i was arrested for no reason in 2007 by quintana roo state olice who released me for 4000.00 usd and offered to let me watch them beat the 4 police who originally beat me and arrested me for 450 a head. Also, I was thrown out of a cab (so was the driver) at a random chekpoint by men with federal vehicles but masks and no markings (apart from automatic weapons) on my way back from chichen itza to Cancun. They pulled us over. Stated that we were suspects in a crime etc. They took my watch, sun glasses clothes in my luggage and $600 in USD in cash. They then told us to turn around and go back across the border. I reported this once on US soil but it was nothing that could be done.

I was told that in order to file the complaint that I had to proceed to some Mexican website (it was in spanish) and that I had to submit the complaint within 2 weeks because the quintana roo 'elections' were in April... and after the 'elections' there could not be any way to hold the state officials accountable... wtf

i was arrested for no reason in 2007 by quintana roo state olice who released me for 4000.00 usd and offered to let me watch them beat the 4 police who originally beat me and arrested me for 450 a head. Also, I was thrown out of a cab (so was the driver) at a random chekpoint by men with federal vehicles but masks and no markings (apart from automatic weapons) on my way back from chichen itza to Cancun. They searched the cab, my person and the driver and let us go. There is NO LAW in mexico.

@VeritasTruthEmet : I too faced some of the same treatment by mexxican Police Officials. My friend was from Chihuahua. We drove through Juarez all was well until we left the city outskirts. They pulled us over. Stated that we were suspects in a crime etc. They took my watch, sun glasses clothes in my luggage and $600 in USD in cash. They then told us to turn around and go back across the border. I reported this once on US soil but it was nothing that could be done.

I ran away after paying the 'mordida' and fuck did I hide till my flight.... so afraid until takeoff. They went back to my hotel to take me in again, i left most shit behind and when I landed in Canada I kissed the frozen ground outside the airport.
How insane is it to have NO LAWS, NONE, they could have held me for YEARS! I'll NEVER go back!

@hypersupermamado its a pretty traumatic experience. I still have my e-mail from Canadian Foreign Affairs. They contacted the Mexican government to make an official complaint. I was told that in order to file the complaint that I had to proceed to some Mexican website (it was in spanish) and that I had to submit the complaint within 2 weeks because the quintana roo 'elections' were in April... and after the 'elections' there could not be any way to hold the state officials accountable... wtf
