i wrote the lyrics to this song on my ceiling in my late teens ( some years back ! ) love steves look to camera at .54. Fantastic lyrics and great memories thanks for posting
Lyrically. it seems to be a stream of conciousness thing, image to image. I tried writing like that, but the brew didn't taste good. Could you ever connect it into anything, or just have fun with the pictures type thing. I remember m friends were so distrustful of this band, pouncing on every stylistic mistake, every pretension, and yet they have endured.
Great song. This and Unguarded Moment are far and away the best I've heard by the Church. The other songs on Youtube I've listened to by them just don't measure up to these two. I had this album in the early 80's and love their sound.
@headmasterritual957 I agree start with 'When you were Mine'. But do go out and buy ''after everything now this" it's a fantastic cd, especially ' the awful ache' superb song you will never get enough of it.
I've been a Church fan eversince The Unguarded Moment song was aired on a local melbourne music show'Countdown'.
I love this video! It looks as if they're just hanging out, at band practice or something. My uncle showed me a picture of him with Steve in a club somewhere in London from the 80s, he really got me into the Church - amen!
The end is one of the best climaxes ever written in rock history, but I love the whole song. All the guys were perfect, but it wasn't Ploog who recorded the drums but Nick Ward. Wonderful playback.
truly unique...amazing stuff thanks great post and what an exceptional group of musicians. they work on so many levels, just great to hear and watch them perform
thank you so much for putting this up steve. hard to believe how few people have peeped it, but thank god it's here for the few of us who absolutely LOVE it (and you too, btw)!
Real Church sound. Love this song! They are all so unassuming and have always been so.

It's Maggie May, and you can sing along, "Maggie, I wish, I'd never seen your face!"

VERY peculiar technique the drummer has for holding the stick in his left hand. (close up at end)

@enialbsitruc I'm glad you like these songs it shows you have taste
but quite simply "you're not a Church fan". These are two songs from their
first album - they're great as is a lot of other songs off Of Skins and Heear
but to say their other songs don't measure up is insult (not intended by you I know). Listen some more....Perhaps start with 'When you were Mine'
and work your way forward.

I'd never really heard it before but there's a lot of David Bowie in the Church, isn't there? I mean this in a good way, of course.
