  • thanks for posting this!

    Rydhsys rag Kernow lemmyn!

  • Cernyw am byth, I spent a week on holiday in Cernyw, i felt at home there, I'd love to come back one day :)

  • This could die out if people don't watch especially immigration coupled with outmigration of young uns. Cymru stands by you!

  • Actually morris dancing is practised all over Britain and is thriving. No need to mention immigration.

  • Although I have seen Morris men dancing in Edinburgh, it is not certainly not true to say that it is "practised all over Britain." I suspect that the "This" referred to applies to the Gorseth as a whole rather than the dancing.

  • It is certainly pracrtised widely throughout the westcountry.

  • jamgibsonjamgibson : So 'morris dancing is not practised all over Britain' would be more correct? (Morris Dancing is not really my cup of tea but interesting nevertheless e.g even MorrisDancing dot org doubts that it is earlier than 15th Century (although 'The Horn Dance' at Abbots Bromley Staffs. dates from 1226 at least)

  • Actually, morris dancing is practised widely throughout the UK, particularly in the westcountry. This occasion would be a sour faced parody without it. Check youtube for the avaialbilty of vids from all over the place with morris dancers in, then compare to the amount of pseudo celtic rituals. Oh and stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

  • You haven't convinced me. Their absence would not turn the Gorseth into a 'sour faced parody' at all. The existence of morris dancers in cities and towns with no great tradition of morris dancing (in the same way as Scottish Country Dance Societies) in no way alters the fact that there continues to be a recognisable and genuine celtic folk tradition in Scotland Ireland and Wales , Britany and Galicia/Asturia and the Isle of Man.

  • Come on. I can smell the old people from here.

  • wealas

  • oh offensive now. The saxons seem to be the only ppl to call the previous inhabitants in an area. Twisted logic ;)

  • Its the Cornish national motto
