@mostdopezenki Mine squeaked that much cuz I had a good set of tires on. It doesn't squeak much when I have a pretty used set of tires on. I haven't changed out the fluid, but I'll probably do that sometime in the near future.
how is that shit in the rain on the highway? thinking about welding mine on my 96 but im already scured to drive on the highway and idk if i wanna worry about sliding.... is it worth it?
@OJIEIIIKA11 Not yet. It's hard to find a big, secluded parking lot here in Dallas. I've got two GoPros now. We're just working on finding a good place to slide and stay away from any unwanted attention.
@mostdopezenki I'd open it up and inspect it to see if the welds have any cracks in them. Mine had some when I first got it and I had them repaired. It's not annoying at all. It's way more funnier than annoying.
@BruceLeeBadillo i put it in without opening it up just cuz i'm lazy and didn't want to re seal it. it's fine so far and great for drifting. check my vids of some on ramp drifts
ok ive had my s14 for close to a month now and got a good feel for it and all and idk how to go about getting the welded diff. alsoisnot good for daily driving?
@robrobcharles You have to take it to a shop to get it welded. I suggest buying another diff get that one welded and then sell the old one after the swap. It will keep you from not having a car for a while. It might be hard to find a shop that will agree to do it, but just keep looking around. It's not bad at all for daily driving, but your car will slide easier in the rain, and especially in ice/snow. My car is a daily. It's seen rain, heat, snow, and ice. It's all do-able.
@SaturdayWinter They usually go for less than $100. LSD's can cost up to $900, depending on the brand. Sometimes it's easier to have yours welded. I got mine in a trade for a downpipe and had it re-welded to avoid downtime.
@BFLY3 People get their differentials welded as an alternative to buying a 2-way LSD, or buying an LSD off of another car. Like the 300ZX or J30 LSD. Welding a diff will keep both wheels spinning at the same time, all the time, in order to get both tires to grip instead of having one spin faster than the other, like in open diffs. Most people use them now for drifting, but they were first welded for drag racing back in the day.
@BFLY3 The wheels will lock up on their own, you won't really have the option to lock them up or not. With an LSD, both tires lock up when the car is moving forward and backwards, but one wheel will spin slower than the other while you are turning. The welded differential doesn't allow one tire to spin slower during turns, which causes the wheels to "chirp", as they did in the video.
@BruceLeeBadillo got a ? for you if you got the time im lookin at a s13 with the rb20 swap it ha a welded diff how bad would it kill tires just as a dd
@ddsubsbbumpin Hey, sorry for the late reply. The tire wear isn't too bad. I go through about 4 or 6 used tires in a whole year. It depends on the amount of tire tread they have though. Of course, burnouts and other stuff like that will make them last less.
@MrFaze5 Not really. I probably go through 4 used tires in a whole year, depending on the amount of tread they have. It alo depends on how you drive. I daily my car. I do a bit of hard accelerating every now and then and I rarely slide around.
@BruceLeeBadillo Alright, thanks for letting me know. Car sounds awesome by the way. One more thing though, by 4 tires did you mean 2 pairs of rear or all 4?
@MrFaze5 You're welcome, and thank you. =) By four tires, I meant two pairs on the rear wheels. It's worth doing. It's one of the best things I've done to my car so far.
Thnx man for sharing this.. most people dont prefer welded diff, but i plan to weld mine.. Do you have any video showing you cruising some big curves roads?? nice video mate.. :)
@safzuan Thank you! I don't have any videos of it on curved roads yet, but the diff makes no noise and handles like normal when you're moving at a regular speed. By normal I mean that it doesn't jerk the car like it does when you're turning slowly.
@xAgent0 There's no way to undo welds. The only thing I can think of to undo a welded diff, is to change out the spider gears inside the diff, or just get an open diff to save cash and labor.
Hey man, how does it preform in the rain? have you taken it to like any roads with curves? does the rear end feel like it wans to break loose or anything? just wondering, i want to weld it, but i like to go and drive in the mountain passes n stuff and i cant be sliding at every turn in the rain.
@deego92 I have only driven my car on curvy roads under dry conditions. I haven't driven it in a wet curvy road, though. The car performs like normal in the rain. Like any car, a little bit too much gas and it will slide in the rain. What I do recommend with a welded diff is to keep an eye on your rear tire wear. Bald tires and a welded diff will get you sideways pretty easily. Even if you are going straight. Also, be careful with ice.
@colinstein100 Thank you. It's an HKS Hi-Power cat-back exhaust. It was originally for an S13, but I cut it up and welded it to the piping of my previous cat-back.
The tire wear isn't really bad. I went through one pair of tires in a year, and these weren't new tires, either. They had about 60% thread left. The only time you really eat tires is when you are making tight turns or are turning slowly, like in a parking lot. I'm not sure where you can get some Rotas for cheap, but I would try Craigslist.
You're welcome. It's nothing to worry about, really. I do recommend that you don't use new tires in the rear though, because it won't be worth the money if they're going to go to waste. I buy mine used at tire shops, but I make sure that they are in good condition. I live in Dallas, Texas. We have all kinds of turns and streets, and the tires still last a while. Welding your diff, in my opinion, is a great investment.
I was looking for this vid. Nice! could you make a vid in the rain?

@NordicImports I'll try to get a video of the car in the rain. I've been having some difficulties lately.
