What I think people need to keep in mind is that rap for the most part will reflect what rappers have been exposed to. Gangsta rappers, political rappers and those who fall somewhere in between are all products of their exposure. The reason Chuck D's music is different from Dr Dre's is because they both grew up in different enviroments and had different exposures. If you want to change rap then change what people are exposed to growing up.
I luv hip-hop but u do have to take into account that not all rappers have the same way of thinkin as say a KRS one or a nas you do have people like jezzy who talks about thing that are not becoming of black people people in general for that matter if he talks about the ghetto or "hood" that maybe all he knows or a soulja boy the only thing i see this young man doin to givin young people something to dance to but yet everytime u turn around he has killed hip-hop Its just crazy to me u know
KRS one established the best name for conscious HIPHOP ..Edutainment...Talib Kweli,MosDef,Common,Nas,DeadPrez,Lauren Hill,Public Enemy,KRSone,GrandMasterFlash and Melle Mel all have contributed to the growth of real....
alwaysopen - You have no idea what you're talking about. Spend a little more time listening to Dr. West and it will soon be apparent that he calls everyone, regardless of race, brother/sister. My white brother has a signed copy of Dr. West's book 'Race Matters' signed "To my brother... "
The reference to brother and sister is a lot different than what you think. I am not some white guy shielded from society. No, I live in a black neighborhood and have several good friends here. I am token. I see the difference when some of them greet each other as opposed to me. I don't really care, I guess we are friends on different planes. I freak out some family members in the way I can relate to blacks in different areas. I hugged a woman in KC and wowed my cousin.

The Dr is racist.
He would never address a white person as "sister" or "brother" even though he is part white. The same goes for Baisden.
There is too much 500 year old slave hatred locked in his psyche that he cannot let go of. There isn't a white person in America that owns a black slave or been involved with it - that was abolished in the 19th century.
Alwaysopen: slavery is still a huge problem around the world even in the US, believe it or not. And there are still racial prejudices that result in violence and social injustice.
Dr. West isn't giving up this fight for civil rights. There is still much to be done but you have to look for these problems because it has become unfashionable to talk about them still. there still here, still just as bad; I also don't understand what your talking about at all.
This is ignorance. West has referred to white people as "sisters" and "brothers" innumerable times. Just look around on YouTube. Furthermore, what you fail to take into consideration is the economic and social advantages that a five hundred year old head start confers upon those whites who are alive today.
WTF does a 500 year head start mean and when does it apply to the inflation/recession that all Americans face, white or black? Does Caucasian mean "free ride" in your blinded logic? Walk a mile in my shoes, "Brother". You are suggesting today's whitey doesn't face "the struggle" our fellow Americans of other skin shades do because of imaginary "socioeconomic advantages".
To no surprise, all of this strayed far from my original reply.
the black unemployment rate is always atleast 3 times higher than white so even in your suffering can you even imagine the sufferring of the black famillies i c your side can u c my side?
I listened to a speech of Dr. West today in which he referred to "all his white brothers and sisters." There is nothing racist about an empowered black man professing the truth.
You are incorrect about many things, but one thing you are wrong about is the sister/brother thing. One of the kindest things I respect about Dr. West is that he refers to EVERYONE as his sisters and brothers.
Dr. West, is indeed one of the most profound Black intellectuals of our time. Not only because he strives for his own greatness, but because he humbles himself to the masses to which he has sought to enlighten.
When he speaks, its truly from a place of humility and want for social change for all people, and for that alone he will continue to be blessed and bless others.
I have the biggest crush on Michael Baisden!!! yeah i said it....and I met Mr. West and he is the most dynamic person and wears intelligence like a pimp suit!
Micheal always talkin about Race, & Interracial stuff,
because he knows eventaully he wants to date outside his race, lol lol
he's sooooooo slick, lol

It would be good if more conscious rappers were to start their own record lables or get more involved on the business side of things.
