  • asian.

  • probably too fast ! But it's amazing anyway ! And she's sooo little ;-) so cuteee !

  • Yes I do and I also understood everything you said :)

  • I appreciate ANYONE with talent - never had the opportunity to play an instrument. This is my favortie piece of music and I appreciate anyone who plays it reasonably well. She is only eleven. Show appreciation for all the effort that went in to getting this far. Thanks for sharing and keep playing!!!

  • The folks who are criticizing this wonderful kid's arm movements aren't aware that she is perfectly executing a relaxation technique to playing piano that was popularized by the famous 20th century piano teacher Claude Mathay and his many thousands of disciples. That technique very effectively enables more expressive and efficient playing by the fingers which are attached to the arms and shoulders. Her interpretation is tad faster than usual but purely enjoyable. I wish all children well.

  • What I hate about little children playing ( I am one also) is that, they just play, but grownups play with some emotion in it. Makes the whole song better, the parents shouldn't have the child play piano professionally like this, they should just have her play and practice,. Make it come a profession when she grows up

  • @MusicLover11325 agree

  • Can you imagine what she'll be like in ten years?

  • They're called "rolled chords" for a reason...this is too fast and muddled :/ Otherwise, very good!

  • the way she move her arms its horrible and it is to fasttt!!! ohMY

  • her arms are creppy

  • Too slow

  • @roosh4 you're too slow

  • She's very talented. It's just a tad too fast for Clair de Lune, in my taste. :)

  • WOW!!!

  • Does anyone else hear the heavy breathing in the room?

    Very beautiful and talented.

  • I am jealous.

  • Very talented young lady!

  • GOSH darn it

  • SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWN!!!!!!!!!!! Other than that, the fact that this was an 11 year old still amazes me.

  • Woo, when you are 18, i marry you.

  • i think the best speed is the one of the orchestra which we can find in ocean's 11.

but in the ochestra, the main instrument which plays the arpegios is the harp, and it is played fast. Here She plays it like she was playing with a harp.

  • 1:20 fail

  • @jau222 i thought about giving you a thumbs up, but then I thought that was mean, so I just gave you a thumbs up anyways :P

  • SHE DOZ FLUID!!!!!

  • cant help it but piano players are 90% theater - like they all have to act like rainman.....

  • @KCRyder u probably dont play the piano, i dont mean to make any theater when i play but i still cant help doing it, its like the piano wants u too

  • @KCRyder No, this affected, 19hundrets arm moving is not her fault, her teacher should have stopped it earlyer in her studies. But, pianists are hard workers - just take the notes of any piece and read when a pianist plays this piece, you will see, that very often they master passages which, as I sometimes think, only a super human can master - no theater - hard work.

  • This really inspires me to play the piano!

  • Holy. Shit.

  • Sure, it might be a tad on the fast side, but give the kid some credit, she plays it really well.

  • I remember when I was your age learning that beautiful piece of art. Thanks for bringing back the memories. :)

  • You have some depth in playing the song. Nonetheless, it's too rushed. The moon is gone before I can savor it!

  • Veeeryyy gooood!!

  • Unlike most other classical pieces, clare de lune is not a good one to 'show off'. it shouldn't be totally rushed like that, no matter WHO is playing it. I appreciate your technical mastery at a young age, but with experience comes expression, and that just isn't there. Sorry, not Clare de Lune. Still good though!

  • @kraftytoo you are so right! The technic is really good, but you need to feel those emotions debussy tried to express through his art, especially Claire de Lune must be played with the heart, not with the fingers.

  • holy shit.

  • Great !!! but it's too too fast ..

  • @tixybabezyoo Yes, it's great, but she is nervous and that's why it's not bad that they play too fast. Do you understand me, because I actually speak no English.

  • Im twelve and I can play Clair de Lune. She has a couple of problems though: She is moving her arms a little too dramaticly. And she was playing a tiny bit too fast. I have been playing for 6 years and yes she is talented, but I can play the same and maybe even a bit more......sorry. But I am impressed! hahahah

  • @elisamay24 Moving your arms dramatically isn't a problem. Nor is playing fast.

