@wcbroccoli : Actually, Mr. Why Can´t you eat your Broccoli, it is a fugal toccata. But in classification of forms one can wander. My view is that it is a difficult piece and thus like a toccata.
@MusicPredominates While a toccata might include fugal passages, the defining characterstic of a toccata is its improvisational character. This piece has none of that. It's a fugue from start to end.
It might be a difficult for some to play, but that doesn't make it a "fugal toccata".
If difficulty were the defining characteristic of a toccata, then I suspect many people who've tried to master Bach keyboard works would be inclined to call them toccatas.
@MusicPredominates "Improvised" and "improvisational" are different concepts.
A fugue can be improvised, but that doesn't mean that it has an improvisational character (e.g., sections, rapid runs, extravagant virtuosic displays such are found in, say, toccatas).
This fugue was not improvised. And unlike a toccata, it does not have an improvisational character.

I much admire Bryndorf's playing and registrations, but this seems way too fast to me.
BTW toxiconegro, thanks a million for your channel ! It gives me much pleasure.

@cbreemer Oh thank you too. You're welcome. And yes, Bryndorf has a beautiful tendency to play some Bach works quite at a good pace ;)

@cbreemer This tempo sounds fine to me. Not at all too fast. I've heard this played faster and slower.

3NUNS 1 year ago
@3NUNS It's a fugue.
And after the end of the 2nd verse of the C.F., the fugue subject is inverted.

@wcbroccoli : The defining character is by all means one of improvisation. A fugue can be improvised. You may think that you can think.
