitation, as well as that of Johnny Cash, and others. Merle can sing just like Cash; but could Cash sound like Merle? Nobody can. Merle is the ultimate singer, writer and picker. He surpasses anyone past or present. He is the number one country male singer (sorry, Cash fans) of all time.

  • @haggardsno1fan Buddy Emmons was asked who is his favorite all around country singer, his reply was Merle Haggard.

  • Bloody fantastic. Two of the greats of Country. I can listen to those two blokes all day. Thanks for posting. I've got you locked in my favorites. Cheers from Australia. Aussie Col

  • Great video, thanks for posting!!

  • Two of the best ever!!!

  • i love this my favorite kind of guys

  • Thats funny ! classic.

  • Brilliant clip, had a good laugh, both are superb, Thanks for posting.

    Regards Peter

  • This was fantastic,,,Merle sounds just like Marty...Love them both..
