  • this song brings back good memorys... fuck i had a good childhood

  • DANK DANK DOCKS:

Smoke smoke smoke smoke we-ed every, day.

Smoke smoke smoke smoke we-ed every, day.

  • Super Mario 64, My favorite game of all time.

    Period.

  • im only 12 and i was so lucky to have super mario 64. i remember after every single level my heart gave a jump :) and this song was so peaceful to me , it brings back memories :)

  • I remember everything...

  • What... how... I can't comprehend how even a single person could have disliked this video, let alone 35. Seriously, what? If they're disagreeing that it's on the Best VGM list, they're clearly deaf. Guys, you shouldn't be rating music if you can't hear it.

  • 35 people need to chill the fuck out to this song.

  • So much better than Galaxy, this game is part of my childhood

  • Just cultic. This song reminds me of good ol` times :)

  • Ok, time to dust off the ol' N64. :)

  • The Galaxy games are pretty awesome, but they harken back to more of a 2D style obstacle course. Super Mario 64 had WORLDS. Ones that you could explore. Sure you had to find out how to get through some obstacles to get to the star. But the world was open for exploration. I think that's what really makes people like SM64 over the Galaxy games or vice versa.

I like personally like SM64 better, but the Galaxy games were good too imho.

All of that aside. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the music.

  • @WNCaptainjOE that's exactly how i think, th courses are the worlds, and the power stars are the stages

  • Please make that eel go away :D

  • I love this song so much. I am definitely going to attempt to create a calm orchestral remix of this song. I don't know when though.

    *presses the Like button*

  • this song made me so depressed back in the dayz haha

  • What the hell is this? People who don't like Mario 64, but think Galaxy is ok? There must be 13 year olds in here.

  • i hated this game, I'm sorry but SM 64 was boring and tedious.

Banjo Kazooie and DK64 were better games.

    I'm sorry.

  • @GreasyGhoul eat shit, nerd.

  • @buttgolem

yes call me a nerd ON A FUCKING GAMING MUSIC VIDEO.

    fucking idiot.

  • @GreasyGhoul It wasn't an insult until you made it be, you self loathing asshat.

  • i wish i had this =(

  • This level was hard. When I played Super Mario 64, DK64 and my other N64 games it was more about exploring than completing objectives... partially because I was just a kid and also because those games were F'ing hard!

  • Dorkly Pwn Up brought me here.

  • Nintendo ... I love you ... But i hate you ...

You maked the Greatest games ever but ....

The memories of them hit me too hard ...

  • @CreepaPunch stop with all those ...'s, you faggot.

  • Didn't like the level. Loved the music.

  • @socalveteran73

Same here. I never thought the control in Mario 64 was the tightest, especially in the water levels. I prefer my Mario games to be 2D anyway, though I think the Galaxy games on Wii are decent.

  • The Eel was always special to me somehow as well as the ship wait....you know what, the whole stage was :)

  • before i pressed play i was feeling stressed. :)

  • Todays game music?

    Nothing

  • @ecko1922 what game music? You mean the sound of firing guns, exploding grenades, and little dumbass kids getting pissed and yelling through their miss?

i feel bad for those kids that didn't see what a REAL game was ^.^

  • THE PICTURE IS JOLLY RODGER BAY!!!!!

  • @EpicInEd

Dire Dire Docks & Jolly Roger Bay Both have this Music, in case you weren't aware. :)

  • It's games like these that make me a little bit sad that I wasn't born 5, 10 years earlier.

Oh well, at least they remake a lot of these. XD

  • @ClearPearl Go buy up an old N64 and go to town. :p It's well worth it.

  • @bgoodrick agreed, I'm still glad i have my old 64 ^.^

  • Ya Wa YaHooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

  • Time machine now!!!

  • 35 persons didn't have childhood.

  • @vmattz1 Best comment ive seen in forever i totally agree with you

  • Don't look around your home.

Don't worry about life around you.

For 3 minutes and 7 seconds.

    Just put on your headphones.

And let your mind float across the waters of peace.

  • @GmaerXQ Amen ^^

  • I.....HATE.....THAT.......EEL!!!!!!

  • this song is awesome its just so calming, it makes you feel like your in the sea yourself!.

  • loved this game. still play it from time to time. I remember going to Jolly Roger's and getting the crap scared out me when I encountered the eel. born in 1990. 90's babies unite.

  • I'm starting to become a bit more of a Modern Gamer. I have FPS games, which I enjoy. But as fun as they are, they don't beat the powerful emotion that retro games like this capture. I'd much rather play only SNES or N64 era games for the rest of my life than next-gen games.

