  • Just finished building this pedal, it sounds GREAT! It does sound different than a TS9 (simply because it has 2 IC-s). I have the vintage original TS in my Ibanez UE300 and the sound is a little dull, compared to the ST9

  • cool, looks like the pedal has been through a few gigs in its time

  • is this a good pedal to boost a distorted marshall plexi into a solo?

  • yeah people ask that all the time eh. The tube screamer "are for tube amps only"! Read the title of the pedal, "TUBE SCREAMER"! If it was for other types of amps it would be called: "TRANSISTER SCREAMER"! Go figure. Funny thing is, a tube screamer sounds like shit through a solid state amp, dont quote me on that, but quite fizzy and fake in a cheap amp. Yet, only the real good quality TS808 or TS9 pedals are open and pure sounding, cheaper imitations actually sound good in cheap amps. ;-)

  • @nznaturopath My tube screamer works great through my late 1960's solid state Vox Cambridge Reverb. Its really no different than a lot of the solid state amps that have a built in boost/overdrive channel these days.

  • Hi

I have one of those vintage ST-9 and I need to sell it. Anybody is interested?

  • @frusciante1985 I have mine for sale on ebay, item code 230557566502

    Thanks for your interest.

  • @frusciante1985 can you ship to peru?xD

  • @dnnysrock Por supuesto, ningún problema!

    Te mandé un mensaje privado.

    Saludos!

  • sounds great with EMG707 pickups with a high gain through MIMX150H head

    ibanez = quality

  • wow nice sound! nice Clean

  • besides the mid control, is this pedal identical to the ts808? or is it better/worse? thanks

  • waw

  • is there any point to using a ts in front of a tube amp?

i thought they were made to play in front of solid states to give them a tube-ish tone

  • If you are using a good sounding tube amp, these pedals are transparent enough to retail your tone but give more drive. G

  • @rageohol1 The whole point of the tube screamer was to boost tube amps.

  • Would a Maxon St9 have the same sound?

thanks for all your reviews.. I like this channel.. ,-)

  • Should be very close. G

  • Thanks for feedback.

Did you ever try the ibanez ts808 reissue and would it compare to a more vintage one?

  • They are pretty much identical. G

  • Thanks G. ,-)

  • @smartti1970 i think i has more gain plent of more gain

  • for my money a TS-9 is better (if and when i need a mid boost an EQ pedal works great and its more than just mids and can be kicked in and out)

  • lol - not that great a pedal. I had one for a while.

Got it for $40 and someone on ebay paid $600 for it.

There is one born every minute.

Better tone/overdrive with a good 2-3 channel tube amp and no pedals.

  • @Ellinarkkari

they cost 600 in some vintage shops!! will you pay that?

  • They were discontinued years ago. You would need to try Ebay. G

  • Is TS9 good for boosting guitar signal before going to the amplifier??

    =O

  • Sure is!

  • wow, thank you =)

  • Is the ST9 good for the guns n roses slash kinds of stuff?

  • No. Tube Screamer cranks out warm bluesy crunch. If you want Slash, buy a JCM800.

  • Just get a Gibson Les Paul(vintage is the best) and A Jcm800 2204!

  • Sweet tone chap!!!

  • Do you think about putting your old band's music on youtube are online for people who are intrested?? It would be nice.x)

  • Maybe one day...

  • yeh but what is it man? a reissue or an original?

  • It's a mid 90's two channel 'Evil Twin'. G

  • very nice demo man

    love it

    what model amp are these?

  • I played through a Fender Twin Amp. G

  • fuck me side ways! I've looking for a second 4558 type pedal to add to my board, and this is it to bad this is no longer made.

  • Go on Ebay. I have a MAXON ST-01 for sale. It is the same as this ST-9 but mine was made for the Japanese market only and is rarer than them all because of this. It was only made for about 1-2 years and only for Japan like I said. It has dual JRC4558D op-amps and it sounds sweet. Search ST-01

  • good Job Graemey. great info!.

  • Thanks! G

  • sounds good, do you know what the approx. range of the mid boost is?

  • Sorry, I don't. It's quite subtle though. G

  • Hey great pedal I like how you can get a nice harsh tone out of it and then crank the mid and get that really warm distortion. Sounds unlike a lot of digital pedals I've used. I was wondering what that song at the beginning of your demonstration was?

  • It's my old band from the early 90's Candleman Summer. The song is called Brilliant. G

  • Awsome demo! I like this one,but my TS-808 still is King!!!

  • Play some chords so I can hear what this thing is really about. Thanks

  • what's the difference between overdrive and distortion? does your clean guitar sound come through better through overdrive? that's what it sounds like anyways.

  • That's about right. Dist has more gain and sustain.

  • Different clipping patterns.

  • It's an overdrive pedal.

  • LOVE this pedal!!!

  • I have this exact pedal, in good condition and dont use it much.

Does anyone know if it is worth much, and if so how much??

    Thanks

  • I'll give you a tenner for it

  • if you want singing, almost endless sustain you have to boost your supertube, for that purpose i use a bb preamp, others might work to

  • good demo, would a Tube screamer improve sustain? i just got a marshall stack and im disappointed cos you play a note and it just dies, esp with bends

  • Yes, try it out with your Marshall.