    Just saying...

Anyway, I don't like her interpretation that much... takes a lot more musicality to play this piece, to me, than hammering on the keys that fast and almost not trying to bring out the melody.

  • its not a problem toplay it a bit faster but the felling of the song is gone

  • I don't get why anyone would say this is too fast. It's certainly not played too fast, nor is it too fast for her to play. Beautiful interpretation of Debussy's (imo) most beautiful piece. She's the older sister?

  • it is too fast ...

  • too fast

  • Her arm are killing me. But major props, I can't play this song as well as she can. To top it off, she was 11! Slap to the face.

  • I love the way you play and your performance is the MOST BEAUTIFUL!!! Love it.

  • Omg very very very beautiful... Dominique you r playing so well

  • she is pretty good but not THAT good hahah

  • Her arms are freakin' me out too. But the music itself is breathtaking!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I hate those hand gestures. They're ugly and look like flowing worms. But the playing is BEAUTIFUL!

    ;)

  • i am really impressed... you look like you are dancing with your hands..... kind of strange... but i love everything about this video!!!

  • DrFigwood, all the hand gestures are exaggerated and are a distraction from her beautiful playing. there are mistakes, but she's only human. it's really done very well.

  • @PianoTHIS SAME i tottaly agree. I think she wanted to show everyone how good she was so she played WAY TOO dramatically hahahahahhaha!

  • 0:50 Are you playing the piano or practicing belly dance?

  • henrza - haha! it does look like that. i hate how japanese girls play piano with all that flowing bs. i guess it is supposed to look pretty, but it looks awful. just play the damn piece! but her playing is very good. lol

  • Maybe what makes the first part of the song slightly displeasing to the ear is the interesting use of rubato. It's so enormous, that some bars sound something like 6/8. Though it's a common twitch used by many composers, I don't think Debussy would've liked the time to be changed. But nonetheless, she's really good, and I've only done up till the key change. XD

  • omg i wish i could play like that. but it was too fast. it was very good but needs so go a bit slower. ;)

  • magnifiqe

  • It's sooo beautiful but to fast !!!!

  • if theres a musical piece that i would want to play completely before i die this would be it..

  • She is so talented..please just positive comments..those of you who are so negative focus on yourselves.

  • this is waaaaaaaay too fast.

  • actually it is perfect

  • Its not perfect... There are mistakes, its too fast and lacks a degree of musicality. Undoubtedly its very good for her age, but perfect? No.

  • @TeeMagee Some idiot said she's playing it too fast and I said no, it's perfect, but now that I listen her performance is damn perfect, stop being such an a-hole

  • +1 beefk1rky

  • She's only 11 years old! wow!

    XxSarah

  • amazing!!!

  • Like others said, too fast. it's supposed to be a calm night that I'm imagining as I hear this, and the tempo killed that. But beautiful technique regardless.

  • come on shes 11!!

  • Which is why no one is saying that she's playing badly. She has beautiful technique for this piece--admirable in an eleven-year-old [I love Dominique's playing, personally]. But if she's played piano for a while, the constructive criticism will only foster growth for her as a pianist. And with a performance like this, you really can't see anything except a phenomenally bright future for her as a musician.

  • come on you're critisising a child?

  • the way her arms are moving is freaking me out lol.

  • @beefk1rky She's classically trained.

  • timings off alot

and whats up with the weird wavy thing

  • Because when you play piano you're meant to be relaxed that way you're more likely to hit the right notes. Alot of pianists do it.

  • Very elagent :)

  • waaaay too fast in my opinion but nothing against her. im sure thats how she was taught. shes amazing tho, for 11 yrs old

  • timings off. and the waving hands thing is kinda.... O.o....

but hey, im still learning this so great job!!!