People say I'm too young to be a 90's kid, being born in the mid-to-late 90s. But hey, even if I missed out a little, I'm dedicating a large part of me to reliving it as best possible. Games come and go, but these never die.

  • Man, this music brings back some memories. I used to play this level and the level with the giant eel in it. I forgot what it was called, but I know it was Course 3. And the Aquarium had this music too. It's just so peaceful, ah, I just might fall asleep to this peaceful 10 out of 10 tune.

  • The reason video games 'suck' today is because they've moved far from the personal leven that they had before. Now that there's online gaming, pretty much every game, even the single player oriented ones, are done so with a community in mind. In the glory days, with games like OOT and Paper Mario, Donkey Kong 64 and Sonic Adventure, they created a world that people can get lost in. While there are some exceptions nowadays, most games now are flashy and purely for community. I miss the old days

  • @vmattz1 ► ^THIS.

  • @vmattz1 I agree. Even games designed with a community in mind back then were better. Like Super Smash Bros, or Mario Party, for example.

  • sounds a little like "A Whole New World" from Disneys Aladdin xD

  • Comment removed

  • i feel privileged to have lived the best Video game era EVER!!! the 90's

  • @nintendude57 i cant but i´d made my own Era with Nes, Snes & 64 ^^

  • @nintendude57 indeed...

  • @nintendude57 damn, right!

  • I was born in 1996, I hate shooters, (except for timeslpitters, and n64 rare shooters), my favorite series is FF, (which I own and have completed all of), and my favorite game is OOT, needless to say keeping a successful social life is hell.

  • this song always takes me back to when I use to go to my cousins and play and remember my aunt which passed

  • One of my favorite musics

  • This comment section is filled with nostalgia-obsessed assholes. Every console generation had at least 3 or 4 oversaturated genres. Remember Space Invaders? You bet that there were a bunch of games that were trying to take its place. How about Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, Tetris. Super Mario Bros, and Super Mario 64? All starts of oversaturated genres. Hell, 2011 is probably more imaginative than the 90's, with the rise of indie devs and all. It's be nice if you can see games without a rosy tint.

  • @QWERTYCommander

    lemme guess, born in 2001?

  • @TangerineGroovin

I started gaming around then. The N64 was my first gaming system, and my neighbors had an NES which I also played a lot. So yes, I think I do have the right to call out nostalgia trippers when I see them.

  • @QWERTYCommander Just wait, till you hit the 28-35 yr old mark and you'll be saying the same things. Live a life first, then we'll sit down and shoot the breeze. Until then, stick to what you know.

  • anyway time to sample this bish

  • i still play this game on project64 and goldeneye i still play on the real n64 lol (gave someone this game awhile back and yeh i aint seein it again lol)

  • I remember leaving my N64 on at night just so i could fall asleep with this playing...

  • ...You can milk a good one for all it's worth? That's what I think people mean. You can take what I think, or leave it. I don't care. Genre-wise, on the other hand, FPS or Action and hardcore shoved casual away, if you've noticed. I think that's another point people try- And fail- to clarify. Don't get me wrong at all: There are also a bunch of casual games. But look at the achievements on today's games. Multiplayer this, multi that. ._.

  • You know what? I may be just a kid from 97, but I find nintendo games to be the best games ever...... Sony and Microsoft's systems are meaningless to me...... Thanks brother for showing me nintendo stuff growing up <3

  • @shinysuicune123 Kid, I now knight thee, an honorary 80's baby. Welcome to the gang probie. You must now only watch the old Tranformers, HE-Man, Captain Planet, Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Your ringtone will only be a choice of Mc Hammer: Can't Touch This, Tag Team: Whoomp There It Is, Snow: Infomer or Boyz II Men: MowtownPhilly. And go buy a pair of Happy/Parachute pants, a pair of Original Air Jordans/Reebok Pumps and bleached tips in your hair...

  • WHERE IS NESSIE? I SHALL RIDE THEE!

  • @RoxyChoxi You do that, and I'll go chase Unagi around in Jolly Roger Bay. :D

  • What a true classic. I will never forget the level where I single handed-ly raised a a sunken pirate ship in Jolly Roger Bay & narrowly dodged a giant eel!

  • I will admit that the n64 was amazing, but there are still amazing games out right now!! and amazing music!! It's just that the general population of gamers play bad games :(

  • the first system im giving my kid is an n64 and a gameboy color

  • Love that hip hop beat that slowly comes in around 1:45..........