  • Nice job you did. Info : ts have one chip, the super tube have 2 and sound much better than any ts.Maxon st-01 have the same circuit.Ibanez stl is very nice to and got a varmer but darker sound-both are great on my crate v3112tt, it really sings. Avoid the ta chip, its very harsh

  • Help please, I was lookin at this band bleeding through, and the guitarist said he uses a tube screamer to make his guitar sound more pissed off, n heavy

, but I looked in the net n there are like many different tube screamers, I dont know which one that will make my guitar sound angry and more heavier, my amp has distortion n is abit heavy but I want it to be overly heavy , I cant see this youtube vid, coz my comp is slow, is it REALLY HEAVY? recomondation of a heavy pedal?plz

  • No, it's not that distorted. You should check a Boss Metal Zone. G

  • who plays the song in the begining?

  • It's my old band from the 90's called Candleman Summer.

  • So, what's a tube screamer pedal? Thanks

  • The Ibanez Tubescreamer is a very famous overdrive pedal used by many players. This one is a Super Tubescreamer which has the additional mid-boost control.

  • and very good guitar playing as well :-)

  • nice pedal & a lovely geordie accent!

  • How kind, thanks!

  • hey... which pedal is better? maxon od-808 or ibanez tube screamer?

  • Sorry I've never tried the Maxon. I think it's the same circuit as a TS808 though.

  • It sounded WAY better that I expected!

  • how much do most pedals cost??? Plz answer

    Ian

  • Anything from a few quid to thousands!

This is a rare one and would cost a few hundred but a re-issue Tubescreamer will cost quite a lot less.

  • Is there any pedal out there that sounds like this one?!

  • the turbo tube screamer is about the same thing but if you want it to sound like this one, you'll have to put the jrc4558 chip in it. or the rc4558, both are good.

  • Anyone know the difference between this st9 and the Maxon st9?

  • SHIT, man!

    That ST9 sounds awesome!

Too bad is discontinued... new ibanez tube screamers suck big time!

There's no sound compared to the ST-9

  • i have this pedal and luv it, if u have a strat, this pedal sounds beautiful on neck pick up.

  • I have both the Boss MT-2 Metal Zone and the EHX Metal Muff. I think the Metal Muff tone sounds much better through a pushed amp, thus at high volumes. It's much less noisy as well. The MT-2, however, sounds great at bedroom/recording volumes, though it's noisy at 100W. I use it for my practice/recording.

  • Que feo arete!

  • is this better than big muff pi?

  • The Big Muff is a fuzz effect. This is an tube-like overdrive.

  • ohh i see. ok man. :)

  • big muff is fucking sweeeet.

if u like that over distorted fuzzy sound i recommend it =]

  • whats a good pedal for metal and hardcore? i hate boss pedals can someone help me

  • ehx metal muff

  • beautiful tone

  • Do you mean at the start of pedal demo or the music that opens the video?

  • Sounds great! Sounds a lot like Brian May's tone.

  • i just bought the original tubescreamer and im debating returning it... simply because i dont have a tube amp and i think it would be sooo much better i just have the voxdc30 and it just has that preamp tube. well whatever

  • nice tone, are you playing through a lespaul?

  • No, its an Epiphone Riviera with Duncan Jeff Beck PAFs fitted.

  • great sound! guess i'll buy a tubescreamer

what amp do you use in this video?

  • Hi! It's a Fender Twin.

  • Fab, thank you!

    C x

  • this pedal sounds great. More Queen-ish tones with the midboost.

  • I'm kind of a noob with guitar equipment, so can somebody help me out?

With the two plugins (in and out), would you hook it up

guitar amp -> pedal -> guitar

    or

preamp in -> pedal -> preamp out??

  • The pre-amp sockets on an amp are not for pluging effects into. If your amp has an effects loop you could use that, otherwise it's guitar output into pedal input- pedal output into amp input. G

  • I never even knew this existed. That's really cool. A mid control. That's exactly what every ts9 or 808 should have. Even sounds less muddy than the reissues. Thanks for posting this.

  • so is the TS9DX Turbo tube screamer pretty much the same thing?

  • No, the Turbo has more gain. This is a TS9 with a mid boost, nothing more.

  • supah tube screamer!

    lol!

  • no...

  • That's a bloody good sound. The bit around the 4:37- 5:03 mark was fantastic. Very Hendrixy. What kind of guitar were you using?

  • Hi, it's a Epiphone Riviera with Duncan 'Jeff Beck' humbuckers fitted. Check my other videos for Hendrix related stuff (Fuzz Face, Voodoo Vibe, Wah etc) Cheers!

  • i heard stray cat strut lol

  • I#t sounds like my ibanez valbee boost channel

  • I look for a pedal that makes the same sound as the Two Rock amps, or like the sounds of John Mayer solos...if anybody knows, let me know!!

  • What does this pedal with the drive cranked to maximum sound like ? And how does it compare to Tube Screamer Turbo ?

  • Hi, the drive is up max for a large section of this demo. A Turbo has a little more gain. Hope this helps.

  • Thanks for the reply. Which one has the creamier and softer sound ?

  • Dunno? Ive never compared this one to a Turbo. Any Tubescreamer through a good amp will be pretty smooth though.

  • And how about this pedal v.s. 808 and TS9 ?

  • It has more gain. Check my other videos to hear a TS808.

  • sorry but the best pedal int he world is a boss mt-2 metal zone

  • lol and im john petrucci

  • Ive got a Metal Zone and I love it! More bass than any other pedal on the planet.

  • I love the way the mid boost knob added "bite" to the tone, wish i had a pedal like that.. THanks for the video sir! :D

  • Sweet tones!

  • hey man, thanks for the video, serious. Im thinking about buying it and now, after the video, seem like iv just tested it!

  • Glad to help!

  • You cant buy these anywhere!!

    oh man

  • You look like the singer from queens of the stone age when i first saw you. good demo

    Peace

  • Haha! Thanks!

  • creeeeeeemey smooth!
