  • 4 dislike = anti baseball

  • Virtuoso musician and comedian all in one.

  • Enthralling piece

  • I love when he plays this tune he does such a wonderful job!! I recorded this episode of Lucy and rewinded this part over and over again .

  • You know -- this show was groundbreaking in so many ways. This is a very rare moment in television history. Normally, the studio audience is downright raucous in its laughter as it is responding to the many, now iconic, comedy routines. But here -- they are so quiet you can hear a pin drop. And then, at the end of the piece, the thunderous applause speaks for itself.

  • I love watching Harpo play. I wish I could have met him as well as his other brothers too

  • I wish baseball play this at the 7 inning stretch!

  • them 4 can go to hell -_- how could u deslike this?

  • This is lovely, try listening to him play Stardust some time it's extra special.

  • I forgot where I was watching this.

  • I believe he would play well today with Bjork. They are both unique, talented, and awesome.

  • great scene. i love the way it seems he's just going to do something silly by playing take me out to the ballgame, and then it ends up being this beautiful piece of music that, judging by his facial appearance and concentration, he takes quite seriously. i can't help but smile and feel the tears well up it my eyes at the same time.

  • @dwdeclare It's rare that, as you have done, we can express what's in our heart with no fear of what "people" might think. After all who are these "people" ? They are us, all of us together and we all feel emotions in the same way for we are all one anyway. The Marx Bros and their peers remind us of the simple clever things that make us human.

    Cheers

  • I wish I was alive when he played so I could go watch him. As a fellow harpist, he must have been revolutionary. My favorite part is when he turned and drug the harp off the stage. :) Must've been a great guy.

  • some i reconize as Take me out to the ball game but most of it i don't , & sorry harpo did'nt like it

  • @EMILGALV, "The Grouchos of the world":)

  • as of me, there as 232 thumbs up and only 4 down BUT I have to ask . . . WHO could possibly not like this?!

  • Hey the underdog, since you havent heard this version, im just wondering what you think of this piece of music as it stands on its own, becuase in my case ive heard hundreds of differnt versions of this song and this is by far my favorite version?:)

  • @simbaerod totally mine as well. if I play it once, I have to play it ten times. when I said "the Grouchoes of the world," I meant we were all blessed!

  • I know this song i've heard it sang and even played only on the guitar but i cant quite make it out on the harp, only small pieces, i guess its fine tho i see some real musicians apreciate it so thumbs up :)

  • wonderful man, beautiful harp player. truly missed.

  • I thought I would watch this and laugh instead I wanna cry from beautifulness. I instantly think of Bjork. I bet she loves this rendition.

  • @voltaman33 You mean Bjork Guomunsdottir? The popular singer?

  • You can really tell he loves playing the harp.

  • que fieras eran esas viejitas jajajaaj

  • When I was just a kid, I actually found it difficult hearing the melody in this version. Now, as an adult musician, this version brings me to tears. That little curly-haired bastid. :` ]

  • This is too Beautiful...He just made Take me out to the Ball Game in such a Classical Fashion....Bravo, dude

  • AWE-some!!!!!!!!

  • So frickin' beautiful!

  • If I operated a Ball park I would play this in the Bottom of the 7th inning

  • Harpo was a genius. Simple as that.

  • Harpo, atthe age of 67 here, showed that he was an icon in entertainment.

  • 1:15 into is my favorite part. this is a great version of this song probably ever.

  • Classic

  • oh man! this is one of my favorite lucy episodes. this song sounds like pure magic. it's hilarious when harpo sees lucy and freaks out.

  • This man made me fall in love with harp music, and this was the episode.

  • He could play huh? The best rendition in my opinion.

  • I saw this for the first time today. This amazed the h*ll out of me!!

  • Pure magic.

  • One wouldn't expect Harpo to be such an accomplished musician.. Yvonne DeCarlo comes to mind too (Lilly Munster)

  • absolutely classic!!!!!!

  • SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!

  • HARPO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great Lucy episode with Harpo Marx. The classic mirror scene Lucy did with Harpo was masterfull! Loved it when Doris Singleton appeared with Lucy in this or any other episode. A great rival (Doris Singleton) as Carolyn Appleby was to the redhead!

  • When normal people improvise on a theme it's jazz. When Harpo does it, it's more like the sound of heaven.

    An amazingly talented arranger.

  • @williamclaudefields Yeah, this was pure heaven. I tried to find other versions and nothing sounds as beautiful as this.

  • @misswings83 I uploaded a nice version that sounds good.

  • Great video I always liked him he was so talented. Thanks for sharing

  • he is really good at

  • I love Harpo and Lucy so when I saw this on TV on christmas eve then got it for christmas I was SOOOOOO happy/ excited

  • One of the great classic moments of television

  • I just love his serious face when he plays the harp.

  • Just an enormous talent.............he has been gone for for over 40 years and yet he will live forever

  • 45 to be exact.

    Happy Holiday.

  • Whoever thought Take Me Out To The Ballgame could sound so beautiful?! I saw this on I Love Lucy last night and was so glad to find it on YouTube so I can listen to it anytime I want!

  • thank God we have this

  • one word to desribie this.excellent.

  • Apparently Harpo actually played with an incorrect technique, and tuned it a different way. But when he sat down with a teacher to learn the proper technique, the teacher heard him play and told him to just keep doing thing the way he did, because he was so good.

  • and he plays a great Harp also.....one of the best of the Marx brothers Grucho was to kinda odd he never made a apearents on show to

  • This is one of my favorite episodes<333

  • Oh, Harpo. You know I'd take *you* out to the ballgame, any day!