  • Mario 64 was the best!!!!!!!!!! God, if I couöd return to the goood old dYS½!

  • that picture is from jolly roger bay, and I love this song.

  • HEARING DIS SONG REMINDS ME OF MY CHILDHOOD WEN I JUST USE TO LOOK AT MY BRODER PLAY N I WAS TRYING TO PLAY LIKE HIM BUT I COULDNT IF I HAD A WISH IT WOULD BE TO PLAY DIS AGAIN AS A 2 YEAR OLD

  • I love games of the 90's so much that I feel the need to point something out, and I know I'm a complete nerd/geek/whatever term is trending for being able to say this accurately. Isn't that a picture from Jolly Roger Bay? Love this song btw.

  • 34 people never found the first painting

  • @mimilo131 Oh come on that unoriginal comment is so OLD!!

  • Nothing like popping in the cartridge, flipping the switch and let the tears of nostalgia just flow. Damn I miss 1996.

  • One of my favorite Videogme Soundtracks Ever!

  • 34 people were eaten by the giant eel

  • This particular epic classic and true beauty of a tune spiritual sisters/brothers/cousins alongside the tune of/in Zora's Domain in Zelda 64? I tend to consideredly regard so.

  • I do like myself a shooter, or a good RPG, but this game right here, is amazing. I still pull out my N64 and play it.

  • Absolute favorite of all time.

  • 1.484 people still have their N64

  • Like everyone else says, the 80's and 90's ruled.

  • i luv this game and this music is soo relaxing :)

  • Why does everyone call this the dire dire docks theme? It's heard first in jolly rodger bay.

  • @Nirofues The Soundtrack officially lists this track as Dire Dire Docks, that's why.

  • If you happen to have Atmosphere or Omnisphere, the patch "Lucky Lyle's Lead" sounds really great for the melody in this track. I recommend modifying it so there's no pitch ramp on the attack, but whatevs.

  • music like keygen

  • Nothing on "CrapBox" can compare to this...

  • People of today: LOOOOOLOLOL! WHAT IS THIS KID SHIT?!? MARIO?! YOU CAN'T EVEN SHOOT SOMEONE IN THESE GAMES... AND ZELDA?! HAHA LOLOL HE IS SO GAY LOOK AT HIM.

I'm 16. And I HATE my generation. Good to be one of the people with knowledge.

  • @TheSqueezey i so agree, and on the other side kid game are sooooooooo easy no challenge... we finished our mario 64 banjo tooie etc with all our sweat and cheez it worthed it!

  • @TheSqueezey hehe 16 in 3 monthes, and I'm with ya

  • @Mario7746 @cloudyboy16 So nice to see people with a good taste in video games T_T :))

  • @TheSqueezey :)

  • @TheSqueezey I TOTALLY know how you feel, kids are always pestering me for being a "Nintendo Junkey" and how I should "Get with the generation..."

    Then I say to them:

"Say what you want, but gaming would be NOTHING if it weren't for Mario and Zelda."

    NINTENDO ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!

  • @PaintingKid43219 Yeeeah Nintendo ! *_* I already "lost" all my friends because they switched from Wii to XBOX :(( And they LIKE CoD. Everytime I play Call of Duty, I'm already bored after 5 minutes ! D:

  • @TheSqueezey that is because, unlike you, they do not have lives.

  • @TheSqueezey I hear you, bro.

I remember that whenever I invite friends to play Brawl, they get bored after like 10 minutes, I spend hours on it.

And when I showed them a trailer of Dead Space, they were all "WHY DON'T YOU HAVE THESE KIND OF GAMES!?"... Pretty sad, isn't it?

  • @TheSqueezey i feel your pain. im 16 too and love classic game. i hate it when people insult mario or zelda. kids today dont know the history of gaming. *sigh*

  • How can anybody dislike this song?

  • Born in 1993, the 90's and early 2000's were really the best years a kid could grow up in...

  • born in 1990 and i remember these good memories posted

  • Lets face it. Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Zelda Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye everybody became attached to N64.

  • @xKingJingalingx Don't forget Super Smash Bros., Donkey Kong 64, Pokemon Stadium, Banjo-Kazooie, and other games that brought us all to loving the N64 to death. Such an excellent childhood....;_;

  • @AshisogiiJizo Ah hells yes. i just didn't name those games because i thought others wouldn't notice. but yea. all the games both you and i listed. only games i'd play

  • Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and Goldeneye is why we all bought an Nintendo 64. Face it

  • Man, I was just a kid when I played this. Super Mario 64 had it all - the music, the gameplay, an entire world. It allowed your imagination to run wild and explore.

