  • gotta ask, are you geordie?

  • @2010blackhawkdown I am indeed, just north east of Newcastle. Steve

  • @MrSheepmaster the weird thing is that i was watching another video that had a geordie in it and i thought he was irish yet i could tell the accent on this one

  • hi mate

i have the spyderco honeybee and i love it but now i want the grasshopper. you said in your vid that it was £12. where did you get it from and would it be available a year on ?

  • @hasangodfather01 Hi there, the Grasshopper isa great little knife, I got mine from Heinnie Haynes I thin, it's currently showing at £13.95 but includes free shipping. Handy Niknaks has it for £11.99 but with £4 delivery it''s $15.99. Also if you type "nutnfancy" into the coupon code on Heinnie Haynes site at checkout you get 7% off. Hope that's of use. Steve

  • Hi there.. great vids! i am in the UK and wondering which one of the "bug" series would be the best for a neck chain knife?

    Which would you reccomend

    Tobias

  • @tbrowniscool Thanks for the comment, I would def go with the Grasshopper, great size and weight and perfectly fuctional. Steve

  • what is a slip-joint

  • @bobiscool308 Hi a slipjoint is a system used to hold a blade open without locking it in the open, could use spring tension or ball detents.

  • why does UK have these fucked up laws about knives? no blade over 3 inches? wtf? NO LOCKING KNIVES?!?! FUCKING IDIOTS!

  • @Lev8300 in one word, hysteria

  • @Lev8300 victorinox climber is legal carry, swiss card is illegal, the knife on a swiss card, blade AND handle is nearly the same size as just the blade on the climber, stupid right

  • Thank god there's getting to be some more choice available. I carried delicas/enduras for years and feel naked without anything. The UK penknife is a ridiculous price for a non-locking blade - I don't see why we should have to pay a premium for 'simpler' knives that aren't so safe.

  • @loki1066 UKPKs are about 40 dollars for the FRN/GIN-1 combo. Quite a steal for iqute a good knife (US made!).

  • @mxrida97 that only works if theres a pocket clip

  • @TheEnglishRedneck45 UKPK definately worth of the hype, steel is CPM S30V, very resilient stays sharp and easy to sharpen. Plus if it's your first 1 hand opener it's hard to go back to a Victorinox after that :P

  • You do still need to justify why you are carrying it man, no matter what length of blade or lock it is. This is due to the police's right to remove any item they deem to be an offensive weapon, eg screwdrivers, chizels etc, and especially knives. The law is merely that those above 3 inches and locking are illegal, this does not mean that knives that arent locking and sub 3 inches are unquestionably legal for public carry. Unfortunately.

  • @TheEnglishRedneck45 actually that is not correct. The law states that you do not need a reason to carry a sub 3" non locking folder. This means that if you have a reason you may carry something which locks, exceeds 3 inches or is in fact a fixed blade. For example, while camping or hunting you have good reason to carry a 4 inch fixed blade for bushcraft or game dressing making it legal to do so but still at the police officers' discretion.

  • @lexacor Please read into the legislation further lexacor - as I noted before, when classified as a KNIFE, it is totally legal to carry a sub 3inch non locking blade in public, without due cause. However, if they were to search you, they could classify it as an OFFENSIVE WEAPON, falling under totally different laws, with regards due cause for public posession. You are right however, that you can pretty much carry anything, if you have due cause for doing so - camping, work, selling etc.

  • @TheEnglishRedneck45 Again it would depend on the situation, if a police officer stopped you at random to search random people and found a legal knife on you they wouldn't arrest you as at that point you are not doing anything suspicious or illegal. However, if you are being searched after committing an offence then yes you are correct it would indeed be deemed an offensive weapon. If a police officer saw you using a legal knife responsibly for a legal task, again, they wouldn't care.

  • @TheEnglishRedneck45 To add more to that, it would also depend what you were being stopped for. So, you get pulled over for speeding and you have a legal swiss army knife sat in a little hole on your dashboard. They aren't interested. If you get arrested due to getting into a drunken fight at a pub and you have it on you it would immediately be deemed an offensive weapon due to the violent circumstance of the crime regardless of if the knife is involved.

  • @TheEnglishRedneck45 Sorry about the multiple comments, but continuing on. Basically, any normal person carrying a legal knife that acts politely to a police officer isn't likely to get arrested. It's all based on police discretion. In other words. Do they think you are a threat. If you are an average citizen on the way to work, or out walking the dogs and you get stopped and they ask you to empty your pockets you aren't gonna get arrested (especially if you are polite), A drunk chav however....

  • @TheEnglishRedneck45 A drunk chav mouthing off at the police officer would be arrested on the spot. I've been stopped at random a few times and a couple of officers have in fact asked where they could get the knife i was carrying because they liked it so much (foliage green UKPK). So depends on situation and why you're talking to them in the first place. Sorry this took so long to explain :)

  • @lexacor Exactly - the circumstances are crucial. As you say, if you are stopped and searched at random, like at stations etc, they're unlikely to deem it as an offensive weapon. But, if they're searching you for assaulting someone/stealing stuff, then exactly - they'll most probably use their discretion against you, deeming it a weapon rather than a tool. It's all so up in the air though isn't it - which has both its pluses, and minuses. I want a UKPK - worthy of its hype? Which steel?

  • i don't live in the UK, but im just wondering what defines a legal carry knife?

  • @zhagray The law is that a blade must be under 3" in length, and it must not be lockable (i.e. slip joints only).

  • @MrSheepmaster If I travel trough the UK all my non lockable Victorinox would be "fines-free" then?

  • @newhuskytwenty Ye I think that all Victorinox non lockables will be just fine. Steve

  • +1 this video totally bought me, just ordered mine.

  • been eyeing this up on Heinnie. for a week....saving my pennies now!! Thanks for the review!

  • @bassfuryvi i had problems buying off heinnie on this exact knife

  • +1 to the Spyderco Grasshopper, I got mine today and I'm impressed! I too have the Bug and it's much much sharper and way more usable, so much that it has replaced my Bug on my EDC Keychain. In the UK there are very few affordable legal carry options that don't look like pen knives. The choices are between Boker, Spyderco, Byrd, CRKT and maybe a few more.

If you need a SUPER affordable TOP QUALITY large keychain knife, this is the only option you have (maybe the honeybee). Where did you get it?

  • @mullensk8ter15 It is a great blade, I use for UK carry the two spyderco knives and my Victorianox Soldier. Stupid uk law! I got the grasshoper from handyniknaks I also heinnie haynes, I have just ordered the spyderco UKPK from there.

  • @MrSheepmaster Ah, yes I got my Grasshopper from HN too and my Bug from HH. The UKPK is awesome, shame it's so expensive!
