I hope they were good! I love burgers. The only thing I would've done differently is that I usually make them kinda thin. The problem is that, as you said, you want there to be a perfect balance of pink inside and cooked outside. A thinner burger needs less time to cook through, so you can crank up the heat and it'll form a nice crust on the outside without burning, and stay pink in the middle.
what you do is after you make the patty, push your finger in the middle so it leaves a dent, that way when it shrinks, your left with a nice even and flat burger, instead of a flying saucer shape. trust me on this one, im a chef. yay

I got it from a watermelon that was cut with an uncleaned knife, You could get it from just about anything if it was used to cut meat. How do you know it was the hamburger?

Um, he was at a cub scout camp cookout, and he actually noticed that the hamburger was a pink, but he was like 9 at the time so he ate it anyways, not really knowing any better- and then a couple days later... yeah. He was in the hospital for a week =/
EXACTLY, did you know that if you buy beef already ground, or eat a hamburger from a place like McDonalds, you are potentially eating beef from a hundred different animals in one burger? Contamination probability shoots way up under these circumstances.
If you must eat beef, buy grass fed and grind it yourself for the safest eating!

My parents use a burger press. It works quite nicely and it takes no time to do a pile of burgers. Always nice to go home for a home made burger.

you know, hamburgers should really be fully cooked all the way through.
See, when the meat is all ground up, the bacteria gets spread everywhere, even the middle.
They're not like steaks, where only the outside needs to be cooked for it to be safe.
So even if the pink stuff is more delicious, in hamburgers it's not really safe...
I only say this as someone whose brother once had E-Coli from an undercooked hamburger.
