Dear Born Again Pagan Celts of the Nomadic Free World, lets celebrate (((March 17th and the 18th))) as (((Celtic Pagan Liberation Day))). If you are Proud to be a Born Again Celtic Pagan wear all Green in the remembrance of the Druid Government at The Hill of Tara
The point behind the statue of Samantha Stevens, Hollywood witch, is this. Many a modern witch (of a certain age) looked at her, and for the first time, saw a positive image of a witch. She made many of say to ourselves "why not?' and start the path to finding out what it meant to be a real witch.
"..there are other candidates worthier to have a large bronze statue standing in their memory. ..The statue seems more like a metal commercial."
1. Salem's heroes aren't forgotten: you mentioned many of them, and the living city is a monument to them too. 2. We don't erect only statues of heroes. Many city statues are simply "art", for enjoyment. 3. Why not start a drive to get other statues erected if you feel that the more deserving have been slighted? (Did Salem pay for this statue? No.)
"I'm a local who found the statue quite offensive. Why couldn't they have wasted their money on someone who ACTUALLY HAD SOMETHING TO DO with Salem, huh?? It was disgraceful."
Why so? "Bewitched" dealt with intolerance and "being different" in a humorous way. The Salem witch trials dealt with the same in a horrific way. As intolerance and "being different" are human traits, I'd say that the statue has everything to do with Salem, which is after all, a city of living people, not just history.
But there are other candidates are worthier to have a large bronze statue standing in their memory. What happened to all the abolitionists, the war heroes, the community-service people, the many sailors who never returned to this bustling port? Those who had lived in Salem? The city, enriched in history, has almost every type of role model you could ever ask for. Why do they continue to go unrecognized?
Boston has bronze statues of Mrs. Mallard and her ducks on Boston Common. They didn't fight in any war, or go to sea, or find a cure for cancer. People love them though. They make people smile, and are part of the fabric of the modern-old city.
"This sculpture has been placed here as a tribute to Robert McCloskey whose story 'Make Way For Ducklings' has made the Boston Public Garden Familiar to Children Throughout the World ... 1987."
If you mean the shorter gentleman with the top hat standing with the taller gentleman with the pointed hat- he is Christian Day, but with the poor quality of video after it hits youtube compression I can see the similarity between Christian and Wind.
the movie Bewitched had nothing to do with Pagans, it was fiction. Also the people that were burned in the witch trials were not witches infact they were killed because they wouldn't "confess" to being witches because of there strong Christian religion. I don't have anything againt other religions but seriously....
1. Some aspects of modern neo-Paganism have nothing to do with historical Paganism either, and are fiction. 2. Some in old Salem may actually HAVE practiced a folk version of the Craft. 3. It's a fun statue in a market area. No one seriously believes that Samantha Stevens represents real witches. She's a beloved icon. Period.
True. But the TV series had nothing to do with Pagans. It was about a fictional witch. The words "witch" and "Pagan" are not interchangeable. Not all Pagans are witches, and not all witches are pagans.
Thank you for your prayers, we're all praying for you as well, TVland and Bewtiched need your prayers also because that's what the video is all about.

You make a reasonable point, lichtbroeder.

Yes, those statues are beautiful examples of public art.
Also, the reason why those statues are there is because the story "Make Way for Ducklings" is set in Boston.

The plaque near it reads:
"This sculpture has been placed here as a tribute to Robert McCloskey whose story 'Make Way For Ducklings' has made the Boston Public Garden Familiar to Children Throughout the World ... 1987."

Not me. I'm a local who found the statue quite offensive.
Why couldn't they have wasted their money on someone who ACTUALLY HAD SOMETHING TO DO with Salem, huh??
It was disgraceful.