  • way to fast

  • timing aint right

  • what would be really awesome is if a monkey with a peanut butter sandwich on its head played this! shes cool

  • wow she is amazing .

but this weird waves with her hand she is doing the whole time is messed .

  • wow she is really good!!!

  • Too fast. This has no feeling, and there need to be proper dynamics. Not everything is an eighth and sixteenth note. I'm learning this myself, and it takes time and precision to master. I understand she's 11. I'm 14. It's not easy.

  • Anyone can play Piano like this especially when their parents have been kicking their asses since birth to do so...

  • More on the asian side, but that's all opinion (I'm Korean, so.....)

    But you're right :o

  • no, for real this song is do damn hard its crazy.

  • Damn an 11 year old can play and i cant. shit ive beed trying to play it and im having trouble

  • sounds lovely, and played well, but it is a tad rigid.

  • She's good but it's idd like she dance the hula XD

  • Yes, she is good

But her hands are wayyy too much

They really look like hula dancer's hands

  • shes really good!

  • i think its to fast, its supposed to be a lit dreamy i think

  • A little more rubato I think...it's a difficult piece musically imo.

  • i love the way she moves her hands. she is a true pianist!!!

  • .. :)

  • the way she plays with the whole hand moving thing gets on my nerves.... but i love how she plays!!!! i can't even do that when i've been playing for like 7 years.

  • the hand movements are just to add to her emotion while she's playing... she really is good. :O

  • shut the fuck up

    look at her age dude

and she's got the emotion to it

the only thing i didn't like was the speed.

    but job well done!

  • yup, my opinion too. Great, too fast in some places, good interpretation in several parts (specially to the end.)

  • It's sooo beautiful !

    She's awesome and great!

really wish I could play like her!

  • wow i feel like a loser now. i'm 16 and i can't even play this piece ten times slower. :(

  • If she can play this fast, then she can play this slow too and make it sound even more amazing.

  • She's playing it like a computer would there's no soul behind it .Too fast aswell

  • this is a little fast for my taste @_@ but played nicely :] so cute

  • @mikelhxc - There is no RIGHT WAY TO PLAY SOMETHING!

    @josiah566 and gunz300 - WE'RE KOREANS! WE'RE FORCED TO PLAY! THINK ABOUT IT! ;D

@davidpolkmusic - Read what said to mikelhxc.

  • i think it's her own expression of the piece

  • mikelhxc you are such a big idiot, just listen to the original melody before talking, that will be better

  • lovely..=)

  • WOW

  • Entirely too rushed.

  • wow

  • its too fast, some of the melody gets lost in speed

  • since when is melody the most important aspect of debussy's music?

  • soooo good love it

  • Great and everything but why lifting hands so much? I was doing this in first grade. Dont get it.. It looks good but somehow unnnatural...

  • not so much unnatural but forced?

  • so good, her arms are like caterpillars :)

  • Really nice =D

I always liked to play piano like you!!!

    Awesome!!!

  • nice hand gestures

  • I think she tried too hard to move the arms all fancy and smooth. Now the focus is on her arm movements -- which I keep thinking it looks like snakes.. haha. Pretty impressive playing but.. way too fast. I love this piece because it calms me down and it's peaceful, but I feel really rushed and not calm at all listening to this... Heh. Just an opinion though.

  • Basically, she puts her arms in the air too much and wayyy too high that it doesn't look natural. It looks forced...

  • same heree. this song is supposed to be relaxed not fast. im playing this piece right now :)

  • wrong

  • I'ts already harder to play it slowly , and she play it at this speed ^^.. very impressive :D

  • Man she was 11 and she could still play that song really really good

Whearas im 16 and i still cant play any instrument.. and i cant type whearas. ugh.

  • let me offer my assistance;

    'whereas'

    :]

  • Oh haha thank you, NOW I KNOW :D

  • Haha!

