@longdivision87 He didn't compose it, Yellow Magic Orchestra did. 30 years ago. He did a nice job arranging it, though, even if he cheated by using two DS's.
That's a very nice rendition of this C64 classic!. Nice way of linking more than 16 patterns by the way. Of course, that requires some more hardware but that's got to be the price to pay for such a nice tune!
Actually, this is a cover of the original 1979 version of "Rydeen" by YMO (Yellow Magic Orchestra). The later C64 version was an 8-bit cover of "Rydeen".
The DS-10 has "only" a 16-step sequencer so how could he ever play such a long melody on the left NDS and never touch the damn thing in the meanwhile ?
At 0:22 the sound even changes and a new melody is played, and again, no button is touched !
He is using performance mode, which allows you to load up up to 16 patterns of those 16 step sequences you mentioned. Then those 16 patterns can be plotted out on another step sequencer to make up the time of your song. Or you can manually click each pattern and play the song that way
Yeah no problem! I'm really an advocate of the DS-10. I think its awesome and for $30.00 in some cases in the states you can't get a better music instrument (assuming you own a DS)
It is saying only with DS-10 so much why terrible. Perhaps, I do not think reaching at your level yet though I have been playing RYDEEN since Nippon Budoukan of the long tract of years and 1980.
The DS-10 actually has 6 synth. The "drum" channels, if you dig deeper, are just more copies of the MS-10 synths like the first two channels, and have almost all the same capability, including being able to sequence different notes. They have some limitations, but also some benefits. MS-10 -- more powerful than you think at first!
The instruments are quite accurate...It's too bad there isn't an SPC-700 tracker, I'd like to see the Super Nintendo do this song as accurate as the chip allows with no help from the main CPU.

Someone thinks he cheated by using 2 DS's. Some people are very hard to please. This is a very sophisticated piece of work.

@keybern: do you own DS-10? If so, you know that you can program the sequences to be played in a certain order. without touching the nds once...

How did you get more than 2 synth lines in the beginning? One DS was playing a song while the other was loading.

treschlet, Thanks for your explanation. I didn't understand the meening "2 synth lines".
I have original MS-10 synth that is not so powerful, but TRUE analog.

not so special, very simple.
DS -> mixing cable -> Audio I/F(Roland UA-1EX) ->PC
I didn't use effects processors (hardware/software).

Nice work, I'm glad that someone else is trying to use their DS-10 for melodic songs and not just repetitive patterns. Really good tones too.

I'm going to have to try and do some of my own covers on my DS-10 now, cheers!