  • pure brilliance and excellence. what an amazing guy.

  • comedian, actor, amazing harpist, and US spy. . . Harpo was pretty much a pimp, lol.

  • He is a genius of the Harp and That's Why they call him Harpo

  • His given name is Arthur.

  • I think GROUCHO was Arthur

  • Groucho's name was Julius. Harpo was Arthur.

  • Harpo's name is Adolf, that he later changed to Arthur. Groucho was Julius.

  • And Chico was Leonard.

I think Zeppo was Herbert and Gummo was...Milton?? I know it begins with an M and has 2 syllables...but I'm not sure at the moment

  • Yep, it was Milton. I was just Harpo for a school report

  • genius

  • I had a bad day at work today. Now I have a huge grin on my face!

  • Thank God for television! It gave us that clip!

  • I'm not sure I've heard many people say Thank God for TV, but this is proof that there was a time in our history when really good stuff was on.

  • Love, love, love!!!!!

  • omg. amazing. they don't call him harpo for nothing. :D

  • Back again! Harpo Rocks! Can't get tired of this!

  • Harpo was a true original..there will never be another like him.

  • He was and remains my fav comedian and harp player ever

    ^-^

  • My All Time Favorite Video on Youtube! I can NEVER get tired of this! RIP Harpo!

  • I wish i could say how much harpo and his brothers, there music and comedy mean to me, but i cant, they leave me speechless :)

  • I start crying every time i hear him play. It's just so beautiful..no matter what he plays.

  • this is amazing.

ive never really heard him play anything but this i just gorgeous

  • Beautiful. I never get tired of listening to this. Thanks

  • The only thing that could possibly top the hilarious comedic talent of Harpo Marx is the brilliant masterful way he plays the harp.

  • PURE GENIOUS!!!!

    Harpo Rocks!

  • WONDERFUL

  • Where's Harry Caray at? That song's not the same without him!! lol

  • awsome

  • rest in peace marx brothers you were the best

  • Priceless :) This makes my heart skip a beat every time.

  • It doesn't get better than that.

  • Love it!

  • One of the most beautiful moments on TV.

  • This was the day my sister was born. I wonder if my ma and sis watched this on the hospital television. That would've been a nice entrance.

  • a master at his finest

  • this song is so sweet on a harp i love it i added to my favorites :)

  • Priceless. One of the great moments on TV.

Reverend Jim playing the piano for Elaine on Taxi is another one.

That's about it. I can't think of too many others.

  • Harpo rules. Beautiful version. :)

  • He always seemed so serious when he played, it almost seemed like was a totally different person.

  • He was. He could bring an audience to tears of laughter with his antics then just plain tears with his beautiful harp playing. He taught himself to play & developed his own unorthodox technique. Harp players thereafter would ask him to teach them his method of playing. There'll never be another like Harpo. He was so sweet and gentle. He didn't even speak, let alone use dirty words to get a laugh. I'm just happy we can watch so much of him on YT.

  • Since I'm not the one who is dumb, perhaps I can school you.

    1. Freedom of speech you know, I can say what I want, I don't have to shut up.

    2. Repeating above statement, I'm not dumb.

    3. Be very careful who you call a bitch.

  • I just saw this episode! It's by far the best of the "Hollywood episodes". Most of them are so... blah and predictable. Not this! AMAZING!

  • I use to wait until each summer break as I grew up in school to hopefully see this particular episode. It was always worth it. And now it is on YouTube. Absolutely Amazing..... Thank you for posting this

  • One of the greatest.

  • beautiful. i'm into tears now. gosh i miss harpo!

  • does anyone know why harpo never spoke on the show? i love this episode.

  • @phbr32401 When he and his bros. were first staring out Harpo got few speaking lines. Then durring one skit he had one or 0 lines. So it got to where he just never spoke in the act. Then his whole Harpo charctor never spoke meaning like any shows or flims. In prite he spoke and he wrote an autobiogphy call HARPO SPEAKS, over 600 pages.

  • oh gosh i should cry it reminds me of how beautiful harpo's music is. ohhh, how i love him.

  • that was beautiful. made me want to cry.

  • My father always wanted me to play this song at his funeral. I recently had to do just that. This song will always be special to me, and Harpo did a great job!

  • I love baseball and I love this song.My wife loves Lucy and when I heard this my mouth dropped to the floor.I have heard different versions of this song but this is the best and sweetest I have ever heard, bar none!

  • I saw this on late-night tv a few years ago and was floored. It's beautiful! It induced me to see all the movies and read his autobiography. Now I'm a total Harpo fan. His musicianship is fantastic and he comedy has such heart.

  • Harpo is the perfect kind of guy, makes you laugh, makes beautiful music, and keeps his mouth shut.......

  • OUT OF SIGHT

  • does anyone know what the name of this episode is?

  • I believe its "Lucy meets Harpo"

  • no its justs Harpo marks

  • I find the Answer; "Lucy and Harpo Marx" imbd can back that up.

  • ok youre so smart, who gives harpo the idea to come up to the apartment? and where do the find they find them

  • Ricky and Fred were at the hotels pool side when Harpo comes running in chasing two girls and whistling at them. He mimes to Ricky that he was just at a Women's Benefit. Ricky asked Harpo to go up to the room to surprise Lucy (who is entertianing a friend by dressing up in famous movie stars costumes since her friend is very near sited without her glasses) plus at the end of the show, Ricky and Fred comes into the room dress as Groucho and Chico Marx