  • MA QUESTA BAMBINA E' BRAVISSIMA!! COMPLIMENTI!! continua cosi'... il pianoforte e' lo strumento + bello!! qst canzone c'era in twilight e anke in ocean's 11!! =D

  • Really good, but the arm movements are funny! lol

  • LOL yeah! Like jellyfish tentacles!! But this was awesome!

  • ahhh welll played!!! better thn i can rite now lol. but watch dem arm movements, haha makes ur impeccalbe technique look not so amazing... and i here many versions slower... can i ask why you chose to speed it? (it sounds GREAT but im interested in reasons)

  • she is very good and cute :)

  • too fast but shes pretty good

  • She has a really good technique, only very smal mistakes, and a little bit too fast, seriously if this girls learns how to put more emphasis on the right notes, and nows when not to speed up, she could become like incredible. And I do agree, music is about music, don't make weird arm movements for show, I mean classical music is one of the very view things where there is no need for the fakeness, so someone make her stop doing so. Anyway she's got talent!

  • why she moves her arms like that? drives me crazy!!!

  • why is every "musician" i know or see leaving comments an elitist? "too fast, too slow, not good enough, etc." your not beethoven or bach or debussy.

  • that was very fast, but I think that if you work hard enough for more rubato, then you might be really good. And make the top notes sing more and more sparkly! :D

  • WOW! yeah she is really good.

    I couldn't play this piece until I was 14.

And I've been playing paino since I was like 3 or 4.

  • She's amazing!

    It was so great!

    Very well played

  • I think she hasn't quite got the hang of rubato yet.

But really good for an 11 year old.

    I learnt this at 15.

  • Really fast and there is a lot of pausing..

but she did good for a 11 year old

    I couldn't play this piece until I was 15

  • I agree... Really too fast but this girl has an amazing technique :s

  • it's just amazing!

  • the baby ruined it :\

  • She keeps the song very flowy and graceful... I love her hand movements...

  • fast as all hell... wonderful accuracy though. =D

  • UAU! Perfect!! You played this song? If so, congratulations! I also play piano, and I play this partitura. I got this partitura yesterday, but after this show, now really freaked me out! VERY GOOD!

  • enchanting

  • it looks like shes doing ballerina movements with her arms,

but it is actually very nescessary in keeping flow, as thats why ballerina's do it!

its for circulation in your arm to raise up and down to kind of have a stabber of a little bit of energy, as if practicing isnt hard enough, thats the most best aerodynamic arm-piano movement ive ever seen

  • She needs to work on her tempo regulation esspecially at the cresendo sequences. The arm movement is unessisary and she needs to keep her flow not overdone but natural looking.

  • i agree.

the tempo of how she played it totally ruined it for me, espeichaly at the beggining

+ its supoosed to be played with PASSION

i play this piece and am only a couple of years older than this girl (ive just turned 15)

and though she probably technically plays it better than me; i beleive i deliver it with more emotion (which is key to this peice)

but i guess this girl will learn that as she gets older.

as fir the arm movement: i would find it distracting but maybe it helps her

  • I don't think you know what you're talking about at all. Dominique does exellente interpretations and plays very mature. It's quite obvious that you're only 14.

  • Her interpretations are accurate for someone of her age. While she technically plays the piece VERY well, which is an accomplishment regardless of age because it's a difficult piece, her expression isn't all there. Still though...lots of talent and potential.

  • Soothing.

  • Absolutely beautiful! What talent! Even the way her arms flow like liquid is a ballet in and of itself!

  • I can barely breath, this is amazing!!!!

Wow! Claire de Lune is my favorite classical song of all time, and this young lady DID IT JUSTICE, the arm movements are fantastic. prodigey (:

  • I think you mean: DID NOT DO IT JUSTICE

  • dominique is a very talented young lady. i really enjoyed her performance. i hope she comtinues her musical studies. spread your wings and fly, girl!

  • She's amazing, not only is she gorgeous but she plays beautifully. I, personally, think the arm movement is great, it's like she's dancing to the melody.