  • One of the top songs in all of video games.

  • I could never get the last few stars to open up the stupid cannon outside the castle :( Fun game to play non-the less

  • Classics will live forever!

  • Born in 1991 with all the great colourful, happy, super childhood building games I was, suffering in 2011 with all the cold, meaningless, killing purposes games I am................The 90's games everyday all day!

  • @Mocroskate Those games are still around mate! They just aren't advertised on ESPN and don't sell a million copies, but they do exist.

  • @Mocroskate Actually, the 90's did had some violent games like doom and mortal kombat and metal gear solid.

  • @Mocroskate oh my gosh, I really understand what you mean! I'm pretty much the only person in my class at school who doesn't like war games. Everyone is just stuck in the cold, killing games.

  • @TheSammy58 That's right! Be yourself bro and stick with your opinion, don't let them suck you into the world of blood, war and suffering fuck em!

  • @Mocroskate man i envy you. i was born in 1999 and all my friends play shooters. luckily my first system was a snes and now i play mostly casual games. most of the kids at school think i am gay for wanting rayman origins for christmas and not mw3 or gears of war 3. still glad i got the snes for $3.00

  • Rayman origins is sah-weet...def would recommend over mw3 simply for the fact that mw is raping the franchise for everything its got. Gears of War ain't all that bad though...Games definitely suck today but to suggest that ALL games today suck and harp on first person shooters is kinda lame. Everything has a place...be open-minded and fair in your thoughts/posted opinions.

  • @BWAcolyte This is what I have tried to accomplish in conversations with people. But it seems to be that you have to include EVERY game of today in one's list of 'good games,' or to be narrow minded enough to say that today's games- No matter what they are- Are better than 90s games. I agree, We have amazing games today. But many are milked until they're dry. Of course, 90's games did the same. But in terms of when they're popular, they were the same. People don't like to see it like that though

  • @stupidmariobros8989 you're mighty eloquent for a middle schooler.

  • @stupidmariobros8989 hate people like that. Go you! I mean, totally! Congratulations for being you! Show everyone else in the world that you don't have to own an Xbox to be cool. Show everyone that maybe a game that isn't filled with violence is good every now and then. I hate most shooters for that reason. People are so into violence and blowing up things now that no one takes the time to enjoy anything "lighter" and stuff. We live in such a media over-powered world now...

  • @stupidmariobros8989 Niece. But still those days aren't just platformers etc. I enjoy all games (no i don't mean modern stupid fps). I talk about Doom, Quake, Quake 2 and list goes on.

  • @stupidmariobros8989 Don't be so down. Just look at those lost souls who were unfortunate to have lived in the 90s. You still show some semblance of hope of knowing a good game when you see one. I was born in 88 by the way if my comment doesn't seem "authentic". :)

  • @Tshot88 1988! Yeah of the Heavy Metal Dragonborn! haha

  • @stupidmariobros8989 You got an SNES for $3.00, f*ck I'm jelly.

  • @stupidmariobros8989 but why should they judge you on your taste in *COUGH INCREDIBLY GOOD COUGH* games?

  • @Mocroskate Yeah, I love the game of the 90's too, I wish they could make more classic games like that instead of some of the crap they have now!

  • @Mocroskate

Take off your rose-tinted glasses. Or are they glued to your ears? Comparing a military FPS to a platformer is the stupidest thing someone can do.

  • @QWERTYCommander Thank you thank you jesus christ thank you. I'm sick to shit of all these nostalgia trip faggot hipsters scumming up the comment section with their shit about games "not being good anymore."

  • @Mugikarp

The comments are like this for every single old-school Nintendo soundtrack. They seem to be forgetting that the industry back then was just as oversaturated with other genres.

  • @Mugikarp And to you: If you're 'sick to shit' of all these 'nostalgia trip faggot hipsters,' then why do you bother to read the comments? You're only putting it on yourself. Whenever you call someone out for posting their nostalgia, it only makes you look like a prick because you commented on something you could avoid. And when they say that games 'are no longer good,' they mean that the variety and creativity has gone down. I haven't seen anything creative beyond Nintendo and Rainbow6 in ages.

