hpbfantoo, that club in the northgate lot was the "other place" ltr to be the "angora ballroom' woke up in that parking lot the morn after many a time! remember "sink or swim"? 5$ entry and drink free all night! i was raised in sulpher springs just down the street from henry paul, knew all the bartenders, would drink myself silly! saw the outlaws there, leon russle, hundreds of great acts! skippers smokehouse is still jammin, bringing in LOTS of indie acts, blues, reggae you name it!
Great posts -- the HPB videos and the all the comments - good to hear from others who remember as well. I grew up in Tampa and saw the HPB many times in various clubs and venues around the area - always great! I remember a really great HPB performance at a club next to Northgate shopping center on Florida Ave - can't remember the name now. I also remember seeing the Jim Fish Band a number of times at a small pub on N. Dale Mabry we used to frequent after work.
First time I heard this was in the car on the way home from Chicago. My dad was playing his music, and this came on. I was like, WTF is that? Ever since I first heard it, i've been basking in the glory of this song. This song deserves more credit than it has. RIP Ronnie (Rock in Peace)~Legofreak94
I used to go see these guys in Orlando in the 80's. One of the best Southern Rock Bands in history. I've seen most of the best and these guys were right up there. I first saw Dave Fiester in Tight Shoes playing in a small bar in Longwood Florida. Hard to believe all the Florida bands that have lost great members. Danny Joe Brown, Ronnie Van Zant, Dave Fiester, and now Hughie Thomasson.
@SACarrow I was at the same show. This song gives me goosebumps when I hear it. Saw it for the first time when I saw HPB open for Rossington Collins Band in Roanoke Va in the early 1980's.
Grey Ghost is my favorite Southern anthem. I saw the song performed live 3 times, the band and the crowd were exhausted by the song's end. Whoever is posting these HPB videos keep them coming.
OH DANG THIS IS HOT. never heard it before.