  • @ValericClandon That last bit is where you're batshit crazy. You haven't seen ANYTHING creative? You are an absolute fucking idiot if you think there hasn't been any creativity going into games coming out nowadays. These older games are awesome and I love them, but there is no damn reason to bash newer games for the sake of "the classics." None of the game developers are comparing themselves to Mario 64, they're trying to make their own fucking games. People need to realize that.

  • @Mugikarp One: Don't start insulting me. That's pathetic. Two: Let me REPHRASE THAT. How many games have jumped out of the confines of what you normally see, and are huge hits? Sure, you have AC, Bioshock, Fallout. But those are sequels like CoD and BF are. I've seen really creative games (Bastion? Great game), but they don't make impacts. That's what I think people mean. The originals no longer make big imprints as all of the sequels do. So why bother making a new game, if ...

  • @ValericClandon

How does making a sequel change anything? Like there weren't any sequels in your precious generation -_-

  • @QWERTYCommander Did I say that? No. Most companies slap together sequels to keep an audience entertained and fixed within certain lines. Maybe if you actually read my full conversation, you would say something other than that bullshit. And don't start bitching about 'nostalgia-obsessed assholes.' Honestly, by posting that, you're looking for attention and fights. It's clear that you're unwilling to discuss and have something decent to say. Side note, my childhood and generation is ruined, so.

  • @QWERTYCommander Essentially, you can bitch about these 'faggots' and 'assholes' and compare a 90s game with today. But that only makes you look like the villain. Because you never, EVER compare a saturated classic with something of 11-12. Mario, Sonic, Mega Man. Those were good back then. Not as good now of course. But you cannot compare a multi-million dollar modern day company, or an Indie developer with today's tools to a classic, and say the classic sucks. PMSing over opinions... Really?

  • @QWERTYCommander Uh... QWERTY? He was saying that between the 90s and today's games, he's still a 90s guy to and through. He wasn't comparing any game at all to begin with...

  • @Mocroskate There are still amazing games out right now. Honestly, some of the best gaming experiences I've ever had have come from this generation, and I've been gaming since the days of the SNES.

  • Mario 64 is defiantly one of the defining moments of the millennial generation. The silent generation had the moon lending, the boomers had the Vietnam, gen-x had... uh... whatever they had....(woodstock?), we've got the good ol' 64. And, to me, Mario 64 is the crowning jewel of the days of the 64.

  • @R2BDSi Why are you hating on Zelda fans?

  • Hands for those who are thinking of that annoying eel right now o/

  • This makes me tear. REALLY BADLY! =,-(

  • @PaperMarioN64Gamer15 WTF? I'ts only a game -.-

  • @hanako7621 just a figure of speech. it's not the game itself but the opera soundtracks they used throughout the game from castle walls to the opening. =)

  • @PaperMarioN64Gamer15 Heheh srry for my other comment ;P Yeah I think the same way like you! (: <3

  • @hanako7621 Never underestimate the power of a good video game.

  • @Chokoboh Hahaha ok , I'll change my opinion. In fact , I think this is a really good game and yeah, the music is amazing. (:

  • @PaperMarioN64Gamer15 hahaha wierd same thing with me just too many good memories!

  • I am a guy and this music almost brings me to tears remembering those happier times playing these games and it kills me that the only games people talk about today are shooter games... :(

  • @RandomGuyInAHat Oh yeah, you aren't cool if you don't play Call of Doody or Lamo Reach. Way back when was a time of REAL gaming instead of the overhyped garbage being spewed out today.

  • This music creeps me out because it reminds me of that eel. Monstrous thing...

  • when was the last time a game had this much emotion in its essence

  • nostalgia ftw :)

  • I have not grown up with this game like many other people have. However, this song is amazing. I may not have had this game during my childhood, however this song actually brings back so many memories of that time.

  • If Brian Eno had written this Pitchfork would be all over this like a fly around shit. This is fantastic.

  • this is the tune my girlfriend and i made out to. <3

  • this youtube vid has more views than any other video game music file.

  • @jkaczman wrong. /watch?v=HFKtYCcMWT4 also TONS more i could show you. this oen is my fav and it has more views than this. /watch?v=J67nkzoJ_2M That's not to say i don't love this song..

  • -Looks at comments-

    ...

Everything needed to say has been said, amen.

  • Plz god return me to my lovely childhood with my best friend MARIO.......Really missing that amazing days.:)

  • I am still amazed how could they make something this good for cartige quality and that time, for real?! It's great!

  • @LightFykki The problem is that now , compagny dont think when doing one ...

This one is awesome because you feel like in the place ...

  • I think hardly any other Video Game soundtrack can generate more nostalgia than this piece.
